I'm gonna be fully honest. I don't really enjoy fandom stuff, but of course I stay in my line and aren't a dick to people about it. Not my business and all that.
But what I have noticed in online fandom spaces, that I think need to be addressed.
Is how OC is treated, both characters and content in general.
I loathe how Original works are being put down in favor of dedicating your online presence and time to big corporate IPs.
And I know how ironic that is coming from someone with my URL. But I am slowly working on my own project. And I genuinely think it's good for you to make something that is wholly your own.
It's such a shame consumption of media is seen as almost political praxis, whilst making stuff yourself is seen as nigh shameful.
I'm sure we've all seen posts about "hehe hoho look how much of a loser I am for enjoying stuff I made myself hoho"
And like, that stuff always makes me sad. Please be proud of what you make, doesn't matter if it's "good" you made it, and that is worth being happy about by itself
#☝️ ☝️ ☝️!!!!#Why not put love into your own work the same way some adored medias try to put effort into theirs?#Aren't most works “OC” in the beginning when they have yet to be sketched or written?#A book character was once an OC that the writer put love and effort into instead of rejecting the mere idea of making something themselves#If the creators of the media you enjoy held the same mindset they probably never would've made what you love#so why not follow their example and make your own original content that others and yourself could enjoy?#My apologies if I misinterpreted this in someway#Either way please bless the world with your original work & don't feel like making it is such a sin. It actually makes things more colorful.
