Initial sketches for Digital Fabrication
This is my first sketches for my project, a chess box for traveling or playing when there is wind so that the items don't get blown off.
My second design sketch:

I started with my first prototype, I used help from Lynda tutorials as well as some slides from the Digital Fabrication 2019 class.
I have watched some videos on how to start a box, these references are included here:

Digital Fabrication Assessment 1 - Desk lamp
Begin processes was to find an everyday object which I can model, I chose my desk lamp as I saw many design aspects that need improvement. The base was something that I looked into and wanted something that actually was healthy and positive, instead of the boring technology that we use to study.
Tumblr media
I started designing and seeing what the current lamp has, which I can improve on.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then I decided to go with a vase, which will have a positive impact on students who are always either studying, on use in general. The light can help students, the light helps grow plants, and the plant helps improve the students wellbeing, and it's also something the student can look after.
I started on fusion and ended up with my final design

This has holes at the base, for the water to enter, into a bottom base which is a saucer. The owner can take the water out for maintenance.

Project uSys
Over the course of the past couple of weeks, I have changed my stream from Jos (Digital Interactive) to Donnas (Wearable Arts). I think continuing from last semester, I have more interest in wearable arts than the Digital interactive, because I enjoy working in practical pace than technical sides. I have spoken to a few groups that sounded interesting, one which was a person from a different stream (tech for good) which we discussed ideas in which we could create a technical app that involved in allowing users to get precise body size that they can use for online shopping. After speaking with different people and different groups, I came to conclusions in which I will join a group uSys, with 3 other group members (One from my group member in Semester 1).
Usys is a project that Caleb (year 3 BCT) and Sam (year 2 BCT) have worked on from semester 1. Their idea was of interest as they were a diverse group and their idea sounded in relation to what I want to do. Each member has a specific role in the group, my role was the business and marketing side of things, and also implementing my design, cinematic and thinking skills to my role. Usys is competing for the Xchallenge so its something we all are working on. My part this semester is to help provide a social media platform, creating a cinematic video that showcases the use of uSys, researching for marketing and business purposes, and creating a knitted strap for the final product. Alongside these things I will continue to attend group meetings, Xchallenge pitch night, design logo and product designing. I am currently doing a minor in Creative Entrepreneurship, and doing a cohort for Costarters at AUT which upskill me in helping the marketing side of this product. We recently have finished a course in creating a marketing plan. Next steps is working on a presentation for the formative assessment next week.
Reflective statement
This Semester I have joined the group μSys , which is a compressed and updated version of a multimeter, from the project know as The Smart Boys in Semester 1. The tool of the μSys helps primarily the Engineering industries by offering a compatible and new technological pen-like wand.
I have changed my stream from Jos (Digital Interactive) to Donnas (Wearable Arts) in the second week of the Semester. I think continuing from last semester, I have more interest in wearable arts than the Digital interactive, because I enjoy working in practical pace than technical sides. In the beginning I spoke to a few groups that had interesting ideas, one which was a person from a different stream (tech for good) which we discussed ideas in which we could create a technical app that involved in allowing users to get precise body size that they can use for online shopping. After speaking with different people and different groups, I came to conclusions in which I will join a group μSys , with 3 other group members (One from my group member in Semester 1). μSys is a project that Caleb (year 3 BCT) and Sam (year 2 BCT) have worked on from semester 1. Their idea was of interest as they were a diverse group and their idea sounded in relation to what I want to do. Each member has a specific role in the group, my role was the business and marketing side of things, and also implementing my design, cinematic and thinking skills to my role. μSys is competing for the X challenge so it’s something we all are working on. My part this semester is to help provide a social media platform, creating a cinematic video that showcases the use of μSys , researching for marketing and business purposes, and creating a knitted strap for the final product.
The initial idea was a smart-wand using the smartwatch for convenience and aesthetic. We have adjusted that to a wand, a pen like design that is more convenient, carry able and has all the utilities that a multimeter has. I have creating some design prototypes that after each one I adapted to the needs and design elements of the initial design. For example, μSys cannot be simply a pen like shape, as the LCD display requires to be curved which is concerning because manufacturing costs can get higher ("Curved TV vs. Flat Screen TV - Best Guide & Comparison", 2019), as normal LCDs are inexpensive. This way using the flat LCD could be protected and prevented from damage. The 3rd sketch that I did portrays the design of a wand, but also accompanying the flat LCD screen. Now I have to focus on designing a protective plastic over the LCD and creating a sliding mechanism, and to find a way to extend out the wand for use.
The measurements of the handmade prototype is (Length=165mm, Width=24mm, Height back=39mm, Height front=28mm) we estimated that the final prototype would be cut down in terms of sizing. The measurements could be down ¼ of the handmade one, which cuts down the size enormously, so the transition to the pen size structure is much easier.
μSys ( Micro-Systems) is going to be submitted to Kick-starters (2019), which is a video that striving to be entrepreneurs showcase their ideas in hopes of being able to kick-start their businesses. Once our final product is made, we are going to shoot the video for Kickstarter, I have created the storyboard as a starting point to prepare for the video. We are also going to create a social media presence in which we will create brand email and websites.

The emotional triggers of colours
Logo designing is not a simple design skill to have, there are things to research upon such as colours, the name, fonts and size. Our product name is µ-Sys Which means Micro-Systems. This simply comes from our artifacts micro systemic multi meter. The colour palette I want to look into is the colour of Blue, which skews more to the technical and educational industry.
Tumblr media
Blue represents trust, honesty, authority, serenity, intelligent. Using this colour as a logo to represent µ-Sys is the best way to create a starting point in which the values of  µ-Sys is shown
My first Logo design is
Tumblr media
It is a simple grey palette design, which is not rather eye catching, I updated the design, adding colour;

BASK
Overall my experience with this project has been good. From the start, it was something that I wanted to do and work on. I managed to organised our team to go and meet people in the industry that can consult us on how we can develop our ideas. I have called people in the wool industry looking at different materials that we can use for our prototypes. I had left my comfort zone in order to team up with people I wasn’t familiar with so that I collaborated with people with different skill sets and see how we could learn from each other. After prototyping and user testing one after another, the textile lab in AUT was on fire, so we didn’t have access to those facilities, which also meant that we were not able to create any more prototypes through knitting. After each prototype, we wanted to make it better, through the comfort, usability, accessibility and breath ability.
