The War Within Decades : Israeli-Palestinian Conflict
The Palestinian militant group Hamas recently launched an assault on Israel on Saturday, October 7, 2023, with hundreds of gunmen shooting near the Gaza Strip. Based on BBC News, at least 1,300 Israelis have been killed, while some of civilians including children was held in Gaza as hostages, and it also has been said that more than 1,300 Palestinians have also been killed in numerous air strikes on Gaza that Israel's military is carrying out in response, and Israel has imposed a total blockade on the territory, denying some essentials too for Israeli.
The conflict existed long before the current war began. Jewish people once resided in what is now Israel and Palestine as members of the two kingdoms of Israel and Judah, according to RTE News. Jews refer to it as their old ancestral for this reason. But during the following 1,000 years, Jews were driven from the area and sent into exile as a result of numerous conquests and wars. Theodor Herzl, a Jewish journalist and political activist, wrote their Judenstaat in 1896, thousands of years later. Persecution and anti-Semitism were projected.
However, Jews declared the creation of the State of Israel in 1948, propelled by the rise in Jewish immigration following World War II. Palestinians numbering over 700,000 were either driven out or fled in terror. They lost their land, houses, and way of life. But then, just 22% of what was British controlled Palestine was still outside the borders of Israel after two years of conflict in 1949. The West Bank and Gaza Strip are made up of that 22%.
Until Israel's soldiers invaded and conquered Gaza and the West Bank during the Six-Day War in 1967, those internationally recognized borders remained in place. And that is precisely why it is known as the Occupied West Bank and why many nations, including Ireland, advocate for a return to the borders that existed prior to 1967. Israel has launched military raids and increased Jewish settlements in the West Bank despite these appeals, particularly in regions that are regarded as having biblical significance.
Under Israel's current far-right and ultra-nationalist administration, that has significantly gotten worse. Tensions have also increased as a result of Israeli incursions on the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, the third holiest site in Islam. Furthermore, there is no longer any consensus or there's no longer any agreement about what that would mean among Palestinians as to what the so-called two-state solution, which many now support, actually entails. A land, air, and sea siege by Israel has resulted in appalling living conditions for 2 million Palestinians in Gaza since 2005.
Currently, Gaza Strip is ruled by the militant Islamic group Hamas, which also opposes Israel's right to exist and is in favor of driving out all Jews from the region. And after heavily armed Hamas militants entered the area and massacred over 260 people, thousands of attendees of the Israel-based Supernova Music Festival left. Supernova Music Festival is an event gathering of people from all over the world that stood for unity. One of the first locations Palestinian gunmen struck on October 7, 2023, after breaching the border fence dividing Gaza, was the Supernova Music Festival.
Dor Kafach, a victim of the attack, provided a description of how the Israeli Supernova event was attacked by Hamas. He described the terrifying event in Israel to James Longman of ABC News, describing how he saw his friends "falling" and "RPGs flying" behind him as he ran for safety. Based on www.TheGuardian.com, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu openly admitted that Israel and Palestine were at war and that Palestine will suffer the consequences, according to The Guardian.com.
Israel had some benefits as the conflict between the two nations rages on. In the Middle East, Israel and Palestine share the territory west of the Jordan River. While the majority-Jewish State is Israel, the majority-Muslim and Arab populations of Gaza and the West Bank are Palestinian. Israel boasts one of the most advanced armies in the world, complete with a nuclear arsenal. Palestinians, on the other hand, don't have a lot of means of self-defense because they don't have a true state or standing army. However, it appears that these two nations genuinely care about their heritage and national pride.
Supernova music festival is really widely known for inspiring unity and love, tolerance and inclusion. This festival was an event representing unity and had people from all over the world. No other genre of music has the effect does, Not even close. The fact the starting point of war happened at an event like that is absolutely tragic as it would be in any scenario but the memories that should be fun, turned into the worst time of people in there. Peace will always be more than the absence of war, let’s always look for a positive solution and always remember the words of Mahatma Gandhi, “I appeal for cessation of hostilities, not because you are too exhausted to fight, but because war is bad in essence.”
