Why does this movie have me feeling sad for Tom Cruise

I so desperately want to watch Top Gun Maverick but I won't be able to convince my father to buy it without having watched the first one but I find Tom Cruise to be violently off-putting.

It's taken me 2 hours to get 30 minutes into this film (with me fast forwarding through scenes) because I have to keep getting up to take a walk

Like, yeah the whole scientology thing is gross but his teeth. They're too white or something.

But I'm forcing myself through this for Bob (and maybe slightly glen powell). I'm coming for you baby, I'm doing it for you.

Why did Gale think Peeta being hijacked would make his chances worse? Katniss didn’t like him because she feels sorry for him.

nonny, right you are! katniss didn't like gale because she felt sorry for him.

howeverrrrrrr, gale one hundred percent thinks that is the only way she can cares for people. as seen when he openly expresses that the only way to get katniss's attention is to be in pain (mj, 115).

which, btw, is a totally rude move on his part. to boil down katniss's feelings and care for others (exc. her family) to pity. or a desire to make them feel better. rather than her own desire.

but that is the reason why gale is so insistent that katniss would not be able to move on from hijacked peeta.

because the only time she ever chose gale over peeta was when gale was lying on her kitchen table, wincing with pain. and now gale is better. and peeta... peeta is very much not so.

I’m pretty sure it was a sci-fi? I had originally found it on a random generator anime site and cannot remember what prompts I put in, just that I watched it on CrunchyRoll years ago and never marked the name down in my notes of where I was in it

I also think it was fairly short at the time? Only had like. 12 episodes but it’s been some time so there could be more

Thinking about Catching Fire, and when Peeta volunteers after Haymitch’s name is called.

I always struggle to understand why he did that. I know it’s because he’s protecting Haymitch, and he wants to ensure Katniss makes it out of the games Alive. And he doesn’t think he means anything to her, so he’s pretty sure she won’t miss him when he dies. But I just. He’s so incredibly wrong.

But it also made me realize that he single handedly ensured Haymitch didn’t die. Knowing what we know from SOTR…there’s no way Snow would have let Haymitch into another arena. Not after what happened the first time. Especially if he was going to be with all the same people he conspired with the first time. Snow would have ensured Haymitch was the first to die, and I’m sure of that. Where would the rebellion have gone then? Katniss would have been completely on her own with no one else there to convince her to stick with Finnick and Mags (not to mention she just lost her Mentor and her Stylist- we can’t forget about Cinna). She probably would have been killed as well. And I’m sure Haymitch would have been under a magnifying glass before he got into the arena, and there would have been no way he could have discussed the rebel plans with the other victors. I think it all would have fallen apart.

So in short. Peeta saved Haymitch in ways I don’t think he was even aware of. He might have single handedly saved the rebellion.

So earlier in art class today, someone drew a characters hands in their pockets and mentioned that hands are really like the ultimate end boss of art, and most of us wholeheartedly agreed. So then, our teacher went ahead and free handed like a handful of hands on the board, earning a woah from a couple of students. So the one from earlier mentioned how it barely took the teacher ten seconds to do what I can’t do in three hours. And you know what he responded?

“It didn’t take me ten seconds, it took me forty years.”

And you know, that stuck with me somehow. Because yeah. Drawing a hand didn’t take him fourth years. But learning and practicing to draw a hand in ten seconds did. And I think there’s something to learn there but it’s so warm and my brain is fried so I can’t formulate the actual morale of the lesson.
