Based out of Paris, France, beat maker Onra has amassed a heavy amount of high quality material in since the early 2000's. His first solo full length album "Chinoiseries" uses samples from old Vietnamese records (his ethnic background), bought in old music shops directly from Vietnam. With tracks like "The Anthem" and "Relax in Mui Ne", a traditional Vietnamese sound is clearly evident. Unfortunately, Chinoiseries is old news dating back to 2007, so if you haven't picked that up by now, I strongly suggest you do. His latest album, dropped on the 15th of this month (November) "Chinoiseries Part II" pushes a similar far coastal aesthetic. The following is a trailer for his new album, including a new track towards the end of the video called "Fight or Die".

Okay, so we've got Blu, UGOD and Flying Lotus - all on one track for your aural enjoyment. Blu being a blip on the new school hip hop radar, he is most notable for his collaberation album with producer 'Exile' - "Below The Heavens". Although he MC's the whole album he is also a killer producer so the dude is well rounded. Then we have UGOD, an old school hip hop contender, whom i'm sure all of you are aware of. If your not, does WU-TANG CLAN ring a bell? Ya he's been with 'em since the start but is also known for some solo shit like his relatively new track 'Dopium'. Last but certainly not least we have FLYLO on the beat. Easily my favorite producer of all time this guy is a BEAST. The brains behind the 'Brainfeeder Collective' he has some of the coolest acts to date in his crew (Teebs, Tokimonsta, Samiyam etc.) and some of the hottest tunes. Could you imagine these 3 heavy hitters together on a track? well, BOOM.

'CulpSp' is yet another artist who has stumped me in the search for background information. All I know is that they are based out of Vancouver, BC (Yuh!). It could be a collaboration of buddies or just a lone ranger producing some wild styles, who knows? But I promise you CulpSp's sounds are enough to send you to the hospital, I mean this shit is pure insanity. Some of the biggest beats I have ever heard PERIOD. The track 'PopoNana' is a massive Nintendo redub that everyone will like. I'm keeping my eye on these guys so i'm sure you will be hearing from them again in a later post. For all those with big sound systems, now is the time to crank it up, but make sure none of the elderly are around, as they will more than likely die after being subjected to these noises.

In an earlier post, we introduced Falcons without gathering much background information, only touching on their breakthrough album 'Indian Summer'. After digging a bit deeper we've discovered that Falcons are a production duo consisting of BC's own 'TightMike' (left, based out of Vancouver,) and Cali's 'KayleoStocko' (right, of Oakland.) Tightmike has a bunch of solo work outside the collabortation - KayleoStocko's on the other hand is rather withdrawn from an online presence. You can check out TightMike's bandcamp here, his "Bobbin'&Weavin" album is not one to overlook. Their website, filled with tons of original content (which we had missed in the first post) can be visited by way of the photo click-thru. We've included two videos below that we're quite fond of, as well as a Ciara remix from Tightmike.
(ps. this video/choreography is so cool)

If you've never heard of eBoy I suggest you give your head a shake. "Godfathers of Pixel", eBoy is a collective of bit artists founded in 1997, taking inspiration from a number of things - including Lego and classic arcade games -  in order to create intricate situations with millions of pixels... jammed into an average frame. SO DOPE. click the chainsaw for the eBoy site, and in the meantime enjoy some 8bit beats by hyperdub signee Quarta 330.

"Pavel Dovgal was born in Vladivostok, Russia, in summer of 1986." This guy pumps out big rhythms as a contributing member of the worldy beat collective Finest Ego, supporting the Project: Mooncircle imprint, I guarantee the success of his future releases so be sure not to sleep on this.  Cheers to slim for the heads up, had to follow up on a segment - I recomend checking out Vol. 1 of the Faces 12" series by FE - featuring aussie Ta-Ku, and his first full length Cassiopeia.

For any of you out there who appreciate the visual arts, I highly recommend you check out the incredible Peter Funch. Being a bit of a photography junkie myself, I can’t help but notice his superb work. His most notable photo series (in my opinion) would have to be ‘Babel Tales’. Keeping his camera on the same frame, he takes multiple shots, photoshopping in the recurring themes, and photoshopping the others out. What is left is a photograph of everybody doing SOMETHING in unison. “Deja Vu” and ‘Danish Diaries’ are 2 other Peter Funch collections that I am very fond of; ‘Deja Vu’ being an aviation spin off of ‘Babel Tales’. Anyways, if you have been listening to what I’ve said with the slightest bit of incline, be sure to click the image for the jump to some grade A snaps.

