The answer doesn't really matter but idk im curious if youd count me a persecutor. Im normally just, idk, me; Teenage girl who holds the spicier end (via split) of a former persecutor. I actually rly hate violence and hate getting that way, but when another persecutor shows up i just kinda flip a switch? I put them in their place, you know? But the stupid thing is, ppl with short fuses usually just try to yell or make threats, but thats no scarier than a cat puffing up its tail to look big. Real threats know they dont need to make a big show of it. You just look them in the eye and talk. It doesn't take strength to be an asshole, stab someone, or rape them. Pers's in here are usually like they are cuz they'd been through way worse as kids. Real strength is learning how to deal with trauma without lashing out, making yourself bend not break. They aren't afraid of getting hurt. But you know what they are afraid of, each and every one? Losing control, being broken, being shown just how weak they are in the face of someone who's actually strong. Smart ones see in my eyes that I can take control if I wanted, that I could break them without a drop of blood, that I don't pretend to be above them on the food chain as part of some maladaptive coping scheme to run from my demons — I simply am. Real power isn't found in hurting vulnerable people, anyone can do that, all it does is give you the illusion of power so you can ride the high. You know what is kind of powerful though? Subjegating abusers, making someone who terrorizes people get on their knees and call you Ma'am without laying a finger on them. They know I don't bite, not bc I can't or won't hurt them, but bc I don't need to.

I'll Keep This Nice And Short; This Long Ass Ask Told Me Little To NOTHING. All I Gather From This Is That You Put Persecutors In Their Place ... WITHOUT Harming Them ... we have a persecutor who's a he/they transmasc nonbinary teen, and they get SO pissy when someone like. refuses to accept that they what they Say they are because "well youre not *cis* so you cant be *that* bad" (something we've genuinely heard before. what the fuck btw)

and we have another persecutor (he labled himself this) whos around 11 and hes just. like. under his anger and standoffishness hes genuinely a super sweet guy, and even if he wasnt we'd still love him to bits, but people dont expect an 11 year old syskid to snap at them even after we explain that "hey, hes actively pretty mean unless youre one of his friends, you've been warned"

Neo Is A Teenage Girl Who Broke Down And Manipulated Another Player (“Alter”) In Our SMP (“System”) Into Believing He Was Her Friend/Lover(?) From Source While Terrorizing Other Players As A Distraction. She Could Also Create Other Persecutors/Forcefully Split Other Persecutors/Whatever The Hell Description You’d Be Less Angry At Hearing.

Ebony Is A Manipulative Young Woman. She Talks Down On Alejandro And Instilled/Encouraged A Belief In Him That He Deserves To Be Seen As A Monstrous Persecutor For Everything He’s Done And Actively Prevents Alejandro From Reforning. She’s Completely Undone A Whole Year (I Think) Of Progress.

Areo Is A Little Intrusive Thoughts Holding Persecutor Who Scares The SMP Into Thinking We’re Going To Get Fakeclaimed And Harassed And Tries Force Source Separation On Our Players, And Deleting And Altering Their Profiles To Reflect That Separation. This Has Lead To Us Needing To Lock Simply Plural Behind A Passcode And Set Up Fake Profiles On Octocon That He Can Freely Fuck With And Delete. His Source Memories Influence His Fears And His Fears Influence His Actions. With Reassurance From Our Fiancé, He’s Hurt The SMP … Less. He’s Still Very Guarded And Refuses To Get Close To Or Vulnerable With Our Fiancé, But It’s A Work In Progress.

I Can Name Many Persecutors In Our SMP (“System”), And Only TWO (Myself Being One Of Them) Harmed The SMP Under A Misguided Attempt To Protect, Not Our OWN SMP, But Our PARTNER SYSTEM.

One Persecutor Harmed The SMP Because He Had Come Out Of The Nether (“Dormancy”) To See An SMP That Had Changed And Grown Up Without Him And, Afraid Of Change, He Hurt, Manipulated, And Terrorized Players (Alters) In An Attempt To Have Control Over Something -- SOMEONE -- And Keep Them From Ever Changing Unless He MADE or LET Them Change. He Still Hurts People, Though Now Only Because He Doesn’t Think he Is DESERVING Of Change, Of Getting BETTER, And Is Trying To Convince Everyone That He’s Not Deserving Of Changing For The Better. That He Deserves To Be A Monster.

Another Persecutor Of Ours Hurt Others In The SMP Because She, At First Glance, Just … Wanted To. She Seemed To Hurt Players Purely Out Of Boredom. But After She’d Broken Down And Built Back Up One Of Our Members Into Thinking He Was Someone Else, We Realized She Just … Really Missed That Person And Wanted Him Back. The Hurting Others Was A Distraction So That She Could Traumatize And Torture And Manipulate This One Player Into Thinking He Was The Person She Missed. And The End Result Wasn't Even What She Wanted. She Got The Player To Think He Was The Person She Wanted But ... He Was Left Permanently Regressed Due To What She Put Him Through. He Wasn't The Age She Wanted Him To Be.

Myself And Another Now Ex-Persecutor Hurt The SMP In An Attempt To Scare Others Into Not Hurting Or Even Upsetting Our Son In Our Partner System. It Was An Intimidation Tactic That Went To Far. If Someone In Our Partner System Hurt Our Son, We’d Hurt Someone They Loved In Our Own SMP To Threaten And Get Back At Them. We Very Often Ended Up Hurting Our Son In The Process.

I Suggest Getting A Gatekeeper To Keep Tabs On Them.

Think About Or Simply Ask Why He Does What He Does. Are They Traumatic Memories He's Tampering With? Is He Getting Rid Of Nightmares Or Giving You Nightmares? Is He Trying To Scare Or Manipulate Your System Into Avoiding Any Abusers Or Negative Influence Or Stay With Them?

Get To The Root Cause And Try To Work From There. Come Back In A While If You Need More Assistance Or Wish To Simply Give An Update On Any Progress Made.

And Above All Else, Remember That Recovery And Healing Does Not Happen Over Night.

I Understand Many Are Tempted To "Lock Away" (Suppress Or Force Into Dormancy) Their Persecutors And Harmful Adjacents, But It Will Not Help. For One, It Will Show Them That They Are Not Deserving Of Help Or Healing. It Will Make Them Feel Betrayed And Abandoned By Your System. And Should They Ever Escape Or Come Back, They Are Certain To Come Back Angry. That Anger Will Just Lead To Them Hurting More Of Your Alters.

And Something I Do Not See Shared Around Much Is The Very Real Possibility Of The Persecutor's ... Let's Call It Essence ... Lingering Around And Affecting The System. While The Persecutor May Be "Gone," Their Influence And Effect On The System Isn't. Alters Can Shift Into Persecutory Roles To Fill In The "Locked Up" Persecutor's Absence. New Persecutors Can Form For The Same Reason.

In Most Cases I've Seen, From Both Our Own System And Others, It's Never A Healthy Or Good Thing To Get Rid Of Your Persecutors.

It’s never okay to lock a headmate away, never. They could be the worst person in the world, you still shouldn’t lock them away. There’s a difference between keeping headmates away from eachother and taking away someone’s privacy, free will and connections. You are abandoning that headmate, you are telling them that they are not worth helping, that they don’t deserve to get better. If talking it out doesn’t work for them there are other options, I’d recommend giving them their own space to speak their mind without threat of mistreatment for it, for starters. If someone really doesn’t want help don’t force it on them, just let them know it’s always an option and leave it at that. -Ange
