Can’t wait for, like, 2025 when we look back on the 2018/2019 era and say “hey, remember when we were all really freaking depressed? That was a crazy time! Glad we aren’t like that anymore”

not to be a killjoy but it's still crazy to me that it's considered mean to be like "maybe you should read / play / watch the source material before creating fanworks and diving into the fandom" bc every time i see somebody going "i havent played disco elysium or know anything about it tbh but uwu here's harry and kim kissing" idk maybe you should engage with it. maybe you should play the anti-capitalist surrealist game where you investigate the murder of a mercenary who led the gang rape of a foreign girl and process that for a bit? and then you can do cutesy mlm or whatever idc. but like at the absolute bare minimum you should understand what the source material involves otherwise we get the phenomenon of people joining a dragon age server and wanting content warnings for like, mage racism. like it's fine to ship and transform the genre into whatever but if you arent comfortable with discussions of the actual source content itself then maybe the fandom isnt for you and a different one is. peace and love.

bringing it up again for the millionth time but I'm still obsessed with the way that hannibal lecter is canonically aware of the narrative not because its ever explicitly stated but because the author who created him genuinely believes this to be true and stopped writing the book series because he's afraid of him

#if grantaire can pretend that he’s a god then he can accept that enjolras doesn’t love him#how could a god love a man?#but if enjolras is just another man? what then?#if he’s a real flesh and blood person#then there’s no excuse#then he just doesn’t love grantaire and he’ll have to deal with that
Grantaire needs Enjolras to be perfect and beautiful and untouchable, because if he’s not then he’s just a man who doesn’t love him

Daryl was the one to describe Beth to the Artist that paints the portraits of lost loved ones in Maggie's office
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you look closely at the painting, you'll notice that its identical to the scene where she’s picking muscadine grapes (Season 4, Episode 10)—the same scene where Daryl gives her the bandana. Same pose. Same expression. Same everything. Just look at the painting compared to that screenshot and tell me I’m crazy?
Okay so Beth's hairstyle, when she runs from the prison, she doesn’t have this hairstyle. So if Maggie were the one describing the painting based on the last time she saw Beth alive how could she perfectly recall this very specific hairstyle or pose? When Beth was alone with Daryl?
She wouldn’t have seen Beth like that. Even the necklace in the painting appears broken aka the shoelace necklace but at the prison, it wasn’t.
Tumblr media
Not to mention the foliage in the painting—darker on the right side, lighter and more diffused on the left—mirrors the background of that exact scene.
There’s also a subtle detail in the painting: her arm has a dark smudge on it could be the scratches from screenshot, could be nothing but it’s interesting that it’s included at all. and she doesn't have them at the prison
Now, here's where it gets puzzling the composition of the painting itself. Beth is the only one not looking straight ahead. Everyone else is painted facing forward, "staring death in the face."
Beth, on the other hand, is looking away. That could be interpreted two ways: one, she isn’t dead, or two, the person who described her portrait was different or not ready to view her as dead. If Maggie described the other portraits, then why isn't Beth looking straight ahead like the others? its because Daryl described Beth’s painting.
Tumblr media
Now we know daryl is still looking for Beth in other people such as Leah and Elizabeth and Shies away from any topic involving her that could be why she's not facing forward, Daryl isnt ready to face her death like Maggie was ready to face the death of everyone else, so he looks away, so in turn Beth is looking way with him,
Another reason I believe Daryl was the one to describe Beth for the painting is because of the specific moment it seems to capture. To most people, the bandanna scene might seem short or unremarkable but not to Daryl.
It’s the scene where he chastises Beth and makes a harsh comment about her father. And you can see the regret hit him almost instantly. He stares at her, multiple times, trying to take back what he said without saying it. That regret it probably stuck with him. It’s the kind of moment that you revisit over and over in your head, wishing you could undo it.
So maybe that’s why this version of Beth is the one burned into his memory. Not because it was dramatic or big, but because it mattered to him.
This part is Kinda random but really interesting and ties into some more symbolism that Beth is still alive
Color-wise, Beth’s portrait stands out again. Every other character is painted with a mix of tones, but Beth is almost entirely green, with only a touch of red in her hair and the foliage.
Green, is the color of growth, renewal, healing, hope, prosperity, optimism, and safety. It also carries shades of inexperience, immaturity, and jealousy.
Beth constantly tries to bring hope wherever she goes. Even after Hershel dies, she remains optimistic and tries to heal not just herself, but others too. She accepts Daryl’s suffering without judgment, offers him emotional safety, gives him permission to open up, and helps him begin to heal.
She's Jealous of Maggies and Michonne‘s ability to change and showed naivety and inexperience throughout the Grady arc and at the end we could say she was reborn into a new person
Now we're just waiting for Beth's renewal

The other night husband and I were watching a documentary about the yeti where they were doing DNA analysis of samples of supposed yeti fur, and every one of them came back as bears.
Anyway, the next night we watched a thing about some pig man who is supposed to live in Vermont. People said it had claws and a pig nose but walked upright like a man. Now, I happen to know that sideshows used to shave bears and present them as pig men. So every piece of evidence they gave of this monster sounds to me like a bear with mange.
So now the running joke in our house is that everything is bears. Aliens? Bears. Loch Ness monster? Bear. Every cryptozoological mystery is just a very crafty bear.
Bears. They’re everywhere. Be wary. Anyone or anything could be a bear.

thinking... contemplating... how katara being 'maternal' is so much more complex in canon than people seem to take it as
the first time we meet this girl, this 14 year old girl, she's so pissed at her brother that she explodes an iceberg. she's yelling about how he's a sexist nutbrain and she's embarrassed to be related to him, because he thinks domestic labour is, like, a woman's Purpose, or something. and that's most likely connected to how katara has taken over their mother's domestic and emotional duties since she died. this is just a fact of katara's character - she HAD to become like this because their actual mother DIED. if the desert episode is anything to go by, everyone else in her family was falling apart, and katara had the strength to keep everyone together. so she did, but that's still a sacrifice on her part. it's one of the easiest ways you see her trauma impact her personality. I wonder if katara never really had the time to process her grief the way sokka and hakoda did, and that's why she brings it up so often (although it's still selfless in nature, because 9 times out of 10 it's katara attempting to connect with people by expressing how they've both been hurt by the war and she understands what it's like)
so there's this idea of katara as a mother figure, but even within canon, there's pushback. because she's FOURTEEN. this girl stole from pirates and made a complete mess of things and showed no remorse at the end of the episode. she picked a fight with a master waterbender when she had no training. she's YOUNG, she's so young and passionate and full of fire. and that isn't actually at odds with her caring about people. some of her traits may come from the wisdom of experiencing trauma at an early age, but it's all still HER
katara's conflict with toph is the most interesting part of how all of this is explored, if you ask me. because toph was rich and sheltered, she grew up with her parents hiding her from the world, in a town relatively untouched by the war. toph doesn't get it. she hates feeling coddled, feeling like people think she's incapable and needs to be protected because of her disability, so of course the two of them clash. katara's trauma includes needing to take care of people, and toph's includes being taken care of even though she doesn't need it. it's a recipe for disaster
I'm just thinking about the scene in the runaway where toph tells katara to stop trying to mother everyone, because she's just a kid like them, and sokka has to be the one to explain their family history to toph. how sokka, despite being older than katara, can't remember their mother's face and when he tries all he sees is his younger sister. I just love it. there's so much going on here. katara snapping that sokka didn't love their mother the way she did, almost at the very end of the show, was a long time coming
