Gnome code is both colourcoded and also almost illegible to human eyes thanks to this. Their games are a bit like Goblins in that part of the fun is finding the broken strategies. The difference is that breaking the game is part of the fun, rather than something that starts off broken. Big fan of combination games. Expect 100 DLC's that wildly change the base game until it's unrecognisable from the base product.

Elf video games: 300 hour jrpgs with legions of characters and several novels worth of text. Labrynthine upgrade trees and customization options. The most insufferably unintuitive UI possible. A single turn based battle can take hours. Every character has an ennui stat.

Dwarf video games: Basebuilding strategy FPSs that has a whole wiki page on the flexile vs tensile strengths of different building materials. Dwarven rhythm games have minigames where you have to manage supply lines. Mortals cannot comprehend dwarven grand strategy games.

Halfling video games: What appears on the surface to be a viscerally calming farming sim is actually an extraordinarily complex social combat game about cutthroat HOA politics.

Goblin video games: Wildly unbalanced collectathon gatchas where half the fun is finding new hilariously broken strategies. Zany uberviolent team shooters about bugs. MOBAs so bad it's almost art.

Orc video games: Addictive in-browser flash games with names like "Beast Crush 4" and "Borag Meat Game." The art is always kinda bad but in a charming way. The music always slaps.

WIP Wednesday

Handful of sentences of the Project I currently have open. Usually from the scene that I’m working on at the moment. 

It did mean though, that Renarin had to puzzle through Kaladi’s handwriting by himself now. She wrote in the flowing lines of women’s script. A script that Renarin had only a few months of practice in. Kaladi as well, didn’t bother to [simplify her writing]. At first, Renarin had thought that Kaladi was like Jasnah, and when writing personal notes, used a script that cut out any letter that she deemed unnecessary to the word as a whole. It had been complicated to learn after Navani’s careful notes on spelling, but Renarin already mouthed half the words out loud so Jasnah’s notes still made phonological sense. After a week of being Bridge Four’s scribe, Renarin had begun to suspect that Kaladi’s handwriting wasn’t complicated like Jasnah’s at all. It was just terrible.

She frequently transposed letters, or got the heights wrong. So a T turned into a D, and K and G were virtually indistinguishable. Not to mention that spelling was something that Kaladi only had a passing familiarity with. It was worse when Kaladi was busy. She was always busy when writing the Bridge Four reports. Her hand writing had a tendency to slant to one side as well. Then Kaladi would reach the end of the line, realise it was slanted and try to correct with the next. In practice this just made the two lines collide in the middle.

Hi. My name’s Elend. I write things. I’m also disgustingly shy. 

At the moment I’m bouncing between a lot of projects including writing an actual Novel(tm). Plus dealing with RSI which severely impacts my writing ability, and just generally being a terrible person who procrastinates far, far too much. 

Stories I’m bouncing around: A couple of Bright Sessions, A handful of Stormlight Archive, and a Shinsou-centric BNHA thing. 

The goal is to get them finished before publishing anything. Since I liked that better in the long run. But also. Oh man writing things takes TIME. It takes so much TIME.

How do you feel about RL hockey players being mentioned/appearing in Check, Please! fic? Are you okay with it, or is it something you’d prefer to avoid?

I would be okay with it, but I know absolutely nothing about Real Hockey so it would be a bit like well-developed OC’s from my end of it
