Finding a suitable student housing is not an easy job. In this city, students can lead a good life. However this does not mean that all the options will be available for you straight away. Serviced apartments are a comfortable solution for the first 1-2 weeks and while you find something a bit more permanent (they tend to be more expensive than the previous options mentioned here. If you are coming with a cheap budget, the best solution for the first initial weeks is to stay at a Hostel and Backpackers as these rooms tend to be cheaper than university college rooms or homestays. Backpackers offer rooms that are shared and also private. It is your choice. Finally, hotels are an other option for your initial stay.

Chances of making money:

Finding the perfect room may not be cheap. However Australia gives you a unique opportunity that many other study destinations don't: You will be able to work legally as a student in Australia. With a student visa you can work up to to 40 hours per fortnight (two-week period) during your study periods (February to June and July to December), and full-time (80 hours per fortnight which is a two-week period) during vacations. In general, you could expect to cover living expenses by doing a  casual job. Please note this also depends on the city you live. Sydney and Melbourne are more expensive so perhaps this will be more challenging than in other cities such as Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Gold Coast. You will not be able to cover your tuition fee costs with a casual job.

As you can see, there are lots of options of student accommodation in Australia. You just need to

1. give it enough time (DO NOT leave finding suitable student housing to the last minute),

2. use the right tools and

3. ask people that have the know-how and the local contacts in order to maximise your chances of finding a room that fits your needs & budgets and that fulfills your expectations.
