ENGAGING YOUR AUDIENCE

Upon reading this article, I am satisfied and enlightened. I am convinced that these really are the things that one should consider when you are in the field of digital publishing or just simply want to expand the reach to target readers or audience. These are the things that need to be done for expanding horizon. It appears to me that this is really helpful and I imagine if this article would be read by the struggling digital publisher then it would also really be useful for them.

Just in case I am a social media influencer or a newbie digital publisher, the tips and suggestions that were stated in the article will be my guide for me to become a better publisher. It can help me for the suggestions were explicitly explained and evident. Overall, the best tips that really stamped in my mind are the “be precise, personal in identifying and contacting potential readers” it is really correct because the target audience is one of the main important element. Moreover is the engagement with others that do the same beat, connection is really important in this present time because I believe we are the ones who will basically help one another — just maintain a good relationship with others.

OVERNIGHT SENSATION

It is really fast how things change these days specially in this time of pandemic. There are things and happenings we never thought would be popular and recognized today. It is plainly irrelevant and usual before but not until today because all are stuck at home, finding what could kill their boredom. When we are in the digital world, what do we find interesting? From my perspective, it is the quirky stuff that make me pause and hooked.

In the first video, I think it went viral for the reason that it is really unusual. You are in a hefty game where everyone is thrilled and shouting then there’s this man who is sleeping, of course it will cause an attention. In the digital platform or in any place, it is easy to get attention. I understand it by simply being humorous and peculiar. Another thing is the tip from the article I have read which is about being precise, personal indentifying and contacting potential readers — and will have domino effect.

With the advent of technology, it is really evident that a lot has shifted in the most advanced way. The world is in it’s constant phase of change. With that being said, the way and medium of delivering of news and information of the media practitioners has also changed.

In the webinar last March 12 of Mr. Zhander Cayabyab, I really learned a lot. The ignorant side of my mind has again lighted. Upon listening him, I  just realized how it is really tough for them to do everything with just their communication skills, creativity and most especially their smartphone.  The shift is really swift that they do not have the choice but to adapt.

And with that being said, I realized that we should value more these people who deliver the news and current events that is happening in our day. That behind their news report, it is also their sweat, talent, effort, and lots of courage. Not just a plain story but the effort of everyone behind that. A big recognition should be put to all the amazing media practitioners for their hard work and dedication.

RESPONSIBLE DIGITAL JOURNALISM

In that recent shootout, it became controversial for there are numerous footages and videos that circulated online. The insights and comments of the netizens are really at pinnacle. And with that being stated, as a citizen, I want a comprehensive information with proper context not just a clip or a photo without context.

And with what the journalist did, as a citizen who wants a comprehensive and factual information, it is really helpful. It feeds the curiosity and questions of my mind with that is really happening. But if I am that journalist, I will not do it especially if the incident is at live. It is not simple journalism because it is really crucial. What will I cover during that live incident may cause or give an opponent’s the hint.

ETHICAL SHARING

As a digital content creator, we have the edge with the others who are just “consumers”. And for this reason, in my view, we can do something about it. Basically, we have the capacity to check if the news is just a fake news. We may check if this is from a legitimate source. But with the story in article, celebrities aware or unaware are spreading propagandas with the exchange of money. It is alarming for their followers are greatly influenced by them. But luckily, Rappler made an extensive effort to investigate with this matter. And just like Rappler, we may not have the big capacity like they have, yet, we can make small helps to produce big changes.

As a responsible and active social media user or consumer, we can simply tell our family members and friends how to consume properly the news that we frequently see online. As a person with more familiarity with this field, we should share this knowledge with them because trolls and propaganda online are now really rampant. We should encourage them not to believe in an article that is circulating online right away. The verification should always be done. Not everything that can be seen online is true. As I have stated earlier, in this present time where fake news and trolls are rampant, even the pages of celebrities and influencers we follow, is not also enough to be our source of information. Good source of information will always be the verified accounts of big media companies. Hence, reading comprehension is also a must. Reading the headline is not enough for it is misleading most of the time, the whole article should be read.

DEVELOPING MY PAGE

With the current pandemic we are experiencing right now, it was undeniable that the lives of many specially the people in the line of poverty were and still greatly affected. I can not just ignore this reality while I am enjoying the comfort I have every second in our home. This pandemic that we are experiencing right now in our country is a no joke. It is evident that because of pandemic, it has been a chaotic phase. Shortcomings and poor preparedness were also exposed specifically in the field of healthcare. And who is again greatly affected? The marginalized which are the most vulnerable.

