How to Work a Cuckoo Wall Clock into Your Home Decor
Not all cuckoo clocks are created equal. There are many differences between the numerous styles of clocks that go far beyond the aesthetic differences, and then there are those to account for on top of that. If you’re thinking about working a Cuckoo Wall Clock into the design of your home, here’s how to do it.
Tumblr media
First, you will need to pick out a room in your home. You’ll need to ask yourself whether you want to place the clock in a sitting or drawing room where it will see company, place it in a place like a kitchen or an office where the value of its ability to keep time and play music will be more valuable to the members of your family or keep it in a private room like a bedroom.
Then you will need to consider the design of the room you have chosen, and the role you want the clock to play in that setting. For example, if you have chosen a public room to serve as the setting for a cuckoo wall clock, you may want to match the themes in your decor with some of the themes of the clock you choose.
Consider the interior design of that room. For a room with classic, old-world furniture or wooden trim, you might want to go with some form of a vintage reproduction clock. Many vintage cuckoo clocks are richly ornamented reproductions of models that were popular in Europe during the baroque period and are ornately decorated with patterns and other motifs. Many of them would make quite an illustrious match for a number of very nobly arrayed settings. At the same time, a Chalet style clock might be in order for a setting like this, as there is something about the spirit of many Chalet style clocks that, though they often show scenes of revelry, are very distinguished in their character.
On the other hand, if your chosen setting is decorated with ornaments or other decor that is more natural or celebrates the influences of rural scenes, then a hand-carved traditional clock might be more to your liking. Though they still often have the same beautiful dark finishes of many vintage reproductions, they are undoubtedly more ‘wild’ in their nature.
Then of course you have modern clocks, which might be well suited to a setting that didn’t have the same old world decoration as some of the previous hypothetical settings. Many examples of Cube, Diamond, and Birdhouse themed modern cuckoo clocks are fine for these types of settings.
If you haven’t quite decided on the type of cuckoo wall clock you want to add to your interior design, then you should definitely check out Bavarian Clockworks, where you will find a wealth of different options for you to choose from. Not only will you find a rich catalog of different pieces representing these aforementioned styles in their online store, but you will be pleased to see them listed at some of the lowest prices around. Appropriate Settings for a German Black Forest Cuckoo Clock
If you have always enjoyed some of the old world appeal that a German Black Forest Cuckoo Clock brings with it, then you will be happy to know that there are many settings in your home where you can proudly display one. What’s even better than this is the fact that there are many styles of German cuckoo clocks that are ideal for many different settings within the many different rooms in your home. This goes beyond the classic style of a traditional or hunter clock because there are many different other styles of clocks that will work in situations less fitted for others.
Tumblr media
As an example, consider the character of your sitting room, living room, or family room. Whatever you call it, a parlor, a drawing-room, or one of the previous appellations, anywhere in your home that regularly sees company is a great place to put up a magnetic fixture like a German Black Forest cuckoo clock. Let the hypothetical example suppose that your common area makes artful use of rich, dark wood furniture elegantly carved or designed in a baroque or Georgian style. In that event, there are many vintage reproduction cuckoo clocks that would make a fine match for the setting. The same could be said if that common area was lavishly decorated with paintings, portraiture, or other wall decor.
Even taking a more modest approach you will find that the same room, ornamented differently would be a fine home for a different style of cuckoo clock like a traditional cuckoo clock. If your common area was decorated with dark wood and demur furnishings instead or rococo designs, you could make it a home for a simpler example of a traditional cuckoo clock celebrating more natural and rustic themes.
Switching gears, now consider that your home has neither a rustic feel nor an old-world air but rather is decorated in contemporary fashion. In that event, you’ll be pleased to hear that there are many shield clocks and modern cuckoo clocks for sale that will grace the decor perfectly. Many among them are Authentic German Black Forest clocks that have a mechanical movement, but for those who appreciate convenience and affordability, there’s no shortage of quartz cuckoo clocks in the mix. Even in a sparsely decorated kitchen or a very postmodern sitting room, you may find that the charm of a simple, modern, yet colorful cuckoo clock will add to the setting in more ways than one.
To find many examples of these styles of cuckoo clocks, including mechanical cuckoo clocks and musical clocks along with other styles, visit Bavarian Clockworks. There you will find a rich catalog of examples from these categories along with Chalet Style clocks showcasing German beer gardens, Railroad House clocks, and much more. If you want to see what’s out there and how you can make a match for your home, visit Bavarian Clockworks today, but don’t go it alone. Call their customer service team at 800-950-6753 and they’ll be more than glad to help you find the perfect match.

