Low poly forest scene for a course I am taking!!
This one wasn't too hard to figure out, though I think the composition could use some work. I had so much fun with all the reflective surfaces :D Being able to make puddles in the road was delightful. I think I will redo this one completely w/o help from the course material just to see if the lessons stuck. I'd also like to add some more variation to the trees. I also wonder if the background should be darker since it's more of a sunset scene?
But that's a project for another day!

Had a lot of fun with this tutorial, I learned a couple new techniques
LIGHTING!
Goodness gracious, it's crazy how much light can change a piece. This render used more point lights than I've seen others use (mostly they make use of area lights). You can definitely tell where they are positioned on the background plane... maybe moving the plane further back would help?
I'm off to watch some lighting videos [:

Editing this, it turns out that moving the plane was indeed the answer!

From cylinder to teapot!
This is actually the second teapot that I made today, the first one had some issues with topology around the spout and it was easier to start over and try again. I'm adding studying shape to my list, as understanding it better would make this process easier.

More tutorial work, this time making a little isometric bedroom!
I wonder if the lighting is a little too dark, I was hoping it would look like a night time scene but I'll have to fiddle with it some more.
So far I have found that I don't quite understand the subdivision surface modifier. Sometimes I get it right and sometimes I don't, I think I'll look up a tips and tricks video to see what I am missing.

I kept playing with the lighting after I posted the original photo and I am including the higher contrast one here as well. I do prefer it in filmic for those bright colors but I'm willing to try anything!
My only goal today was to model a little isometric beach scene [:

#blender#changed the direction of the sun light and i prefer the hard shadow position here#i also included two orange area lights

The monster
The model has been done for a while now, but I was struggling with the lighting for the entire street scene. Decided to take a break--which I have found always helps with roadblocks--and instead rendered this fella on its own.

#blender#july 2024#grant abbitt#i might start a different doodle while i take a break from this one#i think it's the fog effect that i'm struggling with getting right

The old man [:
Took a little bit of a break while a beloved friend came to visit, so when I sat down last night I wasn't sure if I would remember the steps. Luckily, I was able to model this little guy without any tutorials or guidance! Yippee!!
Now, it's time for the monster <3

Didn't touch blender for a couple weeks and came back to play around and see if i could remember the controls. Made a simple frame and a barrel without looking at my notes, which I will count as a success! No plans to render this as it was more like doodling in a sketchbook.
finished: 19JUN2024
#blender#june 2024#i'm going to be starting a new tutorial today and i'm curious to see how it goes! practice practice practice...

Hello and Welcome!
I am currently teaching myself how to use blender and want to use this blog as a place to track my progress, including journaling updates, wips, and fully rendered products.
All posts will be tagged with the month and year of when a product was worked on for archival purposes (ex: june 2024).
Any tutorials used with include links to the tutorials themselves as well as being tagged with the creator's username.
