For the handsome, the pretty and the handsomely pretty. Mainly j-fashion: kei, lolita and ouji with plenty of DIY sewing projects, but also vintage finds with other bits and bobs. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Side blog.

watching a gen zer laugh hysterically over a magazine suggesting American mass market clothes as a way to get a lolita look. In 2005.
Sweet child, let me explain something to you...
The fact that you can just BUY lolita brand from websites /apps is something you could not do 20 years ago (wth is an app?). You couldn't. The Asian market as a whole did not do lolita. It was strictly a Japanese thing. In Japan. You HAD to use a shopping service that overcharged sums that would make your head spin. Shipping took months if not more than a year. You had no idea if you were even GETTING what you paid for, let alone a refund if they couldn't secure your items because they wouldn't buy it because you paid for it FIRST. It was the wild west of loli fashion. To be honest I'm kinda surprised that there was such an interest in it, with the fashion being so restricted.
Hell, the reason WHY you can buy brando from online retailers catering to a western market is BECAUSE of the 00s and the struggle millennials had acquiring lolita. We scraped and saved, made do with what we had and made our own coords, all the while demanding we get our foot in the door. "We will buy your stuff, please sell it to us!"
So, yes. Modded maxi skirts and bell sleeve blouses from Abercrombie was a thing. Sometimes it was all we could get.

#Because one american store died?#Are you fucking with me rn?#The rest of the world isn't good enough for them?
So let me explain.
The reality is that American dollars have driven capitalist economies around the world. American businessmen exploiting cheaper labor around the globe for goods to sell to Americans. We inherited the practice from Great Britain. Been doing it since the beginning of the country.
Britain is an Empire, we can be an empire too! is pretty much how it went and still is.
So when America becomes controlled by a fascist wanna be dictator who pushes for isolationism in a global economy with taxes on imported goods, it becomes too expensive (in reality it's just taking a slice of profits away but we can't have that) for businesses to funnel cheap goods into a nation that defines itself on wealth = possessions. People stop buying so many goods because prices have gone up due to the taxes being pushed off onto them, which cuts into the bottom line so... They just shut down. Because they can make a profit off of a business going out of business via tax breaks. Who cares if paper mills and printers go out of business in China because we stop giving them money? This is 'MERICA!
Clarification Edit: due to American businesses cutting ties internationally many other businesses NOT in America have had to either pivot hard to find another source for funds or close up shop. A lot of them are choosing to close up shop because trying to find new clients in the meantime will hemorrhage money and that's not good for business.
Welcome to American Capitalism™️! We hate it too.
Well my loves, it appears as though the answer to "Can the Big Pattern Company (Simplicity/Burda/McCalls/ect.) survive the death of JoAnn?" has come.
The answer is no. No it cannot. It has been sold to a liquidator just like JoAnns was.
So if there is ANYTHING you want I suggest you get it now. simplicity.com is currently having a pattern sale and I snatched up some that might be useful for cosplay purposes.
I am very glad these last couple of years I have built up my collection.

Because various people have asked, the black fluffy hair things that I frequently wear are hair floofs! And why yes, there’s a Gothic Charm School tutorial on how to make them!

In December 2024 a small number (3) of us went to a bougie restaraunt for ILD.
The food was good, but almost all of my photos of the space turned out blurry somehow.
