if you’re in a categorically alienated group, nothing you say or do as an individual will cause the dominant group to hold you in higher esteem. in fact, if you’re too nice, you may become the exception that proves the rule and they’ll hate the alienated group all the more for it.
what i’m saying is stop waiting for them to pick you. pick your damn self.

Since voidpunk seems to be gaining some steam lately (which makes me really excited!) and I’ve seen some confusion over it, I thought I’d make a post to clear up some things. So, here you go:
You don’t have to be aro to be voidpunk. Voidpunk is also for aces, nonbinary people, autistic and otherwise neurodivergent people, disabled people, and anyone else who struggles with feelings of dehumanization.
You should not use the voidpunk label if you participate in the marginalization of any such groups. Also, if you’re a transphobe, you are absolutely not voidpunk in any way and I sincerely hope you fall down the nearest stairs. Thanks.
I invented the concept, but the actual word “voidpunk” was suggested by @milkchocolateowl. The “punk” part originates from the definition of punk that I was always taught growing up (aka a counterculture based around standing up for yourself and others, and fighting back against oppressive power structures), and voidpunk was not intended to have any association with any groups of disgusting garbage posers who have the audacity to call themselves punk.
Voidpunk is NOT akin to a gender or a sexual/romantic orientation. It’s more like being goth or something. On that note, there currently is no flag that has been widely accepted by the community.
You can have as many or as few voidsonas as you want, and you don’t have to necessarily identify as voidpunk to have one.
Voidpunk is NOT a subset of otherkin, alterhumanity, etc. Though there may be some similarities between these identities, I don’t know anything about those communities, so any overlap is unintentional.
Overall, voidpunk is a very nebulous concept, and open to being defined and altered to fit what the community or individuals feel. Just don’t do anything dickish with it, guys.

the statements “things like void punk are only necessary/only exist because society so heavily favours ‘normal’ individuals and ostracizes and mocks those who don’t conform to the point that the feel alien” and “void punk is a perfectly valid label/identity” can and should coexist

living in the countryside really strikes the fear of god into you at the most random moments. you’ll just make eye contact with a cow or stare for too long into a brook and all of a sudden you’ll think something like “these are old bones and i am merely a passing occupant” and then you have to go and put the kettle on to cope

gays and neurodivergent ppl are obsessed with cryptids, the fae, liminal spaces, etc because we often exist on the fringe of society and lack well-defined social identities, feeling such acute isolation from the “normal” world that we align ourselves more with things that are literally not of this world. in this essay i will

VOIDPUNK
What is voidpunk?
According to the Aesthetics Wiki, its “a subculture for those who often feel rejected or disconnected from humanity, such as asexual or aromantic people, neurodivergent people, nonbinary people, and others often rejected as ‘subhuman’ by society. It is centered around rejecting the neurotypical or normative.”
It’s basically where a person who has been treated a subhuman (i.e. POC, LGBTQ+ people, disabled people, neurodivergent people) says “you know what, you’re right, I’m not human, I’m an eldritch monstrosity and the world can suck it”.
A lot of us probably joined this community a long time ago without every really giving it a name. It’s sort of a natural progression when you’ve been casually dehumanized for so long. I remember being like 13-years-old and calling myself “the imaginary friend” because people would be friends with me when they were completely alone, and abandon me once they found real people to be friends with. You don’t find voidpunk, voidpunk finds you.
Voidsonas
Sometimes voidpunks will create a character that describes who they feel they are, beyond their physical forms (as voidpunks often have complicated relationships with their given bodies).
