Also hello it’s been like half a year and my Christmas overlay on my blog is now relevant again. Elektra is well and lily is doing her best. She currently has aspiration pneumonia. Bug now has the full name of Ladybug the Bastard Child and I accidentally foster failed a kitten whom I’ve renamed Rayna Grace

I don’t even work in an e-vet and in the past month I’ve seen two younger (early 20s) girls accidentally kill their 4 week old kittens. Also someone stepped on their Yorkie puppy to death :(

But yeah this is legit. Only been fully qualified/registered for 5 years but I’ve seen… enough.

Why does the worse things happen to the best dogs? Lily is having another chronic bronchitis flare up. Had to take her to work to get her sedated because she wouldn’t stop vomiting foam after coughing and sucking in air. Now she has soft stool from stress and didn’t know she had to go so she went on her bed.

Anyway we’re switching her meds. She’ll be on prednisone for a long long time and hopefully we can find a not so dangerous dose for long time use. If not she gets a very expensive inhaler and hopefully that’ll work.

I’m annoyed that people can have such unproblematic dogs that they don’t care about and this dog is my whole world and I only want the best for her and she gets hit with a chronic illness that makes her immensely stressed and scared.

Two years apart! 🙌 it’s crazy what happens when you’re on a food you’re not allergic to and Apoquel :) she still gets itchy from time to time but she doesn’t chew herself raw anymore

We got to have a snow day! Bug finally got to experience snow. Wasn’t the biggest fan. She also went sled riding!

I had a few unpublished drafts here about Tansy. I didn’t realize I didn’t publish them but she got euthanized several days ago. Just wanted to put that closure here for the sake of recording.

Continuing the trend of my pets going to the vet, my dads dog diesel went in today because he’s having trouble going from a laying down to standing up position on his own. We assumed hip dysplasia.

Got him checked out and his back is starting to fuse together because he’s old, and that coupled with bad back legs from a previous vaccine reaction as a puppy means zero chances of him standing on his own. Also, he has testicular cancer from not being neutered. That’s just a cherry on top. So he’s on The Good Meds now and if they help he will be neutered and live on his life for the rest of the year. If they don’t work we re evaluate and will pretty much euthanize for poor quality of life. He’s an outside dog so we can’t pick him up all day and if he gets stuck in a weird position he’s screwed. Poor guy.

Bug went to the vet and had to get put in the anesthesia box. She got her eyeball checked out, didn’t really find anything problematic. There was a hard eye booger that appeared while it was being lavaged but who knows where that came from. I’m weaning her off her painful eye meds soon and hopefully it’ll get better soon.

Tansy also went in the anesthesia box and got a feeding tube placed today! Soon she can start getting the nutrients she needs. Tonight I have to give sugar water into her veins to keep her going until she can eat tomorrow.

So today one of the doctors at work (the chillest one, we talk about dog sports a lot!) Said she’s probably going to do the canine bithalon this year and I!!! Really want to too!!! I’ve wanted to for sooo long. I can probably rally a few other people to do it too and it could be a whole work thing, we’re closed that day anyway. Only problem is it’s several states away, a 10.5 hour drive minimum. And it’s 4 miles of jumping and swimming and crawling which I’m not the best at. But gloves and knee pads exist. wow I want to... hmm...

I went to get a dog out of a car yesterday for a tech appointment and asked how the dog is doing. Owner said he’s great but he was running around a LOT yesterday. Mentions it may be time for another rabies shot because of it.

Ignore the tree but I really love winter because despite living directly next to Washington DC and other major cities, I’m still far away enough that I can just go on my back porch to let my dogs potty and suddenly there’s Orion in my sky.

Both my old foster kittens got a home and I just got this little girl from a rescue (we had to rescue her from the rescue). I named her Tansy and she’s malnourished and is only a social eater. Also she has a misaligned jaw and grinds her teeth when she chews. I have to feed her several times a day and she’s just. So. Sweet. She’s not a cat at this point, she only wants to bump around a little and lay on a bed. Literally I can place her somewhere and she doesn’t move! Not afraid of dogs. Will make biscuits and purr. 100/10 love her and that’s bad because I’m not allowed to keep anyone and she already has a promised home.
