Ukkomon: I guess so…

Daisuke learns how Rui-kun trespassed the Tokyo Tower security back in Feb 28 2012.

Daisuke: [scratches the back of his head] Thanks for inviting me to your place, Rui! It had been a while, isn't it, bud? Rui: Welcome, feel free to ask me anything you want. [Rui and Ukkomon bows and gestures to the small apartment interior] Daisuke: You don't need to treat me like that… (It makes me feel too important… like a celebrity 💦) [waves his right hand, awkwardly] Rui: Excuse me, I will prepare something for you two. Ukkomon: I'll help, Rui! [Daisuke smiles at Rui] V-mon: Hey, Daisuke… What is this thing? Daisuke: ? [turns to V-mon and to look at what the digimon is showing to him] Rui: [looking at the fridge, upset] Sigh… I should've brought snacks from the cafe… Rui: I can't offer sugar-free stuff to Daisuke-kun… And V-mon likes sweets so-- Daisuke: Hey, Rui!! Rui: ? [turns to Daisuke] Daisuke: Have you ever worked as electrician or something else? [Daisuke points to the electrician pouch V-mon found on the couch] ~Silence~ Rui: !! [silently gulps] Rui: Uh… [Rui gets flashbacks on the time he used a dumb disguise as electrician to sneak into the Tokyo Tower restrict area.]

it's incredible how no one ever asked how Rui climbed the Tokyo Tower so far… like not even a comic about it exists…

Y'know, i'm starting to doubt if Rui REALLY liked his hair cut and neat, less spikyish. We probably know Rui's haircuts through the movie are a visual reference to the child abuse he suffered, and when his hair his cut and neat he had a normal decent life.

And he went all spiky haired in his adulthood, which could mean things weren't good for him (well, it wasn't!) -- Except... Note that his hair is still short and "tamed" unlike baby Rui had in 1996, before Ukkomon appeared and saved his life.

But at the end of the movie we learned that Rui and Ukko weren't even talking to each other -- none of them knew what the other actually liked and disliked, and Rui never had a chance to tell that possibly because of his mom's abuse.

Rui: I always wondered why you never really seemed to understand my feelings at all.

Ukkomon: But I do know exactly what things you like! Ukkomon: Hamburg steak, cake, and baseball! Rui: [chuckles] Actually, I always hated all of that stuff.

And we are well aware that Ukkomon was taking everything literally too, possibly using other people as example on how to help Rui be raised accurately... If you notice, adult Rui has more freedom to be himself and to like and dislike things without being punished for rejecting or disliking stuff.

Therefore, when you look up at the movie's collabs and artworks, except for a few, you will notice that Rui's fashion style is completely different from the child Rui.

Which means... There's a few chances that he didn't like that either, so I suppose Rui may like his hair spiky-ish and the emo bang... Well, who knows...?

All we know is that in Beyond he's still wearing black outfits...

Takeru and Shuu were investigating the strange phenomena happening around, when suddenly a Manticoremon attacked them. The beast was blocked by Angemon and Shuu’s partner, Kiwimon.

“Takeru, Shuu” -- Angemon used his rod to repel Manticore’s tails coming into the group’s direction -- “Leave now and call Iori. We will hold them here!”

“Understood,” Takeru nodded and then he and Shuu tried to leave, only to be surprised by another Manticoremon.

This one was handled by Kiwimon, who reinforced Angemon’s plea -- “Go, we will be fine!!”

“Alright…!” Shuu replied, and then once again Takeru and Shuu tried to escape.

With success, the two men managed to leave the area and reach the closest Digital Gate they could find. When they were ready to send an S.O.S to Iori…

… Some trees fell on the horizon, calling their attention.

“What was that?” Shuu asked, “I hope Angemon and Kiwimon are okay…” he frowned, but Shuu had faith in their digimon anyway…!

“I will open the gate,” Takeru said with a nod, and then grabbed his smartphone D-3. He started to type a message to send with the S.O.S. but…

Something… Something weird happened. The message and S.O.S. were sent (at least), but the phone’s radar had caught a signal of a digimon coming into their direction. They were all alone though…! All they had left was using the gate to leave.

Except a new enemy digimon appeared -- A beast digimon that was possibly more likely to be based on a Wolpertinger creature from German folklore, Lamortmon. The beast attacked them, forcing both Takeru and Shuu to dodge by ducking to the ground.

Lamortmon unfortunately destroyed the old-school TV, and thus Takeru and Shuu were stuck in that area now. There may be a gate in the next area… If they manage to escape from that digimon.

The wolpertinger-esque digimon roared and then came into their direction.

Until…

They heard the sound of someone snapping their fingers, and a small digimon standing in front of them. The small digimon obviously cannot beat a stronger and powerful digimon like Lamortmon, BUT this little guy’s abilities weren’t supposed to be for that intent.

