there’s a difference between “just do a little yoga it will cure your depression forever :)” and “going for a run won’t solve your problems but it will make you feel a little better and that’s the first step” but this site seems to treat them as the same thing
If you're disabled and need plastic stuff like straws to eat and live, or even just to live comfortably, and you feel guilty, even just in the back of your head because you feel like your needs are "bad for the planet" even in the smallest way, I want to make sure you know that as a species, even the most environmentally conscious of us are always making decisions and weighing the payoff. Almost nothing is 100% great for the environment, even solar panels need resources we must mine from the earth to make. But we weigh the benefits with the means of achieving them.
And with you, the payoff is you being alive. That is enough to make plastic straws, packaging for medications, and any supplies you need worthwhile. You being here is enough benefit for the world and you don't need to justify your existence.
I could go on about how your footprint is also miniscule compared to certain large corporations who feel no guilt about the havok they cause, or how plastic straws make up a piddling small percentage of plastic in the ocean, but the bottom line is, you don't need to feel bad about what you need to survive.
Able-bodied people aren't questioned so harshly when they drive cars to their workplaces, or when they eat grains from a monoculture farming system that is bad for the land, or when they use their phones and electronics that are extremely hard to dispose of ethically. Anyone sending you hate on here, from their phones and computers that they will replace once they stop working, saying you don't deserve to live because of the "cost on the environment," is not only a fascist, but a miserable hypocrite.
You are worth it. Your life is precious and we're glad your here.
“if you can’t brush your teeth that’s fine uwu one step at a time” posts are supportive and that’s great but I’m about to have a 4.4k$ dental bill because I wasn’t taking care of my teeth when I was super depressed so uhh brush your fuckin teeth
