PLASTIC CONCRETE FAÇADE
To integrate an Austrian museum extension with the existing building, a surprising combination of materials has been used.
Designed by local architects ukrowicz Nachbaur, the concrete façade has been decorated with a floral pattern, that’s made of plastic bottle ends. The museum is the Vorarlberg Museum, and is located in Bregenz (Austria).
The bottles were cast into concrete, leaving 4,5cm of the bottoms to poke out from the façade. Such PET bottles have been used in decoration more frequently, for instance in this colourful canopy.
Thirteen bottles were arranged to create the pattern on a basic template panel. The concrete would be constructed according to a 2x2m formwork frame, which informed the designer’s choices as to how the pattern could be repeated across the façade.
Casts were made of the plastic bottles by filling them with polyurethane. These were then attached to an MDF board and used as part of the formwork for the concrete, which was poured in 6m long panels. Pouring the concrete in very slowly ensures that very few bubbles are formed.
These panels are arranged in a semi-random pattern across the façade, like irregular dominoes. The effect is flowery, surprising and pleasing.
After this, the outside of the museum was sprayed with a hydrophobic coating. A finishing glaze completes the building.
Though it has very little to do with plants, the result is a neat way to liven up a concrete façade, adding a story to this museum’s construction at the same time.

Lost in...
Because I didn’t think much of you the first time I met you. Your initial striking features and charm did not sway me. I did not lust over your looks or fall for your quick wit. I didn’t even realize what was happening at the time, but my affections gradually grew with every revealed quirk and unguarded conversation.
Because my body responds to you in ways I never knew it could. I’ve longed to have a rush of excitement wash over me when I see another boy’s name on my phone, that embarrassing nervousness I get when I am expecting a date, or the moment of bliss when embracing after said date. As coveted as those feelings are, they only seem to surface for you.
Because I have never spent so much thought on something before, not even myself, and we both know how selfish I am. I have studied your mind in a futile attempt to figure you out more than I have ever studied for any exam. You are the epitome of my stubbornness and optimism– habitually checking my phone for a message from you when I wake and wondering how you are doing, what you made you laugh, or where your adventures had taken you that day before I go to bed.
Because there are symphonies and postcard destinations and children laughing and not having to set an alarm on the weekend and many other beautiful people and experiences in the world, but I seem to forget entirely of their existence when I miss you.
Because even though we are currently not in any sort of relationship, I consider how my decisions might affect you. Will pursuing my own desires bring you closer or push you farther away, permanently out of reach? (Is that worth the risk?) Will completing this goal impress you enough to make you want me back? You are the catalyst behind so many of my actions and I believe I need to seize the day everyday so I can become the best person I can be – the person you deserve.
Because I can recognize that all of this is meaningless, just text in a Word document. I feel like a 21 year-old kid, I have no authority to speak on love, yet I have convinced myself that you are indeed the person I love. You are real and flawed and still the most fascinating person I’ve ever met. I see my flaws when my hand misses yours in the car or during Mass. Life seems surreal when the less I look for you and try to let this go, the more my subconscious finds you.

How "LESS IS MORE" is so much more
Using google is not as easy as you think when requiring the "SPECIFICS"
Have you noticed how sometimes BEST results are achieved when LESS queries are entered into the search box?
Tumblr media
How would you search for an exact word or phrase?
I'll continue with the same quote of ' less is more'! If I want to look for specific graphics of this quote it's better if I put quotation marks  ["..."] between the "SPECIFIC" words.
It is then that you get "SPECIFIC" results
Tumblr media
How would you search for something on a specific site?
Let's say I'm looking for a specific website for " LESS IS MORE" Design firm and I want to get straight to the website. This is what I do:
Tumblr media
How would you correctly search for a definition?
Let's say I just arrived to Canada and I have no clue what this phrase of "LESS IS MORE" means and when can I use it or what it refers to.
This is how I would search for the definition of this phrase:
Tumblr media
How would you search for a specific product available within a specific price range?
Let's say I decide to buy a mug that says "less is more" on it within the price range of $20 to $50. I would easily just type in:
[Less is more mug $20..$50]
Tumblr media
Up until now I didn't know about these mugs. Now I searched into the specifics I think I really like to purchase one actually.
Tumblr media
How would you search for a specific filetype?
Let's say this is time I decide to delve down and really figure out what are the different sorts of papers written on this phrase of "less is more" and what is other people's interpretation. I would just casually type in:
[Less is more ext:pdf]
Tumblr media
Looking at some of these papers. There actually some very interesting journals on this very well known phrase. Some people have actually taken in to the next level by interpreting it from divers fields.
How would you include or ignore words in your search?
If I decide to play around with words and like include or ignore one of the words in this phrase I tend to get different results from each search.
I could search:
-less +is -more
+less -is +more
-less -is +more
& etc.
The plus[+] sign refers to when I want to [include] a word/phrase in my search and the negative [-] sign refers to when google can easily ignore a word/phrase from my search
How would you find related pages?
This is when I really just want to take my search to a WHOLE new level and figure out all the possible ways of interpreting the phrase "less is more" SO I look into the related pages by typing in :
[Related: less is more ]
Tumblr media
How would you find a topic, searching all available synonyms of a word?
Simply to find synonyms for this phrase I'd just have to add [~] to the beginning of the phrase and google just brings out the SPECIFICS
Tumblr media
How would you find the time in another country?
I would simply just type in :
Time: [Country name ]
For instance right now time in Toronto, Canada is :
Tumblr media
This feature I really wasn't aware of until today. I would usually just type in timezone and look for the specific city myself on a huge list of city names.
How would you find out how many Egyptian pounds you get for $20 Canadian dollars?
Currency:20 CAD to egyptian pound

It’s What We Do
An illustration I did a while back for the May issue of Canadian Running. An all the more timely assignment as the article was about how we can’t let tragedy stop us from doing the things we love; specifically in this article, the loss of a friend in his running group.