The small critter’s eyes met Lamortmon’s and suddenly… Lamortmon did not attack them anymore. When Takeru and Shuu realized that, another man, shorter than the other two, stepped in.

“Are you ok, Takaishi-kun?”

Takeru recognized that person. And that digimon then…

“Perfect timing… Rui-kun.”

Shuu looked at Takeru, then to Rui, “Do you know each other?”

“Yeah,” Takeru smiled, “Rui-kun is an old friend of ours. I didn’t expect for this, but…”

“I’m thankful for his help,” then Takeru and Shuu got up. 

Ukkomon did not look away and kept controlling Lamortmon’s mind. Without turning his face, he asked Rui: “What should we do with them?”

“They won’t attack until you cancel that technique,” Rui mused, “And we are investigating those sudden rampages… Hmm…”

“Are you… an inspector by any chance?” Shuu asked, politely.

“Rui-kun is a private detective though,” Takeru explained, “If he is here, then…”

“There is something bugging me, indeed” -- Rui replied, nonchalantly -- “Daisuke-kun also requested my assistance, so we came here to talk with the Digital World’s Agents.”

“Oh, right… I forgot that Ukkomon is linked to something bigger…”

“Something bigger…?” Shuu blinked,

“That’s not the right hour to talk about it,” Rui sighed then he noticed Angemon and Kiwimon coming into their direction with the Manticoremon duo chasing them, “I’m not a good fighter, but Ukkomon can pull some strings.”

He then gestured with his hand to the Manticoremon duo, “Lamortmon, make those Manticoremon retreat and leave Angemon and Kiwimon alone.”

Lamortmon nodded and then obeyed Rui’s commands. That quite terrified Shuu, not expecting that a little digimon like Ukkomon had a strong ability like that. But Ukkomon being a special digimon makes sense though.

Rui didn’t like to be in the spotlight, therefore he didn’t take part of digimon battles like this, but there were special times he had to take advantage at Ukkomon’s ability to get the job done. He’s more likely a spy agent-type than a police detective like Ken.

(Yet, there’s times that Ken and Rui would help each other in some cases…!!)

It took a while but Lamortmon managed to scare off the Manticoremon duo and then turn to Rui, waiting for new orders.

Knowing they had more stuff to do there, Takeru and Shu walk away with their digimon -- now in child form, Patamon is carried by Pteromon. They had to be quick, in case other digimon try to attack them there, and take the chance to leave the area while Rui and Ukkomon have Lamortmon under their control.

“Once again,” -- Takeru looks back, smiling --  “thanks for the help, Rui-kun.”

Rui just smiled back and nodded at Takeru and Shuu. Then, the two older men left the area.

when you're delulu on your ship and you realize that the scene Rui-kun grabs Daisuke's hand everyone but Daisuke disappears from Rui's POV.

Then, after you get Daisuke's POV, you go back to Rui's POV and suddenly Takeru & Hikari are back to the picture.

Rui really had only eyes for Daisuke here lol

Well, someone had asked this, and possibly more people in the future could come to ask me this question, so i'm putting this here in advance so i can just link it if i get more...

Isn't Rootmon supposed to be a Matrix Evolution/Biomerge digimon?

The answer is... No, it's not. I say it's a Jogress because answer is simple.

I didn't want to use non-Adventure universe terms in an Adventure universe setting.

You see, this whole form is kinda a digimon-ish version of the Kamen Rider AU's Rui-kun, which is Kamen Rider Root in that universe. But this fanmade digimon is from the Advverse, and i don't REALLY like to apply non-Advverse terms.

Because none of those characters would know the difference between this and that and would just be like "This is the same thing, isn't it!!"

Besides, the method this form is achieved does not match with Tamer's method imo. It would be more close to... Savers' BioEvolution or even XrosWars' Digixros. But...

Explaining it could spoil the thing i've been writing since late November 2024...

And no, i'm not trying to re-invent a mechanic or pretending that i'm making a brand new one. I just wanted to not use terms from anything else in an Advverse setting.

I decided to make a new version of my assumptions of Rui's scene in the Beyond special music PV… Now it's cooler imo!

I wonder if he is also a detective and investigating something…? I wonder what his role is in the story…

Rui: [gives a serious gaze at the 02 group] I've decided that... I will climb the Tokyo Tower again. V-mon: You what-- Ken: [deadpan] They increased the security. Rui: ... Daisuke: I can't tell if you're warning him or challenging him. Takeru: [Grinning] Rui-kun, You should expand your horizons, you could go higher and climb the Tokyo Skytree instead! Daisuke: And again I have no idea if you guys are joking or enabling him. Rui: I'm joking, I won't do that. Daisuke: Phew... Rui: Unless... Daisuke: ................... [Hikari, Iori and Miyako plus the rest of the mons were just shaking their head, disappointedly.] Lesson of the day: Ohwada Rui can and would climb the Tokyo Tower if he wanted.  He's a little punk idiot after all.
