Let’s welcome Elizabeth Benbat who’s got quite a bit of pride and prejudice. She’s wearing a poke bonnet out of felt (and with all the bonnets I’ve been making lately, I’m tempted to try an actual straw brim one soon–any interest?) and has some lovely chestnut curls.

She’s also got a new feature–safety eyes! In the past I used seed beads, but these will never fall off!

Elizabeth will be up for auction (with friends) at Capricorn 36, happening at Westin Chicago North Shore February 11th-14th at the Art Show.

Continuing with our lovely lady-bats, I present Bat-horel’s Laughing Mistress. Complete with matching trim, her bonnet is based off 1840′s French woven bonnets (Rosalie is, of course, a Paragon of Fashion and Ahead Of Her Time, much like her beau)

This took place in the back room of the Cafe Musain. Nearly all the Friends of the A B C had convened that evening. The argand lamp was solemnly lighted. They talked of one thing and another, without passion and with noise. With the exception of Enjolras and Marius, who held their peace, all were haranguing rather at hap-hazard. Conversations between comrades sometimes are subject to these peaceable tumults. It was a game and an uproar as much as a conversation.

Bossuet was a gay but unlucky fellow. His specialty was not to succeed in anything. As an offset, he laughed at everything.

Otherwise, he was the gayest of them all. All these young, maniacal, puny, merry incoherences lived in harmony together, and the result was an eccentric and agreeable being whom his comrades, who were prodigal of winged consonants, called Jolllly. The Book Club

A little known fact is that the members of the Bad Bonnet Gang also have a book club…

“Ladies, today it’s Battine’s turn to discuss the book.”

“Today’s book is Les Miserables, by a Victor Hugo.”

“God, I hated this book. I died.”

“At least you HAD stuff written about you–I was a footnote!”

“Is anyone else slightly bothered by the paradoxical shenanigans happening here? Not that I’m not happy to see you Mom, but I thought I would remember something like this…”

“Seriously, ladies, let’s get back on track!!”

It does get heated sometimes…

Yeah, I couldn’t find anything else alcoholic, so hand sanitizer it was! It’s…vaguely wine colored, right?

Workmen had brought under their blouses a barrel of powder, a basket containing bottles of vitriol, two or three carnival torches, and a basket filled with fire-pots, “left over from the King’s festival.” This festival was very recent, having taken place on the 1st of May. It was said that these munitions came from a grocer in the Faubourg Saint-Antoine named Pepin. They smashed the only street lantern in the Rue de la Chanvrerie, the lantern corresponding to one in the Rue Saint-Denis, and all the lanterns in the surrounding streets, de Mondetour, du Cygne, des Prêcheurs, and de la Grande and de la Petite-Truanderie.
