Audrey Hepburn wearing Givenchy in Love in the Afternoon (1957) and Jean Seberg wearing Givenchy in Bonjour Tristesse (1958).
“Together [Audrey Hepburn and Hubert de Givenchy] decided on eleven outfits (totaling $35,000), which included a mixture of separates and dresses that perfectly encapsulated Parisian elegance. Coincidentally, Audrey had been eyed for the role of Cécile for the Hollywood adaptation of Bonjour Tristesse, based on the novel by Françoise Sagan. For reasons concerning the character’s morality, Audrey turned down Bonjour Tristesse and, in turn, accepted the role of Ariane [in Love in the Afternoon]. Yet it was Givenchy who was hired to create the costumes for both films. Adopting designs from his most recent collection, Ariane’s and Cécile’s costumes were similar in fabric and pattern but with contrasting silhouettes. Audrey chose a higher neckline and longer hemline, whereas the actress playing Cécile, Jean Seberg, preferred a halter cut and shorter skirts.”