Settling on a Modern Cuckoo Clock
The Black Forest Clock Association sets some very rigid prescriptions for what qualifies as an Authentic Black Forest Clock and thus can receive a certificate of authenticity. Authentic Cuckoo Clocks, pursuant to the standards of the Black Forest Clock Association, must be produced in the Black Forest Region of Germany. In order to qualify for certification, each clock’s case must be made entirely from wood, while the gears and some internals must be made from brass and assembled by hand.
Tumblr media
Two of the most common styles of cuckoo clocks are Traditional or Hunter Cuckoo Clocks and Chalet style clocks and many of the more popular representations of Black Forest clocks that you will find will fall into one of these categories. Even so, there is a rich world of style that one can find among Cuckoo Clocks, some of which capitalize on modern design. Interestingly enough, there are many fine examples that you will find in modern cuckoo clocks that can fill a niche in modern design.
If your home or rooms within it are laid out in a modern or postmodern design, even going so far as to incorporate elements of brutalism or minimalism, a modern cuckoo clock may be a great fit. Many modern cuckoo clocks are less intricate than many traditional styles of cuckoo clocks. Where in a traditional style or a Chalet style clock you will almost certainly find detailed carvings of rural and civil themes, in a modern clock you will find influences reminiscent of cubism and minimalism. Some modern clock cases are styled like birdhouses and others are brightly painted setting aside the intricacy of traditional carved clocks. Some other examples of modern clocks, known as modern carved clocks, are more recognizable by the stylistic representations of rural scenes.
These are only a sampling of the modern cuckoo clocks styles that are available, offering plenty of flexibility when it comes to setting up your interior design. It is also important to remember that many of them are handmade in the Black Forest region of Germany and thus quality for VdS Certification. At the same time, some modern cuckoo clocks are battery powered utilizing a quartz movement for convenient operation, though they do not qualify for VdS Certification. In many ways, modern clocks give you the greatest amount of design flexibility, since there are many different styles and movements available.
If you’re looking for a modern cuckoo clock or interested in checking out some of the available styles, check out Bavarian Clockworks at www.bavarianclockworks.com/. There you will not only find a broad range of modern clocks but many different authentic traditional and Chalet style clocks as well. Just as impressive as their catalog of cuckoo clocks is their level of service - for more information, you can give them a call directly at 800-950-6753.

Interested in a Vintage Cuckoo Clock?
There are many different styles and types of cuckoo clocks out there, and some of the differences are not entirely aesthetic. In addition to differences in the length of time that a clock will keep time before needing to be rewound, there are differences in the construction of clocks.
For example, the earliest Black Forest cuckoo clocks were made entirely out of wood. That is, not only the case and face and hands were made from finely and keenly carved wood, but the entire internal movement. Even the gears and other internal works of the earliest Cuckoo Clocks were made entirely of wood as well.
Tumblr media
As you can imagine, although wood is a beautiful and still practical material, there are other materials that might make a more fitting medium for the mechanical movements of a clock. As a result, today, the Verein die Shwarzwalduhr permits the internal movement of a clock to be made from hard brass instead of wood. These hard brass internal components are more durable than even the hardest grades of wood and can be very precise, accurate, and reliable. Even so, the VdS still requires the entire clock, including the internals, to be made by hand, and the case must still be made of wood by hand in the Black Forest region of Germany.
As stated, the first clocks were made entirely out of wood. As the art of clockmaking became more refined and complex, the design of the finished clocks responded in kind. Over the years, clockmakers began to embellish the designs of their clocks with highly ornate features and fine details.
In keeping with the development of artistic tastes throughout the whole of Europe at the time, Cuckoo clocks that were produced in the 18th and 19th centuries began to reflect some of the Baroque themes and designs that were prevalent in art only slightly earlier. The Baroque school or art and the Rococo school that followed were typified by contrast, extremely fine detail, and movement, and those influences can be seen in some of the clocks that were produced during the subsequent years.
Today, the term vintage cuckoo clock is applied to clocks that represent reproductions of these styles that were popular so many years ago. Due to their decorative style and intricate detailing, they are very popular styles of cuckoo clocks that people use to decorate their homes and other gathering places.
If you are on the trail of a vintage cuckoo clock to put the final florid touch on a room in your home, then you can find many illustrious examples of vintage cuckoo clocks at Bavarian Clockworks on their website, BavarianClockworks.com. Among their catalog, you can also find traditional and chalet-style cuckoo clocks, as well as modern cuckoo clocks and other styles in the mix.
