Fashion Trends caging my creativity
It was society, religion, beliefs, family, school rules, university guidelines and office codes which limited my options to dress according to my feelings. I waited for college all my school life as I knew there will no uniform. I felt agitated all my teenage with the dressing rules of the university. Finally when I felt free that no more rules and off course the financial independence by getting a decent job offer, I received a dress code policy slide in the induction program by HR. These limitations and rule books were a pain as I never liked any. When the news reports were exploded with relaxed dress code policies being announced and practiced by many organizations, I felt the freedom coming to let my creativity flourish again.
Recently when I decided to start my own design studio, I started internet research to upgrade my skills and knowledge about technologies available for designing. Thanks to Google Analytics that they serve plenty of food to your brain by bringing related topics to your Facebook page, Instagram page and YouTube account. One such suggested video brought me to notice that there is a new rule book evolving called “Fashion Trends”.
This new body provides a long list of dos and don’ts on what, when, where, how to dress. The list does not stop there but goes further with jewelry, shoes, make-up, prints and color combinations in trend. After going through some of these guides, I realized that my options to create something have narrowed to the extent of recreating what already exists, of making each one look, dress and feel the same. Let me give an example, I happened to visit a charity event in Europe, to my surprise everyone wore a black dress as it was dress-up event. This new body called “Fashion Trends” is the new society, new school rule book, new university guidelines & new employer who is caging the creativity in dressing.
With my firm belief that dressing is an art, it needs to be free as any other art. So here I am requesting all the designers, artists out there, please start your new project from blank paper and free mind, not from these definitions and rules given by these trends. Let your dreams, feelings, love, passion and inspirations guide you in choosing the designs, the prints, the colors and flourish your creativity.
