Confetti is flying, champagne is popping, fireworks are crackling. People are kissing and embracing. Others are on the phone with family. New years marks the beginning of fresh starts and new beginnings but who you start it with is the most important.

The person you start the new year with is the person you want to spend New Year’s Day with. The one you want to clean up bottles with the next day. The one you have Polaroids with strewn across your apartment floor. Johnny was that person.

When you met Johnny you never expected it to be anything more than a casual fling, but here you were ten months later certifiably in love. You met on a whim and decided to go on a few dates here and there but agreed to keep things casual. However, before you knew it you were meeting up two or three times a week. Within three months you were regularly spending the night at his place and even had a spare key. By month seven you were moved in together and you never expected it to go as smoothly as it did. Sure there were moments where you didn’t agree on things, or where you fought but you always made up, whether it was in the moment or a few hours later, but you did agree to never go to bed angry.

The random kisses as you’re picking up streamers and sweeping up confetti from the floor. He’s the one you have countless Polaroids with hanging up on your fridge. He’s the one you want to spend all your New Year’s Days with and spoiler when you skip to the last page he’s the one you spend all your days with.