OL. (Oleg Buyanov, Moscow), an artist with an EP on EB,  fails to specify which genre of music he prefers - instead, he fluently transfers his style over a spectrum of music. Below are a few tracks from his comprehensive amount of online material. Be sure to check out his discography for a thorough look, and click the portrait for Oleg's SoundCloud...

Don't know much about 'FALCONS' besides that it's a collaboration of 2 beat junkies. What I DO know is that this album 'Indian Summer' is off the gawd dayum chain. Will probably be following up on these guys if I find some more golden tunes and info. 'MustBeLuv' 'Falcon Eye' and 'Squeeze' are some personal faves, 'Squeeze' rocking cool bird chirp enviormentals that make for a wicked atmosphere (and that yasby will undoubtedly like). But I mean all these songs still get my head nodding, the whole album is pretty spot on. ANYWAYS, sit back and enjoy some slick songs from the 'FALCONS'.

Earlier this week Klipmode representative Mndsgn. came out with some crisp material - the 5-track Daypass EP -  this Californian's second release in 3 months, the first - his 15 track NoMaps Lp. Focusing on quality over quantity, Daypass comes through with a big feeling... tracks you'll remember the name of kinda thing. AlmostDecent for the soft groove, Post 98 with the choppy vibrations. Klipmode!!

Enter Mary Anne Hobbs. Ex-BBC Radio 1 host, DJ, and world renown electronica enthusiast. This woman has been working in the music industry since the 80's and has been unveiling some amazing artists since. She has a very keen nose when it comes to sniffing out the good jams. Although her roots stem from heavy metal influences, in the early 2000's she was noted for being 'The Dubstep Queen' and was one of very few popular radio hosts sporting the new genre. Over the past decade or so she has been broadening her horizons by getting a lot more involved with some very cool IDM acts. Her third compilation 'Wild Angels' strays from her usual path of in your face bass to a more glitchy hip-hop-esque feel which I am really excited about. Featuring some personal favorites like 'Teebs' 'Mono/Poly' 'Nosaj Thing' (LA IS ON FIRE) and many more, this compilation is sure to have you bobbing your head like a buoy. I've included a few tracks from the album to convince all you doubters out there. enjoy.

California has a knack for manufacturing ambitious musicians, and Insightful is most definitely one of them. Soulection (Joe Kay's Label | Radio-Show | Website) put out a compilation album consisting of some lesser-known underground artists, including Insightful's track "As She Sleeps" which provoked me to do some research. His bandcamp includes a number of releases - streaming on ASL is this summer's "e l e n a" - an elaborate look into synth exploration. At the end of september Insightful also released "Recursive Self", a somewhat jazz-infused twist to his sounds (supported by plenty.) All downloads for under 10 bucks, or a free mediafire link for the poor..

I spend a fair amount of time sifting through a small niche in the internet full of abstract loops and surreal soundscapes, searching for free downloads. Recently I came across InfinitiRock, an 18-year-old New Yorker pushing out an impressive amount of material for his age. I can't say much about him, but what I do know is he's done a tape for Library Catalog Music's bandcamp (streaming here). Created prior to that are his debut  Apeirophobia EP, and 17Years (40 tracks from when the guy was actually 17), both available on his personal bandcamp. Click the Banner for a haul of other great tapes from Libray Catalog Music's bandcamp, some of which I haven't even heard yet, and the icon below for InfinitiRock's page.

Action Bronson reminds me of a Necro/Fat Joe infusion. Between the ruthless lyrical content (not to mention the video) and his extreme weight i’d say that my accusation is not far off. BUT, i gotta give ol’ Bronson more credit than that; the dudes rolled with Ghostface and some other respectable players and can spit hard. Anyways enjoy his single ‘Brunch’ off his album ‘Dr. Lecter’ which dropped last year. Make sure mom and dad aren’t nearby for this one.

Eprom (SF Native), recognized for his eclectic futuristic music dripping with low frequencies, released a few things since I last checked in on him about a year prior. RobotSexTape (endorsed by his fellow Californians) is a mix from September 2010, released shortly before his price-by-choice Bay Area EP. More recently, March 2011 marked the drop of his fantastically eclectic Pipe Dream EP. Image for the bandcamp jump!

New Orleans spits out the quick-witted AdamBomb, responsible for flipping da Doobie Brothers' "What a Fool Believes" - off 1978's "Minute by Minute". Im only familiar with the album because of its infamous sleeve (pictured above). Clip your roach and fade to this...
