I've always thought that this god from ch 1 looked a lot like Waka.

and was confused as to why and how that could be possible when we know the god that killed Shion looked nothing like that at least in Wakas eyes. Shion clearly says the god she was looking at was beautiful and in light of ch 51, we know how she truly felt about Waka.
(Waka using her god eyes in the same chapter)

This is the same god that killed Shion but from Wakas perspective. Completely different form than what we see above from ch 1.

Terrifying and hideous as Waka says. Do they look like that to her bc she has Alulas god eyes?? or do the gods show humans what they believe to be most beautiful in the world? Waka being the exception bc she is partially a god so she can recognize their true form.

and yes this is the same god that killed Shion, they admitted it to Waka themselves.

If Waka was the last thing that Shion saw......and all Waka wanted to know was this

all i know is that i don't want to live in a world without love.

Chapter 47 of After God goes so crazy. When trying to convey how hurt and betrayed he feels, Obikawa chooses to imitate Tokinaga. Back when Tokinaga rinsed him off in the shower he was furious but also kind of clinical (like a vet giving an unruly animal a bath, to call back to their conversation about IPOs and humans both being animals) but Obikawa is gentle and caring when he washes and dries Vollof. Something something an IPO being able to muster more tenderness than a human.
It also implies that when Obikawa acted like he was incapable of understanding Tokinaga's feelings, he did get it and just didn't want to acknowledge it. Because now, when he's in Tokinaga's position, he hearkens back to how Tokinaga tried to approach him and does the same thing.
And then he pulls the same hand over stomach pose that he tried with Tokinaga, and that Tokinaga later tried to do to him. But this time he actually succeeds in eating his friend—and his friend is okay with being eaten. And the reasoning is completely different. Obikawa still believes that eating his friends means he can stay connected to them, but he chose to eat Vollof because he genuinely thought it would be best for Vollof after hearing how much pain he was in. When he tried to eat Tokinaga it was entirely for his own benefit.
Also—

I wonder if Obikawa's right and Shion was only ever a means to an end. It's kind of hard to tell.

Consumption is the root of all things. It is the primary primordial activity: we feed when we are born, we become food when we die. All creation is attributed to nutrition.
