I’ve been very quiet for the past few weeks, but thanks to a fab giveaway and some generous shout-outs have a band of new followers, so am introducing myself again! I’m Alice, and I bake brownies, afternoon teas and muffins in my vintage claret Aga at home in Battle, East Sussex. The business was named after my 2 eldest children, 48 hours before I discovered I had a third on board. So despite the reduced IG presence I’m still here baking away. Shopify kindly just alerted me to the fact today marks 3 years since my first order via the web-site! It was for @starsmeadbookbinding and for 6 rosemary, feta and olive muffins. These became spinach, feta and olive subsequently, but perhaps I should reintroduce some rosemary into the recipe again? Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads out there! Thank you for all your orders - it’s been quite the week! When you buy from a small business like mine it makes a real difference to a real person and their real family. ‘Small’ literally means me. I bake, decorate, pack, post, I’m the accounts lady, social media person, creative director, head of marketing, buyer, and cleaner. And like many others I do this around small children who need dropping off, picking up, book bags, kit bags, who have swimming lessons, dancing lessons, sports day, school trips, and who need feeding, stories reading, and playing with. In the interests of being open and honest - I got something wrong this week, and had a complaint from a customer. It wasn’t a catastrophic mistake, but when it’s only you dealing with it, and shouldering it, it can feel much bigger than it is. So here’s to the 999 times in 1,000 I get it right, despite being just me, and thank you to all my fabulous customers who keep me busy all week x
