BANG the Skillet is in the Play-Offs for the Peter Tetteroo Bokaal. On wednesday may 29 in Theater de Veste in Delft we will fight for a place in the finales on Westerpop. Please join on may 29 in Theater de Veste because people in the audience do the verdict.

We promise we will give an unforgettable show, with some fresh new tracks by BTS!

Ok, we did an awsome tour in the UK. We had some nice gigs back home. Now it's time to get some new songs in. Listen to this, it's a beautiful song written by Laurel Aitken. The recording is phone-quality from the rehearsal room. But listen to the backing vocals ...

UK Tour 'Do the Dishes'

Our UK-tour has just ended. Six venues in eight days. From Bristol's Plantation to Cardiff's Full Moon (they had their first anniversary). Then Bath (The Bell Inn), Bristol twice (The Canteen and The Golden Lion) and finally Camden's Fiddlers Elbow. We had a ball with every gig. The Plantation had an instant dancing crowd; loved it! The other venues were a bit more like: 'We'll see what deez Dutchies are about...' But once they got started, there was just no end to it. Man, the energy; great!!! Hope to be back next year, maybe in the North?!

Two open air gigs this weekend. The one in the picture is on Sunday; Skatejam in Delft. Skaters, break dancers, jugglers and us. People dug the skankin' grooves, band members were showing off in the new t-shirts - bass player Dominique even wore his in Mama Franko, the band he played in right after Bang the Skillet!

The beat goes on: we found a new bassplayer !

When Don decided to quit BANG the Skillet we spread the news everywhere and requested bassplayers to contact us. We were surprised by the amount of people that applied for an audition. Within a few days we had 8 people willing to give it a try. And there were some very good bassplayers amongst them. Unfortunately we had to take a holiday break, frustrating the process of finding a new grooving skanking bassplayer. In august we got even new people coming in, and some early appliers removed themselves from the list.

The auditions were ranging from hilarious to breathtaking. We ended up with three very good candidates good enough to join BTS. A second round brought us to the notion that we want to invest in a young talented and promising bassplayer. So we are very proud to announce that Divera Jansen is willing to join BANG the Skillet’s rythm section. She is a multi-instrument talent, 20 years young, living in the Hague. After our UK-tour she will be on stage with us to spread the SKA, because SKA is the Limit! And some people already call her Deborah Skillet.

A rainy ska night in Delft

Met een flinke klap schoot het zeil van de partytent weer los dat de medewerkers van biercafé Doerak zojuist zo zorgvuldig hadden vastgezet. Van 25 augustus zou je toch een mooie zomerdag verwachten. In plaats daarvan: rukwinden, stortbuien en heel af en toe een straaltje zon. De stalen boot waarop we gaan spelen gaat een beetje heen en weer. Af en toe valt er een koffer of wankelt een box.  Uiteindelijk staat alles, verzekerd met gaffertape, vast en kunnen we van start. Een toepasselijke smeekbede aan het handjevol mensen onder de overkapping bij het café als soundcheck: 'Don't go' van the Dualers.  Het geluid is goed, de windkappen op de microfoons werken prima. Klein nadeel is dat het zanggeluid op de monitors hierdoor wat minder gedefinieerd wordt.  Ook de belichting valt een beetje tegen, een lampje voor een negenkoppige band is wat schraal. Geen foto's dus. Ik was wel benieuwd of er nog wat mensen zouden komen, niet alleen gezien het weer, maar ook vanwege 'concurrentie' van Westerpop en Blikopener die gelijktijdig met ons optreden plaatsvonden. Dat valt alleszins mee. We hebben een aantal zeer trouwe fans (dank!!) en er lopen gelukkig nog wat toeristen rond die aangenaam verrast zijn door onze zonnige klanken. Sterker nog, bij de tweede set is het weer een echt feestje, met dansende mensen op straat. Het is gelukkig ook droog, dat scheelt.

