I really really feel like I shouldnt have to say this in 2024 to a bunch of sane adults BUT it is not appropriate in any way to make jokes about peoples appearances, especially when they do not know you.

It is especially inappropriate to go up to a black person and make fun of their hair. There are places in the world where black people are still fighting to wear their natural hair (including my country), are treated as unkempt, unprofessional, criminal, or dirty for having this hair. To go up to a stranger and make fun of this hair that so many black people put pride into is offensive, worthy of criticism, and racially charged (regardless of intention)

Racism is NOT just lynch mobs, slurs, and slavery. That line of thinking is dangerous and out of line with the reality of living as a black person.

It was NOT the responsibility of the victim to simply have a thicker skin and ignore the treatment they were receiving. It was up to Gato to hold her moderator accountable for her behavior and treatment of server members.

You need me to explain how its racist that she, a white woman talking to a distraught black person, declared that she did not deem the incident racist enough and that she was "sick of hearing about it" because her friend didnt say it to be hateful (implying not only there was an incident but that the victim has brought this up more than once) ?

my opinion in this situation is as follows: Gato as a person who works day and night, and specially appointed moderators for order, of course should control this process, but she as a person - all of us in this story are not talking about the fact that she is a person, just a human - she can be tired and unable to respond in a community-appropriate manner, but that does not make her a supporter of racism

What makes her a supporter of racism was throwing a tantrum and lashing out at a black server member when they gathered the courage to speak up against a moderator that was hurting them.

Its not difficult to condemn racism. She is a human being that chose to help violate the humanity of another person just to defend her friend and that is not something we should be making excuses for.

Oh I'm sorry that I didn't mention this part. tell u what i think, this was a really strange reaction from Gato- At least she apologized in the end. I don’t know, maybe she could have reacted this way because she didn’t understand the situation? I won’t justify it in any way here in any case - let people choose what to think about her. It’s just that this reaction of hers contradicts a lot of things that she did before. But thank u for ur opinion!

Gatobob never apologized to the victim. In the now deleted statement, she apologized for her choice to close the discord server, but never once has she acknowledged the victim outside of accusing them of "exasperating the issue as much as possible" by showing the rest of the community what was said to them.

Gato is considered a racist because this is how she reacted to finding out a friend and moderator had been bullying a black server member about their natural hair and country theyre from.

Please note the mod in question (melonba11s) has admitted to making fun of this persons hair in her public apology and calling them a "blob monster"

the "profuse apology" was the moderator going "hewwo i have filter issues my bad" gato knew this and still chose to defend it. All of the screenshots are at @gatobob or @renhanasgf on twitter. The victim posted everything that was sent to them in a big thread, including what they said (not that i think they said anything to deserve it)

4. Is Gato racist?

Eh, let's start from the very beginning of her work - This rumor started because of an art of Strade in a German uniform with a red ribbon, which was drawn at the request of one of Gato's subscribers - Eh, let's start with the fact that the first thing was a request from another person and not Gatobob’s own whim, Second Gato apologized for this art and third there are people who love black humor, but it was not used by Gato, but I’m just reminding you of this!

The second thing that made others think that Gato is a racist is because Strade is a dark man with no last name... In fact, it’s quite difficult to come up with a surname for his name, this is understandable, but still some people think the reason is the color of Strade’s skin - but if this were so then why do other Gato characters with different nationalities, skin color and appearance have surnames? - Again, the reason Strade doesn't have his last name is because of how complicated his name is.

And in the end, taking the past again, Gato had a good relationship with Pyke who had a different nationality from Gato - but they had a naturally close friendship - (until one moment of course). And even if we take the real ones, Gato has friends of other nations.

So. Keep yourself safe and be good!
