Found myself today having Feelings about the suggestions Team Stray has for investigating Carrie and what it says about them. Ed being such a human werewolf he wants to pass as one against the trained eye of hunters; Vicky loving her family so much she trusts her mother's power from beyond the grave; Marco being a little ruthless and a little reckless and aiming right at what the problem is. I love those guys

I love this.

Those early investigation missions really helped me get to know the characters as well. When I wrote it, I had a good understanding of who each of them were, but there was still some fuzzy bits. Writing those scenes was really fun because it was like laying cement down, really locking in who these characters are, you know?

But also, lore. All three of those missions contain really important lore about the various flavours of supernatural people in this world.

I gave Ed the hunters pathway because a) Ed is smart and right to assume that hunters would have their finger on the pulse of the city's paranormal underbelly and b) he's a wee bit cocky, spends a lot of time with humans, and is pretty sure he can bluff his way out of getting murdered... which, in all fairness, he can.

Also, I think this mission was meant to show that hunters are human, and not necessarily good humans. There's a lot of reasons someone might pick up a wooden stake, and not all of them are noble.

Vicky got witches because, despite being the black clad ninja of the group, is actually the most careful, the most protective, and wants to use magic because it's probably the least risky way of finding out information. She also, as you pointed out, trusts magic in a way most werewolves don't because she was close to her mother who was a witch.

From a lore perspective, Vicky's mission is dense. I really wanted to show that magic is powerful, and dangerous, but also tricky and finicky, especially in the hands of novices. Plus, ghosts, maybe. Plus werewolves and witches can be family, but no witch is a werewolf and no werewolf is a witch.

And then there's Marco and the vampires which on the surface was a bit of a wildcard but I think it worked because you know grew up in a pack that 100% drove around in a rusty old truck harassing random vampires. He's a menace and is not unpractised in putting the fear of God Dog into a fledgling or two.

I wanted to show how shitty werewolf vampire relationships typically were... and that vampires weren't always the cause of those relationships being a bit sour. Also, as powerful as ancient vampires are, I wanted to show that vampires actually start out pretty sucky (heh).

I had so much fun writing that game. Genuinely miss my werewolves sometimes. Also, the early days, making all these lore decisions, figuring out who the characters were. It was great. It's still great, but a different flavour of great.

Not yet! I really want to, but I live in a small Australian town that has one local cinema run by a very nice (but also kinda awkward) guy who has to beg studios to let him show films.

I'm really hoping he gets Sinners, and am waiting to see if that happens, because I wanna support him. If not, then I'll see it when I go to Sydney or when I fly into New York at the end of the month.

Hello! Came back to play the game and Sergi has always been my RO of choice, but now I can't aeem to keep him alive theough the final end of the game like I used to. I was wondering if you might have any tips for this? For context, my MC is alpha, I tend to hang back and coordinate during the boss battled, followed by regrouping, and then going hard at Blackwell.

I'm not 100% sure what you're doing wrong, but the way the game works, depending on the amount of HP Blackwell has at the end depends on how many other people he takes down with him.

Perhaps don't hang back and zero in on Blackwell sooner and harder? All damage you take (as long as it doesn't kill you) is damage Blackwell doesn't deal to other pack mates.

Im just back from the movies and after charging up on some vampy goodness i have to ask, will you watch Sinners? Have you already seen it? 👀

I want to! I'm hoping it'll come to my small town, but I'm not sure if it will yet. If it doesn't, I'll try to see it when I'm next in Sydney, or if it's still in cinemas when I make it to New York at the end of May then I'll see it then.

Humans are so bizarre.

Internal skeletal structure. What's that about? Can't keep ourselves warm because we unevolved hair, so now we gotta steal other animal's skins and stuff so we don't freeze. Okay. Childbirth? How you gonna explain that one? You can't. We could be shooting DNA into the wind like trees, instead, here we are.
