Assignment 2:Artist Statement for Web Arts Artefact
Automated art means that if you carefully observe what artists and scientists do with computers, it is to give computer autonomy, design certain rules to let them play freely, and get results that cannot be copied and beautiful. The detailed definition of the art of generation is through the computer, the combination of nature and labor, randomness and planning unity is realized, and it is expected to realize large-scale personalized production, planned random operation and non-designated simulation process. In this process, the designer only needs to set the formula of the generated art algorithm and then hand it to the computer for processing. However, the characteristics of this algorithm are: the result of the last generation is unpredictable by the designer, and the time of the same algorithm is not The results produced by the segment operation are also different and have strong randomness. New York University's Philip Galanter explains: “Artists use computer programs, or a series of natural language rules, or a machine, or other invention, to produce a process of self-control, the direct or indirect result of which is a complete artwork".
And I am very fascinated by the lines and patterns that are automatically generated by computers. I feel very interesting and beautiful. This is the line aesthetics.
A movie that makes me memorable is a 1968 film called "Experiments in Motion Graphics”(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdRE8q5TBJ0),it is an amazing video of some vintage generative computer art by a man named John Whitney ,and in this video he explains a little bit about his process how he uses polar coordinate equations to generate these amazing line animations very fluid looking animations ,and I thought it would be fun to try to replicate that effect using modern tools , so I attempt to imitate Whitney's art style using Processing. Learn about Processing, parametric equations, and how to use sinusoidal functions in generative art.
In this video John Whitney said“This is one kind of action that I have been exploring asymmetrical not center oriented a fluid kind of motion that is not stuck in one place this motion is multiplex no static elements except when it comes to rest it has a path in space which is approximately a trajectory I call it a linear figure.”What John Whitney explores is exactly what I want to explore.
Before I made this work, I learned some tutorials on processing on the Internet, understanding the processing, parametric equations, and how to use sine functions in the art of generation. I watched a lot of videos and also consulted some Chinese teachers. First of all, I made a point in the processing, through the learning of the function, determine the motion track, and then turn the point into a line, add color. This work was finally completed. I think the images that are randomly composed by the movement of some lines are very interesting.

Session 7 Awkward Narcissism: Social Media Aesthetics in an Age of Trolls
Social media refers to a content production and exchange platform based on user relationships on the Internet.
Art imitates life, life imitates art. As the social media feels stronger, we are beginning to realize that the virtual world will change the way we experience culture.
3 example of social media
1.In the city, the uniform exterior walls make people feel bored. Fortunately, British artist Camille Walala thinks so too. As a result, Walala applied the bold colors to the geometric patterns of her designs, turning the buildings in Brooklyn Industrial City into “secondary elements”, adding a touch of color to this dull city.

2.The large-scale art installation of 2018 has been applied to the mirror effect. The curved mirrors are arranged in a combination of the Renaissance Italian courtyard and named "Open Sky", designed to blend in with the surrounding, including the sky.

3.The Argentine artist Leandro erlich created a large art installation called “sous le ciel (under the sky)” for Le Bon Festival in Paris. This art installation tells you that salt and pepper cakes are not just for eating, it will also make you lost in the mall.

Session 6 Task 1 YOUKU v YouTube
Video is still a part of our life, and the number of users of each video platform is growing rapidly.
In July 2018, YouTube released new growth, with monthly active users surpassing 1.9 billion and user interaction increasing by 60%. In contrast, youku has recently had little news related to the company itself and no longer emphasizes any data.
I compare Youku and YouTube in several ways:
1. Look at the channel settings
Youku has dozens of channels, and the top ones are TV series, movies, and variety shows, which account for most of the traffic.
YouTube is only popular nowadays, divided into music, news, games, live broadcasts, and these are automatically generated. As for TV dramas, movies, and variety shows, it is basically uploaded by individuals or TV stations, not paid uploads. But most of the traffic comes from individuals or studio creators.
2.Slogan
Youtube :Broadcast Yourself;youku: This world is cool. I think YouTube's slogan goes deeper, because video is part of life, and youku's slogan doesn't mean it.
3.Search
Because of the above settings, most people are passively recommended to watch after entering Youku.
Searching must be done on YouTube, which also makes the viewing behavior more active, and because the search tends to have a strong practical purpose, the title is often a declarative or rhetorical question with the keyword of the video as the subject.
4.Membership policy
Youku has a paid membership system, mainly to skip advertising and watch some member content.
YouTube does not have this setting until the end.
5.Look at the advertisement
Youku ads range from 5 seconds to 2 minutes, sometimes you don't want to watch them.
Currently, YOUTUBE has a 5 second forced advertisement, but the legend has to be cancelled, which makes it experience very well.
6.From the content
In addition to the traditional content purchased by Youku, a small number of personal and studio content is dominated by games and funny videos.
The YOUTUBE theme covers a wide range and can satisfy more long-tail users.
7.From the creator
The real production content on Youku is still porters, and most foreign videos are basically.
In addition to individual creators, YOUTUBE has poured into a large number of media, government, enterprises, schools and other institutions.
Because one inside the wall is outside the wall, youku and YouTube are still very different, youku is for Chinese users, and YouTube is shared by all kinds of people around the world on this website, and the natural content is more abundant.

Session 6 Online Video and Transmedia Storytelling
Cross-media communication refers to the distribution and interaction of information between different media. It has at least two meanings: one is the cross-distribution and integration of mutual information between different media. The second is the cooperation, symbiosis, interaction and coordination between the media.

2.Heart Print Universe 2.0 (Science Fiction VR Series)

Session 5 Networked Civil Disobedience: Hacktivism with Special Guest Heath Bunting
Tactical media is a term coined in 1996,to denote a form of media activism that privileges temporary, hit-and-run interventions in the media sphere over the creation of permanent and alternative media outlets. Tactical media describes interventionist media art practices that engage and critique the dominant political and economic order.
Tactical media projects are often a mix between art and activism, which explains why many of its roots can be traced to various art movements. It has been suggested by tactical media theorist Geert Lovink that "discourse plus art equals spectacle",[10] reflecting its striking and memorable nature. Although there are no strict mediums through which it operates, tactical media can often have very high aesthetic value, adding to its "spectacle" and reinforcing some of its artistic roots.
3 example of TacticalMedia

Disruption Network Lab is an ongoing platform of events and research focused on art, hacktivism and disruption. The Laboratory takes shape through series of conference events at Studio 1, Kunstquartier Bethanien in Berlin, and at other local and international venues.
2.The Yes Men
The Yes Men are an organization who mimic their subject through certain media: examples include counterfeiting sites and creating fake videos. They will mimic their criticized subject, designed to fool the general public into believing their alternate identity. Examples of organizations and corporations that The Yes Men have successfully impersonated (and criticized) are Dow Chemicals, ExxonMobil, McDonald's, World Trade Organization, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), The New York Times and Heritage.
3.V for Vendetta
This film tells the story of the future British society under the pressure of totalitarian rule, and the people are lingering under the dark regime. V inherited the mission of the former revolutionary hero. In order to overthrow the ruthless ruling class, he established a mysterious underground organization, destroyed the iconic buildings of London, and ignited the anti-government raging fire. I think this is also a manifestation of tactical media.
