“I thought so,” Lilo nodded confidently, glad Mabel had similar feelings. It would’ve been disappointing if she’d been so excited to show her a lackluster pebble. “That’s the best idea I’ve heard in a long time!” Her eyes moved back to her friend’s face, lighting up. “We could make the coolest rock museum in the world. People will travel miles to check them out. We’ll be millionaires and household names.” And Mertle Edmonds would feel real stupid then.

“Picture it, Lilo: The Pelekai-Pines Museum of Fascinating Rocks!” Mabel was giddy with inspiration, which was great, because “giddy” was one of her top five favorite feelings. But she felt a snuffling feeling on her leg, and she turned to see Waddles on his leash, looking for a snack. “What do you think, Waddles? Do you want to be the museum’s mascot? Snort if you think it’s a good idea!” Waddles immediately snorted, and Mabel squealed. “He likes it! That means it’s a good one!”

Some people would probably be quite confused, or a little offended. But not Mabel. Lilo knew Mabel would be just as excited over the wonky rock she’d picked up as she was, and it was her first thought upon seeing it. She had to show her friend. Holding out the small colorful, rounded rock – closer to a pebble, maybe – her gaze fell from Mabel to her find. There was nothing extremely special about it, but it had stood out to Lilo.  “Isn’t it beautiful?”

Mabel gasped in awe. “It is!” Her eyes widened with delight. “Lilo, this is the most amazing rock I’ve seen in a long time. It should be in, like a rock museum! Wait- are there rock museums? Because there should be.” Then she gasped once more, this time with sudden inspiration. “We should collect a bunch of beautiful, incredible, mind-blowing rocks and start our own rock museum! What do you say?

Lilo had never had this problem before – forgetting to speak after greeting someone. She wasn’t sure what it was about Mabel, she just found her gaze lingering a little too long sometimes. Especially when she was smiling. It took her a solid ten seconds to realize the other girl was waiting on her to speak, that she’d been the one to initiate conversation, and snap out of it. “Right,” she remembered at once, “I gotta show you this cool rock I found.”

“Oh my gosh, yes!” Mabel squealed. It didn’t take much to excite Mabel, but Lilo was about to show her a cool rock. Who wouldn’t be excited about that? The rock could be shiny, or be weirdly-shaped, or contain all sorts of colors. And on top of that, Lilo was so nice and friendly- and admittedly, really pretty. But Mabel would think about that last part later. She had a rock that needed her focus. "I love cool rocks! Let me see it!”

mabel is a ray of sunshine! she loves meeting new people, she loves creating weird new pieces of art, she loves exploring creepy places with her brother- she just loves life! but not everyone can be happy and optimistic 24/7, and mabel can sometimes feel the pressure to stay this way because that’s how people see her. when she does get sad or angry or feel anything negative, she tries to hide it away, fearing that that’s not what people want from her. still, she has more good days than bad, and she never takes life too seriously. 

- mabel also had a crush on wendy at one time, but when she found out that dipper did, too- and that his was an even more massive crush- she moved on, and now she totally ships the two of them together. she’s always dropping way too big hints in front of wendy that dipper likes them, which embarrasses dipper to no end. 

- mabel wants to get her degree in fine arts, so that she can fulfill her dream of becoming an artist, but she knows that’s not really practical. as much as she loves art, she knows that most people can live off of it. that said, she’s not sure what else to get her degree in at school. 

- mabel once had a- sorta weird dream about her rival, pacifica. she woke up from it feeling tingly and confused. sure, pacifica is pretty and all, and has great style, and is so smart, but she’s also really mean, so there’s no way mabel could like her like that- right? 

- mabel is the older twin by three minutes. she never lets dipper forget it, and always insists, on their birthday, on blowing out the candles three minutes before he does. then, they take out the candles that mabel blew out, and put in a new set for dipper. it’s a pines family tradition at this point.
