Burning of Pyramids (Derek Jarman, 1973).
‘Audience reaction [to Derek Jarman’s Super-8 films] was, in the main, bemused. Another word would be bored. During screenings at [his studio at] Butler’s Wharf, hands wandered more determinedly than ever – particularly when Jarman discovered the trick of showing footage shot at six frames per second at a snail-like three, thus halving the speed with which his images crossed the screen. So very dreamlike, some felt, as to put one to sleep.’ (Tony Peake, Derek Jarman, London: Abacus, 2001, p.201)
