Sometimes I think about how Astarion in the game on many occasions has confirmed that every person's blood smells different and he can easily delineate it all. If you let him lead in the Yurgir's room he gets overwhelmed by all the different kinds of massive amounts of blood. He can also smell if it's fresh or stale and gets bothered if it's a mix of both.

And how it's his very first priority to comment on it out loud.
