i was thinking again about just how different kris’s feelings towards susie and noelle are so i tried to make a diagram

one is a picture of temporary happiness. kris’s and susie’s relationship is joyous but short-lived (assuming the story goes in the direction of susie feeling betrayed by kris working for the other side). kris going Live Fast Die Young mode to just have as much fun with susie while they can. before things arent able to go back to the way they were before.

in the other case, everything has already happened. kris crushes their own feelings underfoot, feeling as though they’d be selfish and unworthy to ever think of noelle as anything more than a friend — or maybe even just “friend” is pushing it. they fight and claw to not let their feelings consume them, only to watch as a third party (sometimes) commits everything that they never wanted to happen. maybe the only way they can truly return to how things were before is to delude themselves beyond recognition and discard the rest of the world together
