This video is a great Multimodal presentation as it has been created by primary school students to share an important message about bullying and friendship.
This video includes;
-Words written to express meaning throughout.
- Visual - pictures drawn as well as words written all shown visually to the audience.
- Audio - their is a song playing through the background which directly relates to friendship.
The presentation has been presented in a creative way, and would be a great resource to share with students. Students may have written a piece of work that shares their emotions, feelings and ideas about something important to them such as bullying. However just reading their work may not have the same impact as a multimodal presentation such as this. I would show the video and ask students to turn their piece of writing into something similar to the video using two or more modalities to share their message.

This week I am sharing two online resources that I have found helpful when designing lessons in English.
The first is a website called ‘scootle’ which aligns with the Australian curriculum. If you click on the Link below select ‘browse Australian curriculum’ then ‘English’. This gives you every year level and its content descriptor. Each descriptor then has resources attached that can be used as part of your lessons. I have attached a youtube clip that shows scootles benefits as well as the direct link to scootle.

The second resource I have discovered is ‘ Bug Club’ (See picture above) This is an online resource for both teachers and students. For teachers it offers professional development webinars to improve our skills as well as instruction on how to implement Bug Club in your school to promote reading. Have a look, it might be something you would be interested in using in your classroom.

Croydon Library is located in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne and is a fantastic library for children.
It is not only a library to borrow books from but it also offers engaging reading and listening for children including, story time, Auslan story time and Chinese story time.
Croydon library also offers ‘Kanopy Kids’, which highlights films and tv shows to encourage empathy and mindfulness, along with ‘Beyond sparkles and superheroes’, which aims to promote positive messages about gender and equity.

Transition words - This is an example of a simple anchor chart that can be used to help students move their story, argument, or other piece of writing along.
I have used the colours green, yellow and red to coincide with a ‘traffic light’ system as it is a familiar object to many students.

We’re Going on a Bear Hunt was a favourite childhood book of mine. I always remember my Dad reading this, and many other stories, in such a theatrical way. He would use volume in his voice and facial expressions to make me excited to read with him.
I myself now try to encapsulate the theatrics my dad used with me when I read to my students. I find this so important to engage them in the story, especially in the early years. I have found by doing this it also encourages students to incorporate adjectives and WOW words in their writing, because they want their own stories to have that same animation the story time books have.
