ATTENTION SPN CON-GOERS

((I’m hoping as many people will see this post as possible because I feel that it’s very important.))

As I think a lot of you are aware of, for the last few years, conventions have been a place where people have felt the need to tell the actors of Supernatural (particularly Jared, Jensen and Misha) their personal stories of mental illness, suicide attempts/survival, and everything that comes along with those subjects. There have been multiple posts that I know of here on Tumblr and on other social media outlets begging people to stop treating the boys as therapists because it’s obviously a very hard subject to listen to in an environment where they are unprepared and put on the spot.

We know that the boys handle these encounters with fans graciously and kindly and that they do their best, but we also know that hearing these stories from fans have had negative effects on them. We know that Jared has, multiple times, had to excuse himself from autograph sessions to gather himself. In a fan convention setting, putting this kind of emotionally heavy subject matter on the boys isn’t right- as so many have said.

And now I’m telling you that if people don’t stop doing this to them, the boys will stop doing conventions altogether.

I’ve been in touch with the head of Creation Entertainment and though I can’t share the emails with anyone because of confidentiality reasons, I will tell you that he said himself that the actors have stated that if they continue to be treated as therapists without any control by Creation’s staff that they will no longer do conventions.

Because of this, Creation is going to be implementing rules that ruin the experience of photo ops and autographs for everyone in line who just wants the chance to say “hello” to the boys. By ignoring Creation Entertainment’s request (on their website and at the conventions) to not treat the boys as therapists and laddle heavy stories on them during a time that should be enjoyable for them, we as a fandom have potentially ruined conventions for them altogether.

If we want to keep the boys happy and healthy and enjoying the conventions like we all do, then we have to stop treating them like our personal counselors. It’s unfair to them, and to the other people in line, and it’s obviously taken enough of a toll on them for them to say something to the heads of the convention.

Please stop. There are other people and other ways to talk about your problems that are completely healthy and in environments that are safe.

Words from the journal of the mentally faulty

I found this in a notebook I had my first semester of college, when I wrote these words it didn't help me then but it helps me now. So I thought I’d pass it on in case someone else needed them.

Taking a mental health day is OK, but don’t waste it.

It’s OK to not be OK sometimes.

Don’t stress about things all day, it defeats the purpose.

Take care of yourself.

Don’t just lay in bed all day, this will make you feel lazy and unproductive.

When your not doing well, take a small steps, big decisions usually turn sour.

Breathe and get your shoulders out of your ears.

Getting dressed is a great start.

Take it minute by minute if you have to.

Accomplish small goals like writing a list, or washing your car.

Remember that life is always changing, the way your feeling will also change.

If you think something will help do it, if it doesn't, stop and do something else.

The sun is your friend.

Don’t drown in unnecessary emotion.

You are more than what they think of you.

The only validation you need is the validation you give yourself.

You have to make it through today so you can have a chance of a better tomorrow.

Story Time

Okay so back in 2011 when I graduated I went to an after party with one of my friends. We showed up and a guy I had known since middle school was there already shitfaced drunk. Now I knew this kid but never talked to him that much, we really didnt hang out. Anyway we happen to walk in on a drunken rant he had been having about girls and relationships. In the middle of it he pointed out me and my friend and was like “girls like (Insert my name) and (Insert my friends name) you deserve so much more than what your getting, your beautiful, and your kind, and it makes me so upset that there arent guys out there to treat you like you should be treated.” Now I cannot convey the passion he used saying this sentence. Among some other choice things he said. 

In high school I was in a horrible relationship and I’ve never had the best self confidence, but here Iam almost five years later and I remember that moment like it was yesterday. Almost five years later and I still tear up that someone thought that of me. It goes to show you what your kindness can do for someone. It also goes shows you to appreciate people and get to know them. Why am I making that point you ask? Well that guy was the guy that deserved to get the girl, not the 21 year old badass type that my fellow females and I were chasing. That kind liquid courage drinking, guy, that bothered to notice how beautiful and amazing we were. 

If I were thinking clearly when I was 17, I would have given him what he deserved. However I walked away, right back into the arms of what would later be a disaster and you know what? I saw him today, and he grew into one of the most desireable men I’ve seen come out of my high school. We’re older now, have different lives. I’m in a relationship now but I hope one day he somehow sees this and realizes it’s about him. That he is the kind of beautiful soul we need in the world. Here’s to you.
