with his semester classes having had ended a week or two prior, ayemi had ample time on his hands to do the things that he loved to do - which usually consisted of anything music related or hanging out with his friends. he had spent the first week of his summer vacation held up in his room, unable to focus on anything but finishing the song he had been working on for over a month. final examinations and other academic related responsibilities had taken his attention away from music, much to his chagrin. but he had promised his father that as long as he was a student, academics would come first. and in return, his father didn’t force him to completely stop pursuing music and his father took care of him financially for the time being. 

which was the main part of the reason why ayemi was able to afford rent in a nice apartment in seoul. not exactly luxury, but nicer than most places a lot of people his age usually lived. and even though he could afford it on his own, he still wanted a roommate - which was how alex came into the picture. he and alex had been friends for quite a long time; reaching back to their pre adolescence when they had become penpals. finding out that his childhood penpal had moved to south korea around the same time that he had only made the transition into moving to a new country all the more easier for him. 

“yah, hurry up! i want to make it to the food stands before they get too packed.” the taller male gave his friend and gentle nudged with his elbow, as if he were encouraging him to walk faster. “i know those little legs can move faster than that - i’ve seen you play sports before.”

about

ayemi was born and raised in brooklyn, new york. his mother was a school teacher that met his father while she was teaching in south korea in her youth. when she ended up getting pregnant with ayemi and his twin sister, she went back home to have her children and kept it a secret from their father. she didn’t want to mess with any of his plans in life (he was in law school at the time), so to avoid ‘ruining’ his life, she left south korea.

once she got back to the states, his mother started giving voice lessons and built up a good clientele of vocal students. his mother is where he got his love of music from, as did his twin sister. they’ve both been singing since they could talk. ayemi’s love of music runs deep, and it was one of his strongest connections with his mother.

it wasn’t until they were eleven years old that he finally met his father for the first time. he’s not sure why his mother finally decided to come clean, but he was happy he was able to speak to his father and get to know him - even though he had already remarried a woman that didn’t care for him or his sister. however, his half siblings were always kind to the two of them and they got along quite well.

as he grew up, so did his love for music. after years of taking piano and guitar lessons, he began dabbling in writing his own music around the age of fifteen. it was just two years later that his mother passed away from a terminal illness, one that she had been keeping from her children. as much as he wanted to be angry with her, he couldn’t bring himself to be. her death made him all the more determined to make something out of himself when it came to music.

after her passing, ayemi and his sister moved to south korea to live with their father, his wife and their half siblings. it was a huge adjustment at first, but he quickly adapted to the new country and culture with the help of his half siblings.

after graduating from high school, he started pursuing a music career, auditioning at different companies and such - but while he continued his schooling, which was his father’s condition when it came to supporting his music.

while he’s pursuing his music career, he’s also going to school and studying information technology (IT) at kyung hee university. he’s not the strongest student, most likely due to his focus mainly being on his music, but he makes good enough grades to keep his father happy. 

a lot of people would say that ayemi is a good friend to have based on a lot of traits that he displays. he’s loyal and dedicated, which translates into him always being there for his friends. he enjoys having a good time and putting himself out there, which means he’s not afraid to make himself look stupid or dumb just to get a smile out of the people that he cares about whenever they’re having a rough day. 

however, given his age, he does have the tendency to be just as obnoxious as any other twenty year old guy. crude, inappropriate and dark jokes are definitely more his speed than anything else, but not to the point of him being an asshole.

can be very, very stubborn and doesn’t forgive easily. he doesn’t like when his trust is broken or when someone hurts him, especially knowingly, so once ties are cut with him, they’re almost always cut for life.