So as a result, they are demanding an assistance and financial aid from the government because they do not have the capacity to work and feed their families. They will die because of hunger. They need the help of the government. Which became another issue.  People from higher social classes react on how the poor demand help from the government ; not everyone understands this social issue.And having this issues stated, it just make me feel worse coping up in this pandemic. It has been a hard time since the start but majority are still apathetic with the others.

For the children and their families living in poverty, staying at home and access to medical care can be difficult. They need to do labor to sustain their needs for a day. This means that during this pandemic specifically when the restrictions were all high, the marginalized are unevenly affected and among the most vulnerable. Most families living in poverty lack the resources to stockpile their food and essentials, requiring the women and children to frequently visit markets. They got nowhere to go to. They got no one to rely on. And I believe it is the government’s responsibility to take care of it’s citizen’s welfare.

Unfortunately, not all can understand it. For some, they understood the grief of the people under poverty. Maybe because helping the needy is in their culture. They grew up in the idea of understanding every circumstances and will help to minimize the problem and not just ignoring them. They embrace and show empathy on people. They value the idea of support and help. They grew up in promoting the idea that it is not the less-fortunate-people’s fault to born without wealth unlike others ;that they are just being deprived. What they need is good education and other means to improve their lives rather than blaming them from being helpless.

On the other hand, even though I am assertive about the incompetence of the government in handling this pandemic, I am still grateful for the fact that not even one of my loved one got infected by the virus. Having said that, realizing that alone keeps me sane somehow. It is just whenever I feel like I can not handle the anxiety and stress that is happening today, I am just holding with my faith. Special thanks to my friends who are always with me though it is just all online. We play Call of Duty until we see the sun and no one even minds the time.

Even though it is full of certainty, I believe the strongest thing we could hold today is the faith. There are times I did over think about it but I realized that I could just use this time to keep myself better and take care and love my self more. This is the perfect time to pursue or do what we want to do but we do not have time before.

JOURNTALKS: DIGITAL PUBLISHING

Nowadays, a digital publisher should not only has the dedication and aspiration to be an effective one. A good digital publisher should also possess competence and expertise. Essentially, a man should always not be conformed in a specific box, he should always wander on to how he will be an effective one.

In relation to the webinar we have watched in relation to our subject Digital Publishing, I was able to acquire knowledge from the speaker. Not just basic knowledge about the topic but more on a really good understanding because of a comprehensive critical discussion, and with that, I am happy. I was enlightened with how really digital publishing in terms of managing websites and search engine optimization works. With regards to managing website, the idea that has marked in my mind is that building a good website is really important for it will be the strong foundation for your content discussion. And to have it, it will take years. According to her, the website of Lazada  has been published more early before it really became well known. Thus, it really takes time to have the expertise every good digital publisher needs.

In addition to what I have learned and discover in the webinar is the world of search engine optimization. Optimization this feature is the key. Back then I am just hearing this thing but with the webinar, I was able to understand how this really works. That behind every search of a user, there is this SEO. And with the ignorance of a good digital publisher, it will not utilize.

To conclude with, I was able to realize again that in Digital Publishing, it is not just about knowing your audience and having outstanding content; it is also about optimization on delivering your content. In addition, you will never go wrong investing time and effort in building or making a good website for it is a good foundation for digital publishing. Moreover, no doubt that this job is really not just simple and basic as it seems to be. It requires not just creativity but also the skills to be competitive enough.

BEST WEBSITE DESIGN

With the various websites that was presented, in my view, the third one which is the Woven Magazine is the best to my eyes. Not just being appealing to my own eyes, I admire it because of the style that, not just one story is in the banner page. In my own point of view, a good website should be not just good when viewed using a desktop but also in mobile phone for it is not at all  times that we are holding a computer. Second, is the design. It should be simple and has the good choice of color scheme, imagery, and typography. Lastly, it is the navigation of the website. We go in a website for a particular reason like looking for information or just simply browsing and it would be a big burden for a user if  it is confusing and not intuitive.

All things considered, it is the third website (Woven Magazine) is what I will buy. The website is obviously neat. Color palette are not striking to the eyes, it is calm and relaxing. There are no unnecessary details. Another thing that I love with this website design is the way how the content are being shown. It is not just a single story that is being displayed in the banner page. It is a great idea because as a user, I want to view things simultaneously. Lastly is the navigation of this website. Visibly, there’s no room for confusion. I know what to specifically click without puzzlement.

