DC Twitter must have been INSANE when it got out that Superboy’s dads were Superman and Lex Luthor. Holy shit. The memes. The ship wars. The homophobes. The mpreg jokes. People would have lost their fucking minds. Lex Luthor releases a statement like “he’s a clone of me and Superman no birth was involved” and people are like KINDA GAY OF YOU TO HAVE A SON WITH ANOTHER MAN, LUTHOR. Lexcorp’s PR team locks themselves in a conference room and refuses to come out for love or money.

I think the reason I like Batman Beyond so much is because it is so much cleaner than the current main continuity. There is so little drama between Terry and Bruce (I know the comics ruin this, and don't even get me started on Epilogue, but I'm talking about the initial base premise here)
Like yes, Bruce has almost irrevocably fucked up his life, so that sucks. But it's clean start for them both.
Bruce is not Terry's dad, Terry is too old and jaded to feel that way. But he is his employer/mentor/wise older male figure. And Terry has seen Bruce at his worst, a once powerful and dedicated man, now sad and isolated through his own actions, so Bruce can't really let him down if Terry doesn't expect anything from him.
Terry is not Bruce's "son", he's not relying on Bruce to provide anything except advice and medical aid, and Bruce has had literally decades to dwell on all the ways he fucked up with the others. So even though he is still a mess, he is going into this relationship with eyes open to all his faults and will try not to make the same mistakes again.
They do care about each other, and will fight for each other, but Bruce doesn't have the added possibility of failing Terry as a father, and Terry doesn't have the added expection of Bruce living up to what he needs in a father.

I think my main issue with Bad Dad Bruce is that Batman is at his core Hope. He's the kid that lost everything and has decided to try and do right by other people, to make sure no one else ever suffers what he did.
He's the Dark Knight, and in Gotham even with all of the other stuff Batman is in a lot of ways a signifier of hope. A good thing coming out of a cursed city from a position of power that he chooses to use to help others in every way he can. Someone who believes that no one deserves to die and is trying to help the people who have been driven into being his enemies by the circumstances of their lives.
He's hope. And the idea that he hits his kids, kids he took in because he saw himself in them and wanted to help to prevent them from turning into him? That just doesn't make sense.
Exactly. And if Bruce is that dark, gigachad overpowered edgy guy who hits his kids, how does that ensure that they end up on a path better than his? He endured tragedy and then sought out vicious training, and surmounted the impossible to return to Gotham. That's not the path he wants for his kids, otherwise he'd be shipping them off for League training every summer.
The point is that Bruce endured tragedy, sought a solution to his anger and desperation, and realized that he could teach a better way, even if he couldn't follow it himself. Dick was the test case. The others were proof, even Jason. Throughout it all, he's guiding them to something -- excuse the shitty marvel quote here -- he can never truly possess. Which is hope and healing.

boostle and stephcass are similar in the sense that they will lure you in like "teehee soft sweet silly sapphics" and "dumb silly goofy gays" but you actually get attached and then you realize...the tragedy of it all...the absolute devestation that comes from devotion

the batkids & stardew valley
dick: tries to befriend everyone and finds out everyone’s favorite things to receive. has dated every available character at least once. cares more about the lore and character relationships than farming/mining/etc.
cass: has a few favorite characters that she always befriends. good work/life balance. grows a lot of crops and has a few chickens & cows. thinks the junimos are cute but doesn’t really care about the lore. relates to sebastian
jason: ignores every character except for linus. focuses on mining and slaying monsters. doesn’t care about the character lore, but is really invested in the worldbuilding. loves the junimos
tim: accepts every quest and gets it done no matter what. takes everything way too seriously. loves giving artifacts and minerals to the library. tries to talk to every character at least once a day (he needs them to like him)
damian: gets as many animals as possible and prioritizes them over anything else. best friends with marnie. desperately wants to steal sam’s dog for himself. hates lewis and thinks marnie deserves better. doesn’t care about most characters or lore- just likes taking care of his cows, chickens, goats, rabbits and horse

fucking hate it when i'm reading a fanfic and tim explains to dick what ptsd means as if that man didn't have a degree on psychology by this point GOD an important aspect of dick's character is that he is great at reading people and figuring out their weak points and that he doesn't think manipulating others is wrong as long as it serves the greater good (ring any bells? yeah) i think he fucking knows what gaslighting means anyways stop making dick stupid especially in the emotional intelligence department i'll kill you

Bruce acts so emo all the time that I just can't help but enjoy the idea(/headcanon, I guess) of him secretly just being an old man dad- Like all of the villains go 'Omg it's Batman we're gonna get beat up' and Commissioner Gordon randomly thinks to himself while working late 'I bet Batman is doing super smart stuff like looking at case files or serving justice rn' but it turns out Bruce is just in the Batcave, very seriously talking to the Bat-Computer about the definition of slang like "Okay 'Puter, define 'Yeet' for me.."
Or he's up at 3AM scrolling through Tim's Tumblr blog looking for ways to connect with his child, but instead becomes mildly concerned when he sees Tim posted a pic five minutes ago of himself at Waffle House (He thought he was in his bedroom-?) with the caption 'Lmao just had a mental breakdown ✌'
Bruce: "So, Damian.. Have you 'rizzed up' any 'level ten gyatts' recently?"
Damian: "Father wtf"
Of course all of the Bat-Kids know this, and try to subtly introduce him to different memes because he always looks so proud of himself when he properly uses slang, he's like 'Heck yeah my kids are gonna think I'm cool'

Just realised that I dislike the idea that if Batman doesn't find Jason Todd and take him in then Jason dies on the streets, not because it's unrealistic or underestimates the character. He's 12. He's homeless. In Gotham. Its plenty realistic.
But I dislike it because its only ever brought up its to highlight the good Bruce does, the destitution of the people without him. It is, once again, making Jason Todd's death actually be about Batman.

do you guys ever think about how Jason has to keep "stealing" his siblings friends because all he had was Gotham and how he never got to actually experience his teenage years, or have his own fun hero friends to hang out with, how he never got a highschool diploma or the opportunity to apply for college and how he'll never be able to get justice over his death because Bruce tampered with the crime scene so no one actually knows that the Joker killed him, or are you guys normal?
