I open Choices for the first time in a hundred years. I think the art looks off. I go to tumblr. Tumblr informs me we’re in the Choices AI era.
oh :(

Every time I open choices there are new stories I am SO behind
Also I was originally playing Kiss of Death as a diamond mine just because mob stories in general don’t really interest me—nothing about this one in particular put me off, it’s just not my genre—but the chapter I just finished left off on a cliffhanger so now I am kind of interested and I have to be thrifty with my keys booooooo

I was just scrolling through this blog looking for something from a long time ago and I did not find it, but one thing I did notice was that in some tags I was awfully negative about Lovestruck stories, and even in cases where I was doing so jokingly, I think the negativity came out more strongly than the fun and whimsy of the joke. And that doesn’t seem very nice!
I haven’t opened up Choices in a while (what a pain when things get in the way of reading my little stories!) but I think I’d like to try being more positive than negative with my posting. Now, there are some difficulties with that: I think overall quality of a lot of the stories has dropped off, and I’m in the middle of a ton of stories. But probably what I should do is just quietly finish up any that are diamond mines and focus on being excited for the ones that I enjoy.
Will this work? Who knows. Not I!

So far, Ship of Dreams is one of those stories where I would have done so many things differently. And honestly, the big ones are mainly because it turns out I just prefer a slower pace! So it’s fine that the story isn’t for me. But I’m still going to go into the chief among the things I would have done differently under the cut:
Listen. I am absolutely BOGGLED that Adele and Violet were just, what, screwing around in Europe for fun? Without attempting to accomplish any of their goals? Was there a line of dialogue I skipped? It surely wouldn’t change the story that much if they left the US knowing that they’re broke and with a goal of finding Violet a husband. Instead of this absolutely bonkers tale of “We’re getting on a boat to New York and you need to be engaged by the time we arrive,” plenty of urgency could be given by saying, “We had no luck finding you a husband on the Continent so this is our last chance to return home triumphant.” Stakes still high, timeline still compressed, true love still a stokerporter who never works.
Okay that’s all I just wanted to say for now. There are other things I would have done differently but I would then just be writing a story to suit me exactly; I simply find the “find a man on the Titanic specifically and fuck around in France first without working on that” plan to be a baffling one
and if I did miss dialogue that makes me sound silly I would love a clarification I would love to be silly!

At some point—I presume in December—I had started replaying Home for the Holidays. Now I’m breezing through the remainder with the auto button. This time I didn’t tell Nick his helicopter repairs were done, and he’s SO mad, and I’m just thinking…why was it my responsibility to tell him? (I very much did not read while it was autoplaying before it stopped for me to choose an answer.) Wyatt and Nick should be handling business themselves, not using an unpaid go-between. Get real.

I took an unintentional break from Choices for a while but I am back and I am blasting my way through The Cursed Heart again and also trying to catch up on Blades 2 and finish The Duchess Affair.
I can’t promise any snark, but minimal thoughts so far: The Duchess Affair really is A Bit Much. I’m still early in Blades 2 and having fun.
I have many other books to read but I suspect I’m going start a bunch instead of proceeding in an orderly fashion. I also restarted Home for the Holidays because, you know, the holidays. I still haven’t made much progress in a bunch of recent ones, and there are replays I want to get through…so many goals!

Sometimes I think about how in Havenfall is for Lovers Diego couldn’t season food worth a hill of beans but in Dracula Jonathan got to eat an excellent roast chicken. Being a vampire doesn’t mean you can’t cook. That’s a Diego-specific problem. A skill issue.

I treasure everyone who reads the Pixelberry newsletters or whatever because I do NOT do that. I just find stuff out when it appears in the app

I’m not sure how I feel about First Comes Love so far. I, personally, don’t find the idea of breaking up someone’s relationship in order to get with them appealing, and Rebecca was pretty nice at first, so it was very easy to be nice back to her (especially for free!), but then she cornered the MC in the bathroom and was quite unkind. I was interested in a potential thing where Rebecca knew MC was interested in Blake but they were also both committed to being nice, and a story exploring the tension there, but, well, I guess “Rivalry” as one of the categories covers what the writers decided to do!
I can’t really imagine enjoying two people I like being unkind to each other while competing for my affections, either, so I’m interested to see how Blake reacts to all this. I don’t think it’s a book I’d pick up at a store, but for the people who like these elements, I hope it’s just what they were looking for!
