do you have any ideas why midoriya has such good morals and is naturally the epitome of being a hero? based on the way horikoshi wants the reader to perceive the mha world, it’s hard for me to imagine that he’s such an innocent, wanting to do good cinnamon roll without some ~nefarious~ outside influence. any thoughts, would love to hear!

... Well, that’s pretty simple and I think you already suspect it: he’s not innocent. At all.

Fanon tends to make Izuku as a soft boy who loves everyone and everything when he’s really not. Look at his face when he fights.

Does this look like the face of the innocence to you? Or does that look like of someone who has a lot of repressed rage?

Add to that how he has shown time and time again he was willing to use lethal force against villains and that his first words in the manga are “People are not born equal.” and I think we can agree that he isn’t the stereotypical good guy who loves everyone.

Izuku starts the story as a quirkless child in a society where everyone has a power and he was horribly bullied for it, for at least ten years.

Now, you’re asking me why he has such good morals? Why he is a hero? It’s a valid question, as I also wondered how he managed to remain good for so long. But the answer is simple: he intimately knows what it feels like to be powerless. No one has ever saved him.

It then makes sense for him to empathise with people who need to be saved.

There is a phrase he said both for Bakugou and Shigaraki: “Your/His eyes were asking for help.”

That’s experience speaking. That’s something he lived. Because he knows what it feels like. So, if he has the ability (and I am not talking about a quirk) to help, how can he not to his best to save someone?

You don’t need pain to be a good person but pain does make you aware of more things.
