Nic didn’t exactly share the same homicidal tendencies that Klaus did, however he understood the sentiment, more than perhaps he was comfortable with. “I think they just call that parenting, or at least – fatherhood.” His words were offered with a slight raising of his brow, before his lips upturned into a fleeting smile. Yet his smile soon disappeared at the mention of Hope’s death – or transition, whatever term the vampires had coined for it. He had already had the run in with the newly transitioned tribrid in the alleyway that had taken him aback. He knew that whilst this was always destined to be an eventual reality, it had occurred much sooner than any of them had desired. “I guess this part wasn’t in the parenting handbook. If its any consolation, she was always destined to be a remarkable kid. The difference is, you and Hayley get to be here for her, you get to see it.”

Klaus let a small chuckle fall, “I wouldn’t know.” He remarks, Klaus didn’t have many friends and those he had once were turn enemy or simply dead and they weren’t parent types. The examples he had of fatherhood were nothing Klaus wanted to follow in, instead he blindly lead his own way, trying to be the very things in a father that he once wanted. “My daughter is remarkable in a great many ways, she needn’t die to achieve yet another.” Klaus wanted Hope to live a full and happy life without more burdens being cast upon her. It seemed the child just wasn’t going to lucky in that regard and he could only feel himself to blame. “My daughter keeps putting herself in danger, I died to protect her. There is no topping that I suppose one would say.” In short that only meant to Klaus that he could only fail here on out. It was as he told Elijah, he couldn’t survive his daughter’s love, he would put himself on the line for her any time he could and it his dismay she wanted to do the same. “An older version of myself would have found her a threat, now I can only think of how many others will.” How many others already had and now that she was the full fledged tribrid how many more would come out of the woodwork?

As he walked past her Hope sighed softly before falling in beside him.  He wasn’t wrong, and she knew that.  The last few years, as she’d planned and executed the spell that brought everyone back, she’d gotten used to working alone and not having anyone to share her goals with for fear that they’d stop her, or tell her that she was wrong.  And maybe that feeling of working alone had become too commonplace, too routine, and maybe it had caused her to keep people in the dark about the things she was doing.  And her father was right - it was only hurting people she cared about.

“You’re right,” she offered softly.  She wasn’t caving because she wanted absolution, but because it was the truth.  “And I’m sorry. Hurting you, hurting mom, that’s never been what I wanted.  Which doesn’t matter, because intent and action aren’t the same thing.  All I can do is promise to try and be better.  This fight that’s coming, I want to fight it at your side.”

There was a moment of silence as they walked, and when she spoke again it was so soft as to be nearly inaudible, laced with emotion.

“I’m always going to be underage.”

Klaus was never sure how Hayley’s parenting methods went but he always assumed he was the harsher of the two and he could only say that it was done out of the greatest and yet the worst example that he had. “We keep promises in this family.” He says looking back at her with a softer tone and expression in his eyes, worry was never a look that Klaus carried well and he lashed out when hurt. 

Her next words hurt the most however, as it was never his desire for her to trigger at such a young age. Letting out a sigh he wraps his arm around her shoulders pulling her in as they walked and kissing her hair, “You’ll always look underage.” He corrects her knowing that it was never going to be easy for her as she got older, “At the very least you won’t worry for wrinkles.” No one wanted to look like a child when they were centuries old, “You were never supposed to trigger your vampire nature so early in life, no more than you were meant to your wolf, it hurts to see that you have. Simply because it means we failed to keep you safe and you might miss out on things in life now because of it.” Klaus never wanted to see Marcel a vampire either but at least he was well into his twenties before Klaus had to endure that.

“Shockingly, I’m not here to bother you,” Jackson insisted, peeling off his coat and setting the garment on the bar still tacky with blood and whatever else had come out of the creatures they’d spent the night fighting.  “I’m just here to have a drink or two while Hayley catches up with everyone.  Because as usual,” he gestured to the bartender for his own drink and swallowed it in one go, “she’s handling all of this better than I am.  Best I can do is stay out of her way.”

He gestured for two more rounds and set them up on the bar in front of him.  “If you’d have asked me what the odds were that we’d be invaded by fairy tale creatures today I think I’d have said zero.  Shows you what I know.”

“Your motive might be not to but that doesn’t mean you won’t.” Klaus says as he pours another drink for himself as the bartender poured Jackson one for him. “The knack of a orphan who took care of herself most of her life.” He mutters knowing full well Hayley likely could take care of anything and was more so used to handling them herself anyway. 

Klaus grew silent thinking about the creatures that attacked, “I have a vague memory, things that hadn’t accrued to me to be...important.” Coming back from the dead was no picnic and he wasn’t sure if he could trust everything that flooded his mind. These were memories from his human life and early vampire days, perhaps Elijah had the right idea of keep journals.

Hope looked mildly taken aback, but she didn’t reply quickly - not wanting to do so in anger or frustration.  “Everything I’ve done, all of this, has been for you and Mom.  To have you in my world and to be in yours.  And I’m sorry, I really truly am, if I’ve made you feel for one minute that I’ve been dodging you.  But you’re absolutely right, I do owe you answers about what happened tonight.  We don’t have to do it here, though.  I’m not going anywhere, not ever again I hope, so if you want to walk down the street and find somewhere we can sit down I’ll answer everything that I know how to.  I’ll even pay for the bourbon.”  She offered a hand, expression slightly downcast at the thought that he’d seen the last while’s events as dodging him in any way.

