meet azelhart, half-wood elf ranger (beastmaster, formerly gloomstalker) / rogue (thief). don't let her urchin background fool you, she's very much starry-eyed and hopeful about the world. golden retriever is the best way to describe her. she's chaotic good, emphasis on the chaotic part — impulse control issues. she and lewyn grew up together, and currently her beast companion is a wolf cub named moon moon (lewyn named them don't ask questions)

shes selûnite adjacent. one of her parents was a druid, circle of the moon and she lived in moonhaven for a bit until it became drastically unsafe. on the way to waterdeep, she got separated from her family and ended up on the streets

me thinking about writing lewyn banter lines for bg3 and so far the only one i have is:

lewyn helping shadowheart cut her hair and yknow as she's probably gonna be more quiet and contemplative and he's just filling in the silence and sharing how the first time he cut his hair, it was euphoric. he talks about experiencing gender euphoria despite his hair looking like shit bc he cut it when he was like 8

i just think about how much tenderness he handles her with because he sees a lot of himself in her and also a lot of eulalia (who till this day, he believes he failed to protect) and just wants to keep her safe and well

i think about how he can be so annoying sometimes, even a pest in a loving way and probably either makes her laugh, chuckle, chortle, snicker or whatever in amusement and probably slight irritation but when it comes to serious things, he really just wants to make her feel safe

me thinking about how realistically if the whole gangs just yknow, doing side quest in rivington, he'll use that secret path way he knows to slip right into the lower city and map out where the house of grief is now (cuz he hasn't been back in a bit) before showing up probably days later with a map marked

i think about how he writes poetry and songs about people he loves and cares deeply for and honestly .... he's just very sweet but has a bit of a comedic, suave, and lackadaisical front. he cares very intensely.

DMs and I have consistently set lewyn's deception checks at anywhere from like 2 to like 30. the lower the number the less he gives a shit about whether you're lying to them. but you can presume that most Big Game Alterinf BG3 event decisions (or the bard / companion murdering) the DC is 25 minimum for deception

real talk : if lewyns travelling with durge and there are a few points that will permanently damage his relationship with them.

1 - slaying isobel. at this point lewyn is only staying with durge out of necessity because shadowheart has the artifact and shes with them. he's staying because he doesn't want to sprout tentacles or lose agency

2 - embracing bhaal, becoming his chosen. at this point he's already written a eulogy for them, a sad ballad because he knows Gods like bhaal will claim any part of you that exists in defiance to him. even if you are autonomous now and you think it's a ploy to earn the trust of a God, lewyn is preemptively mourning you bc he thinks it's only a matter of time

lewyn will not leave either tav, durge, or shadowheart no matter how low the approval falls because he knows he needs rhe artefact to survive. and he knows you can't just .... steal it. he does a lot of things out of self preservation.

yes this does apply to DJ shadowheart too, even if they romanced her. if she goes full DJ after the house of grief, he'll make sure he's the first one to dump her before she can dump them in the epilogue. in fact, he'd make it his personal mission that the house of grief gets shut down because they're predatory motherfuckers and he doesn't fuck around with exploiting the vulnerable.

i made lewyn like yeaaaars ago so it makes sense why I picked criminal/spy as his background (bc i didnt know u had so many options LMAO) but the more I think abt it the more I'm leaning towards editing it to urchin / charlatan tbh. it fits better lol

lewyn didn't mean to stare nor stalk from a corner. the truth is, there is something poetic about the way how the umbral darkness melted and faded into the silver light. it is the way how darkness and light are contrary figures but also deeply intertwined. it's inspiration he draws from the shadows — moon shadows, both illuminating and overcasting ; the way how the moon waxes and wanes, moving through phases — lewyn could wax poetics about this. he could remember the gratifying feeling of shaping his own hair for the first time. in metamorphosis there is catharsis.

" silver is good. like how the moon is constant in her inconstancy, silver too, can take on plenty of colours in their full vibrancy. " lewyn muses , taking a few steps forwards before sitting on a patch of grass. " besides, makes your eyes stand out more — in theory. that i can only know if I see for myself. "

this change is for her and no one else—an act of reclaiming herself ( the clumsy and uncertain start of putting together the shattered pieces of an identity ). the edges are jagged, cutting her hands, but she has endured far worse and will again. even in the midst of this fresh pain, this violent, spiritual re-breaking of every poorly-healed bone in her body, there is healing in this small but significant gesture.
