Hoi!! I saw a little bit of the process on your Instagram, but could you explain how you go about making a pattern? I absolutely love how that neato cactus/desert one you did turned out!
Alrighty!
So to make a repeating pattern:
Tumblr media
1. Open a canvas and draw in the center WITHOUT touching any of the edges.
Tumblr media
2. [Below: Light cyan lines] Divide your canvas into four equal parts.
Make four guides framing the canvas, and two across the middle.
For the ones in the middle, View > New Guide > Horizontal or Vertical for needed orientation > type in 50% to get the exact middle of your canvas. These are photoshop shortcuts, may be different on your programs.
Tumblr media
3. [Above: Yellow arrows] Make sureyou have ‘Snap’ checked under View > Snap, then select each quarter of your piece > layer via cut > move diagonally to the other side.
After you’re done moving things diagonally, you can either turn off Snap so your doodling won’t stick to the center lines, or toggle the guide visibility off (Ctrl+;). Merge the layers back together.
Tumblr media
4. Draw in the middle without touching the borders, color the entire thing if you plan on doing that.
Tumblr media
5. Setting your image as a pattern After your image is done, merge all layers into one > select the entire canvas (Ctrl+A) > Edit > Define Pattern
Open a new canvas bigger than the one you made the pattern on, and paint bucket it in! (Instead of the Foreground button at the top when paint bucket is active, select Pattern then your pattern)
If you aren’t using a program that lets you define patterns, merge everything into one layer and duplicate & tile them manually.
Tumblr media
Cheers!

Wanna do direct action but you can’t run, can’t fight, can’t deal with stress, can’t risk getting arrested? Not near a community to support? You can still do something.
Like write to prisoners.
Prisons try to disappear people, isolate them, crush them. Don’t let that happen.
Write to activists in prison, write to trans people in prison, write to isolated prisoners, write to prisoners who no one else thinks are worth writing to.
Write to prisoners.

How to Make a Facade with Recycled Materials
With the aim of supporting architects to become active agents of sustainable design, this week we present a selection of facades that incorporate different recycled materials. Beyond the typical uses of plastic and glass, in this article, you will find innovative materials such as mattress springs, ice cream containers, plastic chairs, and recycled waste from agricultural and industrial products. A look at remarkable projects using recycled materials to create an attractive facade.
Identified from the top:
Gallery of Furniture CHYBIK+KRISTOF, recycled plastic seats
Ningbo Historic Museum Wang Shu Amateur Architecture Studio, recycled tiles
Naju Art Museum Hyunje Joo, recycled semi-transparent plastic baskets
Bima Microlibrary SHAU Bandung, recycled plastic ice cream containers
Vegan House Block Architects, recycled windows
China Academy of Arts’ Folk Art Museum Kengo Kuma & Associates, recycled tiles from local houses
Kamikatz Public House Hiroshi Nakamura & NAP, recycled windows from abandoned houses
Luxury Pavilion Fahed + Architects, recycled bedsprings
Backyard Cabin Emerging Objects, recycled agricultural and industrial waste products
The Beehive Luigi Rosselli + Raffaello Rosselli, recycled terracotta roof tiles
For more information about each project follow the source link.

For artists who have problems with perspective (furniture etc.) in indoor scenes like me - there’s an online programm called roomsketcher where you can design a house/roon and snap pictures of it using different perspectives.
It’s got an almost endless range of furniture, doors, windows, stairs etc and is easy to use. In addition to that, you don’t have to install anything and if you create an account (which is free) you can save and return to your houses.
Examples (all done by me):

Here’s an example for how you can use it

Attention ALL artists!
You sure have seen this post. It has spread like wildfire over the past few days so I doubt there is any artist out there who hasn’t seen it. But even if you didn’t, you should read on because I’m about to tell you a handy little thing that can help you to protect your art from such assholes as the anon who submitted this bullcrap, as well as art thieves in general.
The magic word is Metadata.
Metadata is like an invisible signature that is embeded into a file. It can contain all kinds of information, like Title, date, keywords for online seach engines, and copyright information. And the best thing is, since this information is “hidden” in the code of your picture, it’s hard to remove it.
There is a nice basic tutorial on how to add Metadata, or “additional file information” to your images in photoshop. It’s really, really easy so check it out!
“Adding Your Contact And Copyright Info To Your Photos With Photoshop” on PhotoshopEssentials.com
I’m not sure if you can do the same with any other art program. If you know how to do this in other programs / can confirm that it works the same way there, please tell me so I can add the information to this post.
Adding the Metadata will not stop idiots from taking and reposting your art. It also won’t make them stop editing out your signature. It WILL however, help you prove that you are the original artist whenever you have to. Always remember my friends. You, the artist, are protected by law. No one has the right to take your intellectual property and hard work and repost, use or edit it without your permission. Ever.