Klaus shakes his head, “You talk like any other witch in circles and I don’t like it when witches in general do it. I like it even less when my own daughter does it.” She picked her words too carefully and said half truths most of the time and Klaus could see a parent doing it to shield a child but he wasn’t interested in hearing it from his own child. “All these secret schemes and who pays for it other than you? Your mother, who was worried sick about you, myself and the rest of the family because while you want this family together and seem to be going through great lengths to meet that goal you tell none of your family about it.” Klaus might not have the best room to speak but he usually ended up telling Elijah everything about his plans when the plan didn’t call for Elijah’s ignorance, even when no one else liked it or agreed. “I don’t require my underage daughter to pay for my drinks.” He answers walking past her still feeling sour about the whole ordeal of the night and seeing his daughter’s current state.

Nic’s earlier outbursts had potentially done him more harm than good, but he had hardly been the only one acting out that day. All of them had something to lose, something of which they weren’t willing too, so who could really fault them for that. He had been sat next to the original for all but a few moments, before Klaus had intervened. With a slow shake of his head as he reached for his own drink, the wolf murmured, “that’s more friendly advice than I’d have given.” He paused for a moment to take a shot from his glass before lowering it to the countertop. “I’m glad Hope’s home.”

Klaus gave a slightly bitter laugh, “I’m walking a thin line of being on good behavior to protect my daughter or slaughtering everyone in town just for my own brief peace of mind.” He admits with a soft sniffle as he takes another shot from his glass. There was a bitter taste not from the bourbon, “Only after she found herself dead.” He remarks, triggering her vampire nature was something Klaus always knew would happen one day but he had hopes it would have happened later in her life. Not before she could make it out in the world on her own. “Suppose one could call it a bittersweet home coming.” With the feeling of failing her washing over him, what good was he back if he couldn’t even protect her, if he didn’t even know the dangers that she was facing alone.

Klaus had enough, the night was longer than he cared to admit and it wasn’t due to a physical exhaustion, it was emotional. He had been raging most of the night wondering how the attacks were linked to his daughter and where she had been taken and by whom. None of the answers were given and he couldn’t handle the bitter taste in his mouth so he did the only reasonable thing he could think of. 

Pouring himself a drink at the Grill having the bottle left in front of him, it took hours for him to get the blood staining from his skin and under his nails and even now he was sure he could still see the slight pink tint on his hand as he raised his glass to his lips and took a long drink. “If you’re here to try my patience I will give the last bit of friendly advice I have to offer and say ‘Don’t’, its thin as it stands.” He mutters pouring another filling into his glass.

Snatch. Eat. Erase.  Hope knew the drill.  The compulsion side of things had taken a few tries, but the blonde standing across from her in the alley behind Dr. Salvatore’s office was looking back at her with an eerie calm that couldn’t have come from anything but Hope’s suggestion to not be afraid.  It was her first feed since the one immediately after waking, and while part of her was terrified of getting it wrong she had to trust in herself and what she knew.

Leaning in, she sank her fangs into the woman’s neck and drank deeply from her, running a hand through the woman’s fine hair in a gesture that she was sure was meant to calm one of them - which one, exactly, she couldn’t say.  It was with a great deal of effort that Hope pulled herself away a moment later, wiping her lips clean with the back of her hand.  “Go,” she gestured to the blonde.  “Remember, you cut yourself on something but you don’t remember what.  Go home and clean that, okay?  And change the dressings every day until it’s healed.”

Only as she turned away did she hear footsteps approaching from the other end of the alley.  “Sorry, this creepy alley is taken.  Please try the next one.”

Searching high and low for their daughter Klaus was going mad with frustration and no doubt Hayley was as well. The two never did well when it came to Hope being in trouble or danger, they likely never would as once you had a child, it was always your baby. Well save for his mother with her own children but that was no parent of the year winner there. 

Her sudden appearance while being some weight off of his shoulders certainly didn’t bring a smile to the Hybrid’s face. If anything he frowned at her flippant attitude and the lack of information given while Hayley and he had been worried. “I don’t believe so. In fact I would dare to say we’re both to stay in this alley till I get the answers I require. I am growing quickly annoyed by the dodging, secret keeping and frankly complete disregard you seem to have for your parents. I’m at a half a mind to wonder why you went through the trouble to force us from our graves along with half the population.”

A single brow rose as a hand rested against her teeny tiny growing bump as the male began his outburst, a heat flushing over her as her heart skipped a beat within her chest and she found herself watching the Original Hybrid in awe. An impressed hum fled her lips as she continued to watch on in silence before the male’s voice spoke out to the beast he had pinned to the wall. “Klaus,” she finally spoke out, voice soft. “I don’t know that this one’s gonna talk. Maybe we should find one that looks more like it’s got the ability to speak than just making annoying nails on chalkboard screeching?”

The hybrid looked over his shoulder with a glare and looking down at the small bump the woman was holding he growls softly. Only thinking of his own daughter, the attacks on Hayley while she was carrying their daughter. “I don’t discriminate.” He answers looking back at the creature realizing however that the wolf might be at least right about going to the next, this creature certainly didn’t look like one that could speak in anyway that Klaus would understand. With one sudden annoyed groan he grabbed the creatures head and with a quick jerk of his hands the things neck was broken and the body hung limp from the wall. “You should be getting to the hovel that they are shoving everyone.”
