Sure, Vee knew that in the entire time she'd known them, Solaris had never mentioned or even shown signs of hunger, but the fact they said they couldn't get hungry anymore was interesting. Species quirk, maybe? Even herself - she enjoyed plain old Earth food, but as a basilisk, she ultimately needed magic to survive. If the food wasn't magic-infused, in the end, it was just empty calories to her. Delicious, comforting, and wonderful, but empty nonetheless.
...she wasn't going to dog on them with their pal here, but she mentally filed that away for her own future knowledge. Maybe there were certain things they could consume for energy, even if it wasn't Earth food.
She followed Siffrin's gaze towards Solaris, crossing her arms briefly. Wow, were those two crazy good at nonverbal communication. But... were they on the same page here?
❝Make her jealous...? Oh, so you are offering what I thought you were!❞ She exclaimed, hands on the side of her head in excitement. ❝Ooh, okay, okay... I... I think I'd like that, if you wanna bring me. It sounds really tempting, but I need to make sure I can get back first...? Actually... hang on-❞ A hop skip and a jump and she was on the porch steps, reaching out to open the front door... and she paused. She took a deep breath, unsure of why she was hesitant to open it. What was she so afraid of? The Isles, still?
Her hand on the doorknob, she slowly turned it, and-
❝Whew, okay, good to know.❞ She breathed a sigh of relief as the only thing that greeted her on the other side was the familiar sight of the Bonesborough cliffside overlooking the teal green sky. ❝Honestly, I was kinda wondering if it has to do with... what your native realm is?❞ Vee mused, closing and reopening it a few times to be certain that when she was using it, the portal was only connecting to the Demon Realm.
Her anxieties calmed, she closed it, and turned to her soon-to-be travel companions as she continued along her current train of thought. ❝Before this portal existed, there was an old one that needed a special key every time someone went to the human realm, and a sample of Titan's blood when going to the Isles.❞
Siffrin blinked when they saw the way Vee blinked. That. Huh? They glanced at Solaris, but they had no reaction to it. Huh. Must be . . . normal, then? Especially with now knowing that where the portal presumably led to was called the Demon Realm.
Solaris grimaced at her words. "Stars, yeah." She could hide far better than they could but it didn't make things much better. There was still that anxiety, that fear, of what others' reactions might be.
They stifled a laugh. "Trying to make me hungry in turn? It won't work! I can't get hungry anymore~!"
That didn't mean Siffrin couldn't, though, and stars now that he was picturing that he was in fact starting to get hungry. Good thing he was planning on getting something to eat right after this!
"No, but . . ." He trailed off, turning his gaze to Solaris. Was this okay? Surely they understood what he was trying to do, right?
They were looking right back at him. Offering Vee to come with? Well . . . It would be fun to show her around, and it would mean more time before they had to choose where they wanted to stay . . . So long as they made sure they'd be able to get her back home, anyway.
Solaris turned to Vee.
"Would you like to make your sister jealous?" Explore a brand new world! Be immersed in a culture that used Craft instead of spell circles! "We will have to act as translators, though."

Vee hesitated, unsure if she should even do this at all with Siffrin here, he looked very human, but if they were this close with a star person, certainly it shouldn't be an issue...
She lolled her head to one side with a mock droll voice to boot, ❝Trust me, I get it, how do you think I feel?❞ she asked, blinking with her nictitating membrane briefly before dropping the act and sighing. ❝People here are a lot more accepting than they probably are elsewhere, but... it's still kind of a broader secret that the Demon Realm even exists. It's... better to be safe than sorry.❞
Vee groaned. ❝I guess I will suffer. Now I'm stuck just... picturing a basket of little breadsticks in my mind.❞ She sighed, then opened her eyes as she snapped her fingers. ❝Ooh, imagine them with a little bit of olive oil for dipping, even.❞
She turned to face Siffrin with a smile as they spoke again, and she found herself blinking at them with wide eyes as she processed what he said. Surely he didn't mean...
❝Hah, you got some goodies on you right now, or... what?❞ She attempted to joke, faltering slightly at the end.
"Oh, so more reason for me to be careful going around in the human realm!" Great!!! They were already trying to avoid it as much as possible due to how obviously nonhuman they looked and how much attention that would draw, but to know the town had such a history with magic was!!! Not something they wanted to experience themself just because they were existing in public!!! Even if the worst of it was passed, they didn't want to risk it coming back up again because of how obviously magic they were.
"Too bad! Suffer!" They laughed.
Baby breadsticks. Cute! "They do look like baby breadsticks, don't they? But yes! They do have a name!"
Siffrin watched the two of them with a smile. Would Solaris mind if they . . . ?
"You could try some Vaugardian sweet treats," he offered.

