Happy Birthday to the exquisite artist Rene Lalique. His work is so beautifully sensual and is a huge inspiration for me. This brooch was made for nurses during the war (1915).

I love this gorgeous image, and story about Ken's sister, who left this planet all too early last year. (A repost from @kenmattson) "My sister, Varda was born in 1950 on this date. When I was a little kid, she would entertain me with amazing drawings of battles between fierce dragons and soldiers on horseback- wide landscapes, with distant mysterious castles. I wanted that power too, to invent worlds with a pencil... If I could draw like her, then I could see inside those castles... and discover what's on the other side of the mountains there!"
