Online Platforms: The Evolution

Like any other thing in the world, online platform is continuously evolving. It is because of human’s/our necessity to provide information quickly. Pieces of information became easier to be accessed as time passes by. It is great that we tend to adapt with these changes. Adjustments must be done for us to survive and keep going.
The first online platform that we had was the Web 1.0 which is known as the read only Web where in the users’ role is only limited to reading the information bestowed to him or her. He or she cannot respond or even ask questions regarding the content of an article, story, poem, myth or any other forms that is being presented in the internet.
Next, Web 2.0 was invented and it is the beginning of a Read-Write-Publish Era. It is the time when anyone can contribute and participate to the web by blogging. It does not require that a person must be technical or the owner of the sites. He or she can post whatever he or she likes that is mostly related to what’s recently happening with the world. Different kinds of blog is also seen like personal blogging, food blogging, and video blogging. Twitter, YouTube, eZineArticles, Flickr and Facebook are some of the platform’s examples of this web.
Then, Web 3.0 which is the semantic executing Web or Read-Write-Execute Era. It is also known to be the intelligent web. Like Web 2.0, anyone can take part of the Web but Web 3.0 is a more advanced one. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat or any other forms interconnect with one another. Features of these forms had also evolved like in Facebook, we could video chat with our friends all around the world instead of plain chatting. There is an interchange of data which is executed with the emphasize machine made to facilitate the understanding of information.
After that, the Assistive Media is made. It is a platform where group of software or hardware devices are accessed by people with disabilities with the use of computers. Hence, audio devices like Google Voice is made for people to use their gadgets even if a person do not have eyes. The barrier between the normal and the lacking ones is likely to be balanced somehow to control racial discrimination.
Collaborative Platforms is also created. It is basically combinations of different software or forms in order for us to work more efficiently. For instance, we could write a document on Microsoft Word, solve and update business transactions using Excel, and do a Powerpoint Presentation with the use of only one program. The examples of this is the ZOHO, Microsoft Office, and Cinesync.
Convergent Technologies is also invented. It is like combining the different kinds of technologies to produce a one existing multi-purpose invention. It is the combination of several industries to exchange data in a computerized format. An example of these is the fax machine, where in the business transactions are made through calling and sending information through telephones and that information would come out to be a hard copy.
Mobile Media is also made. It is the use of media devices from which we could decipher information and communicate with one another. Phones nowadays are like convertible to PC’s and video gaming gadgets. We can also communicate by using phones either online or offline.
Online Systems was also added to web. It is the online versions of information system. Before, we could only store our files with our own technology but now, we could choose to upload it online and access it anywhere at anytime. The process of storing, managing, using and gathering of data and communications has leveled up. The examples of this form is iCloud, Google Drive, and Dropbox.
Social Media has also arose. Here anyone could create, share or exchange information, interests, ideas, and pictures or videos in the virtual world. Hence, we could use any kinds of social media platforms that we like. Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Youtube, Snapchat, and Instagram are an example of this type.
Lastly, hashtags nowadays are widely used. Hashtag is a type of metadata tag used on social networking sites and microblogging services. Its function is to make a thing trend and be found. For instance, a student may look out for #walangpasok and then if he or she searched for it, he would easily find the information that he or she needs.
The evolution of online plat forms still continues and it is great that we the inventors provide us the most convenient technologies for us to get and share pieces of information. With them, we tend to do whatever we like and we want but we must also be responsible enough to avoid tragic accidents and incidents from happening. I still remember a quote from somebody who warns us about using the net properly, “We must think before we click.”