Don Skillet leaving BTS

Don, our most appreciated bass player with the very handsome looks, has decided to quit BTS. He has been walking around with a very difficult frown for some time. We saw something serious was coming up. He plays in two successful bands: BTS and Harmony Glenn. Too often he misses gigs with one band because of the other one. Although it was hard for him to choose, he decided to fully concentrate on Harmony Glenn. We will miss him as a bass player and more even as a very good friend. But he promised to help us out and he will not leave until there is a new Don in the band. 

And we will continue to be friends!

Radio West

Radio fähig

Radio is leuk, vooral de radio bij on in de buurt; Radio West. We waren te gast bij Debby (Roukens) en haar mannen, een betrekkelijk nieuw programma bij deze omroep. Debby heeft al een behoorlijk verleden bij diverse media, de mannen zijn Haagse schrijvers, acteurs, feestbeesten. In ons geval was Fred Zuiderwijk haar sidekick; tegen de 70, grote kale kop, rete-energiek. We hadden afgesproken met regisseur Nitha Dijkstra om twee nummers te spelen; een cover en een eigen nummer. Uiteindelijk werden het er drie, één extra voor een programma dat 's middags zou worden uitgezonden. 'Skarface', 'Don't go' (Dualers) en het titelnummer van onze cd 'Do the dishes' deden het goed. De sfeer was zelfs zo goed dat Nitha ons voorstelde ergens in september weer te komen, en nu met de hele band. Om uiteenlopende redenen speelden Dominique en Marcel niet mee. Jullie hebben wat gemist, jongens.

Do the dishes in café Verderop

Vrijdag 15 juni presenteerden we onze eersteling officieel. De door crowdfunding gefinancierde cd met eigen composities werd door drummer Ben - als huisman aan de afwas - overhandigt aan Skinny Skaman (Joep Soelman); dj en sinds jaar en dag supporter van onze muziek. Compleet met confettibom of -granaat, kreeg Joep de cd aangereikt. Daarna moesten we even laten horen aan degenen die 'm nog niet kenden, wat de inhoud van de cd is. Integraal én in de juiste volgorde. Even was er een moment van mixed emotions toen we afscheid namen van Maureen; backing vocals in barre tijden, met Rosa in Spanje. 'Zou ze ons voorgoed verlaten hebben?' Nee, ze kwam terug en Maureen gaat zich weer wijden aan haar eigen carriere die zich meer richt op 'the front' dan op 'the back'. Bedankt Maureen en wellicht zien we je nog eens terug als een van de dames verhinderd is.

Tot slot was 't tijd voor een feestje. In BangtheSkillet-stijl. Met dank aan de mensen van café Verderop en onze trouwe fans. Keep Skanking...

Finally...

Will and I picked up the cd this morning in Breda. Of course we couldn't wait till we were home again, so in the car Will did something ingenious with his cassette recorder that made it possible to hear the cd. On a portable cd player, small car loudspeakers, it still sounds pretty acceptable.

BtS stew

Eindelijk staat alles dan - goed - op tape. Günter heeft de laatste saxpartijen erop gezet. Alle ingrediënten zijn aanwezig voor Will om er een smakelijke BtS-stew van te maken; homebrew! Dus: kom op ouwe mixer en laat ons snel wat moois horen. En achteraf: Do the dishes ;-))

On tape

´T wil wat al die analogiteit, analoogheid, analogie, vandattutnietdigitaalmoetmaargewoonweeropvandieouwerwetsebanden. Lastig hoor. Alles staat er nu op maar... bij beluisteren van de ruwe mix blijkt toch de zang op sommige punten wat ´bite´ te missen en dat kan natuurlijk niet. Ook moet er een stukje sax opnieuw. Goed nieuws is dat de sponsoring best goed loopt. Laat nog wel ff al je vrienden weten wat een leuk bandje dit is en dat er nog best wat cd´s zijn