FINAL EXAM

With the current-faced pandemic, no doubt it has been a chaotic phase. No one became not affected. No words can describe the loss we are all going through and the challenges all sectors are facing up until now — it is totally devastating. Indeed, this pandemic that we are experiencing right now in our country is a no joke. Moreover, for the reason of pandemic, there are things that I thought I am not capable of and wisdom I thought I can never realize. Indeed, everything happens for a reason and we just have to trust God for always he is in control.

Just like with the first video, there were also tough days for me that I just woke up not feeling anything. I felt empty, I questioned my purpose here in earth, I felt the urge that I need to find purpose again because I think I am lost. Having said that, I just embrace that darkness because I realize I should not be forcing things to happen. I should love my wounded character as much as I love my best version of me. Those were also the days that I always look above, stare at it’s pretiness and thanks to the moon, reminds me that there’s beauty in darkness. Not limiting with embracing tough days, I also did not forget to keep my faith burning.

With all the pain, suffering, agony, and delay this pandemic has brought us, there is just one thing I can consider as good impact of it, and this is

us being able to realize things deeply, to always have empathy with others, to value the importance to pause for a while, and consider who and what are really the important things in life. We are all stuck at home and what we all got is just the memories that we all did when everything was still at normal. It is indeed that when you are alone and got nothing, the only thing you have is the things you did and the memories you have made— things that will last a lifetime. Digital Publishing Trends

In this age of technology, it is crystal clear that most of us are enjoying the convenience and usefulness of every product of digital age. One specific example that majority of us can relate is getting information in the internet because most of us have already treated different social media platforms and google as our source of news and information. Upon reading the 7 Digital Publishing Trends for 2020 and Beyond by Marilia Dimitriou, I strongly agree because most of stated trends there were seen and encountered personally by me. Having experienced some of those trends, I personally think that it is a need for digital publishers not to stop improving and looking for ways to constantly meet the needs and expectations of their readers. I believe there’s nothing wrong with these trends but just a plain betterment for everyone specially the inclusion of audio versions as a tool to help people with visual problems. 

 Every country varies in how they use the internet, and everyone should know that. In Philippines, I believe the most welcome trends when it comes to digital publishing are mobile-optimization, the adoption of interactive content, audio versions of their content to respond the reader’s need and lastly the collaborations of digital publishers to increase more engagement. I chose these for the reason that I find them helpful for every Filipino; they will improve the experience of us. While on the other hand, the remaining trends that I have not chosen are those trends I find not helpful and unreasonable. Digital Publishing tactics should improve the user’s experience and should not be other than that.

Why Go Digital?

Because of the rapid expansion of technology, many are shocked for how it amazingly works and give ease to the life of everyone. I think we can all agree that the digital revolution is now transforming every aspect of our lives at home and specially in business. And as the concern of people involved in print publication, they are afraid that their industry might get totally shut down because of the advent of digital publishing. But good thing for the print publication companies, they use this rapid growth of the innovation of technology to also shape up their business and reach their wanted-customers they knew they wouldn’t reach. 

 All things considered, I see no reason for us to not appreciate and also use digital publishing. Countless benefits and perks are now being enjoyed by each and everyone because of the rise of digital publishing. Undoubtedly, I am into this innovation for the reasons that I, my self, benefit from it. And I believe everyone’s enjoying it also for the aid it is giving to all. Going digital is not an option anymore but a pre-requisite for a better life and success for business enterprise in a 21st Century.

Spotify

In this present time where almost everybody has their own mobile phones with internet connectivity, I think there’s no reason for a podcast to become not popular. Though it is a one-sided medium, it is good for the reason that Spotify can monitor how large your audience is and who are they likely. Spotify is also the best choice where you can put your podcast in because it is widely used around the world. In addition, still you will not be needing expensive stuff to make one. Creating a podcast also does not involve a lot of steps.

In relation to Tarra Quismundo’s podcast, I find her first episode really informative. I did learn about how these scams work because  I myself also experienced it and just  found it suspicious but do not really know how such scam works even though I did not reply to such messages from random people. But after listening to her, I get to bring together the tiny pieces in my head to a new-gained awareness. One thing I will just remark is that it is better for her to just speak solely in english. It is better for she is fluent in her speaking voice while using english  language and I just find it peculiar hearing her shifting to Tagalog.
