《 “not perfect symmetry”》
At first, my ides was taking some really symmetric tube station photos. However, it’s a little bit hard to achieve. So when the photos came out, I realized they don’t need to be perfect symmetric, which could make the pictures more interesting. Hope you like it.

Last week we went to 3 different galleries and all of them are impressive and some of their works are connected.
The first abstract pieces were created by Tom Lovelace. They are photographs of the clouds with black felt set over the images. Though they are separate pieces, they look like a set, almost mirroring each other through seemingly inverted reflections of each other.
Second work by Gina Soden is a photograph printed on an antique mirror. Because the mirror is used instead of photograph paper, the piece reflects shadows of the viewer.
The last piece is one of a set of 6 by Phoebe Boswell. It is a video of her drifting at sea, made it abstract through the mirror plane going down the center. This is a double reflection in the sense that this was a very difficult and tumultuous time for the artist, and she is reflecting on her struggle as well.

After I changed my final project idea, I realized that tube station is a magic place which full of interesting architecture. Even though it is the most common place in our life but we always ignore the beauty of it. Geometry is everywhere around the station. I like the second picture the best because I can see the different angles through the handrail, it’s really interesting. To be honest, it’s hard to take pictures without people inside in tube station, so some of the photos took me a long time waiting. But it is worthy to wait, great photograph always need to be waited.

Great architect in London really impressed me .This is a wonderful city contains both modern and historical elements.
Also, there is a german photographer called Simone Hutsch who inspired me. She is an architecture photographer and good at taking color photos. She always says exploring the geometry of the building inspired his imagination and I think so. Different perspective can make the shape of building different. I think it’s interesting even they are not related to my project.
Here are some pic that I took lately.

After the pilot phase, I think my ideas was a little bit limited that just focus on what happened in Chinatown. This time I will shoot more photos that can compare these two countries like food and dressing and something which can represent them. The things I shoot will be the symbol of two countries which can let people know what I am try to express in the first place. I want to find these and of course the stories behind in order to let people know more about China and culture mixture overseas. I found some photos which is taken by a long distance couple and these inspired me. They shoot the same type photos like food and cars in different place and then combined them into one photo which I think it’s interesting and totally relevant to my project.

V&A museum
This photo was taken in the “China” area in this museum. When I got there, I saw there was a father and a little girl standing here, taking photos with those pandas. This inspired me that I can photograph this moment to make it become one of my project. It shows how panda which is a sign of China popular.
Shutter speed: 1/20
Aperture: 3.5 (3.5 aperture is an average setting which can make the background clear to see.
ISO: 800( the museum is dark so I adjusted a high ISO to make sure my photo is bright enough.)

Filmphotographing is hard to processing. These photos really took me a few days to finish. But having said that, it’s really interesting and happy to see the final results which reminded me of the old days (80s 90s).

After receiving feedback last class, I realized that my photos didn’t contain London elements . So I just keep shooting, and exploring. This time when I came to Chinatown, there are more people in there. Each one of them take photos about the red lamp, the dragon or other Chinese elements and I am so proud of this. It also inspired me that I can photograph this kind of action to show the culture fusion between London and China . The last picture is about mixing the taxi which is a sign of London and the Chinese traditional architecture. At the same to last time, I used a high degree of saturation which can express this chinese elements much better.

location : Chinatown.
My subject is about Chinese elements in London.London is an international city so I think there must be something which could represent chinese traditons here, like the dragon decoration and traditional Chinese food. We can see the culture fusion between western and eastern countries through these photos. For example, there are many western people want to try chinese food and celebrate the Chinese New Year with us in Chinatown. So I think this may be a good way to let people know more about China.
