Glancing down at Paul now didn't seem half as scary as before. Maybe it was because this jump didn't seem so high, or because Paul had already caught her once, but Belle actually felt excited to jump this last little bit. It was thrilling to overcome your fears! Grinning down at him, she said, "Okay! Ready or not, here I come!" And jumped enthusiastically into the air.

Belle grinned wide and threw her head back in a laugh. She felt so alive! Never would she have done any of this adventuring if Paul hadn’t come along. Locking eyes with him, she smiled. “Well, it helps if you’ve got a nice, strong man waiting to catch you at the bottom.”

Hurricanes seemed like the last thing she had expected him to say, but Belle couldn’t blame him. Belle had never personally seen a hurricane, but from what she’d seen on TV and read about in books, they were perfectly reasonable things to be afraid of. Heights on the other hand…
Get a grip, Belle. You came here for adventure, and this is it! People in adventure books wouldn’t have gotten anywhere if they didn’t overcome their fears. So don’t be such a sissy! It’s only a ten foot jump…
Taking a deep breath, Belle nodded, and before she could talk herself out of it, jumped from the edge.

“You’re not afraid of anything?” Belle frowned at him. “Everyone is afraid of something. Come on, spill. I won’t laugh, I promise. What is it? Spiders?” Her laugh quickly faded away when she was greeted with this next step in their journey. “What am I supposed to do, jump? Are you crazy?”

Belle forgot all about climbing down that ladder when he kissed her. His lips were so soft and warm…. and nice. Giggling softly she thought about his question. “I guess I’m a little afraid of heights. It’s mostly jumping from them though. Or, in this case just getting down.” She frowned slightly, feeling a little stupid and silly. What a dumb thing to be afraid of!