She watched Siffrin look back and forth between herself and Solaris as they talked, alongside their generally quiet nature, but she chalked it up to them being in an unfamiliar realm around an unfamiliar person talking about - you guessed it - unfamiliar matters. She didn't blame them one bit.
❝Hoh yeah they killed them. Not quickly or particularly humanely, either.❞ Vee shuddered. The idea of killing, or of something being in pain before it inevitably died was one of her biggest squicks to this day. She hated thinking about it. ❝This town actually has a looong history of persecuting any witches or other magic users.❞
She froze, then raised her hands up ❝Obviously all in the past! But... a lot of people are still kinda scared of magic, so... it's not always safe everywhere to be a visible magic user just yet.❞
She closed her eyes, letting out a short laugh, ❝C'monnn, now all I'm gonna be thinking of is sweet treats, and it's not even dinner time!❞ She huffed, then tilted her head. ❝Oh wait, I know what you're talking about now, they have them at that snack store Luz always drags me into, I didn't know they had a name. I always just called them... baby breadsticks.❞
Siffrin listened to Vee's words in fascination. It sounded like something out of a fantasy novel. Was this really what things were like here . . . ? They were in such a different place than they were used to, and they were used to that being the case, as someone whose whole remembered life had been spent traveling from country to country, but this felt more so than even that. They felt entirely out of their depth. Almost too much - they had to focus to stop it from going right over their head.
But . . . as he glanced at Solaris, yes, the information was obviously new to them, but . . .
He looked between the two of them as Vee spoke. Solaris, and their friend, talking about things specific to this place.
. . . They looked at home, here. Comfortable, with people they cared about, that cared about them. After what he'd seen in the loops, with Solaris secluding themself away beneath the Favor Tree, refusing to interact with their family, refusing to even look at them, refusing to come with when everything was said and done . . . It was nice, to see them somewhere they actually felt comfortable.
. . .
They'd been stranded here, yes, but . . .
Would they even want to come home?
"They KILLED anyone that could use magic?!" Blinding stars! What was wrong with them?!
Solaris' eyes creased with amusement at her declaration of them making her hungry. "I won't apologize! It was the easiest way for me to explain!"
And then she listed what countries their own ones related to, and they snapped their fingers. "Those are the ones! Yes, France, Japan, and Italy! Poterians do like pasta, a lot, yes. Grissini are like . . . breadsticks? But not the fluffy soft ones I've seen here. They're thin, and dry, and remind me of pretzels but aren't at all pretzels."

The languages having different names but otherwise being mostly the same was baffling. They had even mentioned the continents not being the same back home. But the fact that so many other things seemed to line up... it was so interesting, and so strange.
❝Uh, technically? Long story but...❞ she gestured with a thumb at the portal, ❝magic on the Boiling Isles stems from the magic of almost immortal deceased fallen beings, their death releases their magic into the environment and magic sprung up in lifeforms 'cause of it.❞ She tapped a finger to her chin, ❝Their blood is really powerful- it's what the portal's actually made of- and when one dies, it can and has leaked through to Earth. So, there's been reports of spellcasting and magic existing all throughout human history.❞
She hesitated to keep going, smiling sheepishly, ❝Sorry, don't mean to ramble, but it's kind of contested as to whether or not humans ever possessed or harnessed real magic on this side of the realm, or if it was just the native species of the Isles, who are humanoid, who found their way to Earth and moseyed around... or, none of the above.❞ She shrugged as she continued, ❝No one really knows the truth, but there was this whole big thing where they... uh, killed any presumed magic-havers, and ever since then it's just been the stuff of fairytales.❞
Oh... Vaugardian and... Poterian, was it? They were similar to- ❝Spanish.❞ she verbally offered, contemplating the implications. And... Ka Buan had a different writing system? Hmm... Cyrillic, Greek, Arabic... man, there were others she was forgetting... Korean, Japanese, Chinese...
❝Gah, you're making me hungry,❞ she giggled as they began listing off various foods, even if it was a good idea. Right away she clocked the French pastries, and she knew onigiri was specifically Japanese, but she was stumped on the last one for a minute. ❝Huh... I don't know what grissini are, but gnocchi is definitely... hang on, do Poterian people really like pasta? Like... really like pasta?❞ She asked, raising a brow, ❝because Vaugarde sounds a lot like France - I'd know those pastry names anywhere, I think Ka Bua could be Japan, and if Poterians are pasta freaks, they're probably Italian.❞
"Woah!" She snapped like he did when speeding people up, but didn't make any obvious craft signs before it, and the fact that it just created an orb of light like that . . . Did they have different spells, too?
"Apparently! They have different names, though. But the words themselves are mostly the same!"
Magic? Wait, was she being serious when she mentioned magic earlier? He looked at Solaris, but they didn't seem to be at all surprised at her mentioning it. Rather, they were more surprised at . . .
"Wait, magic used to be here on Earth?" Vee never mentioned that before!
Ah, stars, she wanted to know which ones. Of course she wanted to know which ones. Stars, they were bad at remembering names . . . "I . . . don't remember your words for them off the top of my head. But I would recognize them if I saw them!" They hummed in thought. "Vaugardian and Poterian both are similar to that language your family speaks, though. They're not the same, but have some similar words. Ka Buan is one that has an entirely different writing system than any of them. Technically three, actually?"
Oh, wait, even if they couldn't remember the names, she might be able to recognize the shared foods? They knew the snacks Bonnie presented in the House by heart, after all. "Palmiers, madeleines, pain au chocolat, those are all Vaugardian. Onigiri, sushi, wasabi are from Ka Bue. Poteria has things like risotto, grissini, gnocchi. Sound familiar?"
