❝ OH PLEASE , anita — it already is beautiful , even without the little fix . ❞ sure , it would fit her slightly better once anita fixed the shoulder strap like magic , but maria truly believe the dress was a work of art as is . then again , it wouldn’t be the first time she hyped up the other girl’s skills ; if anything , she was anita’s biggest fan ! as she moved slowly in front of the mirror , hands gently holding the skirt of what would soon be her newest dress , the brunette’s eyes widened upon the revelation of her birthday gift . ❝ wait , this one is for me ?! ❞ the girl exclaimed , quickly turning on her heel . ❝ you didn’t have to bother making me a new dress , having you is a present on its own ! you spoil me , ❞ she giggle . ❝ this is so beautiful … ❞ with blushing cheeks , maria looked down at the skirt of her dress , ❝ it would be perfect for a special occasion , right ? ❞
she stood there, smug expression still gracing her features — anita knew it was beautiful, but it was always nice to hear it from someone else. it gave her hope that maybe, someday, she could make a career out of it — instead of working under someone else, and making whatever they ordered her to make. she wanted more than anything to make her own designs and sell them to complete strangers. but that was only in her dreams — for now, making dresses for maría and herself was enough. “ maría, por favor. i know i’m a gift, but you still deserve a proper birthday present. ” it was late, sure, but from the looks of it, the dress made up for it. “ that sounds like you already have something in mind. ” she didn’t press any further, but the question was implied in the look she shot maría.

even if she feels a bit silly, the hug had a soothing effect and she catches herself longing for more contact. as usual, she was in a different lane of everything her mother taught her. the girl sighs silently and brings one hand to rub her arm, as if to feel a little warmth, to pretend she’s still being hugged, while absent-mindedly using her other hand to caress the leaves of her new plant. “ oh, i know how it feels. what else is new, right? ” she laughs dryly, feeling the waves of exhaustion as she speaks. “ i’m good— working a lot. a lot, a lot. ” once more she rubs her eyes and jumps up the chair quickly, before she falls asleep sitting down – for what she wish she could say it’d be the first time, except it would be a lie. “ actually, right now, i’m craving some coffee. would you like to come with me, nita? we can have pie too! ”
anita laughs along, but watches her friend carefully. it becomes clear to her that meg isn’t just tired, she’s exhausted. anita mentally cursed herself for not noticing sooner — still, she wouldn’t say anything about it. she could be outspoken and upfront, but she had learned that a blunt ‘ you look exhausted ’ wasn’t usually well received. “ you need rest, too, mija, ” she says, opting for the softer version. “ don’t overwork yourself. ” she adds — a piece of advice she could follow herself. anita spent most of her time at the shop, and when she wasn’t working there, she was could usually be found sitting at her sewing machine at home, making pieces for herself and for her friends. “ i never say no to coffee or pie, you know me. ”

LOVE WAS A SCARY thing to think about, it had scorned her plenty in the past, it’s just that when she met joanne she thought things could be different. the woman was the first person that maureen opened up to, entirely, she knew her demons and her fears and that was something that made her fall for the girl even more. that’s why whenever joanne left, it broke her heart in a way she didn’t know was possible, and she wasn’t even sure if the woman before her was aware of that impact. hearing her speak though, it made her gaze move up to the ceiling to hide the small amount of hurt that flashed in her eyes, “it was sarcasm, obviously this isn’t exactly the best circumstance.” maureen muttered, but she was quick to roll her shoulders back, gathering herself as she pursed her lips together as she nodded at joanne. “right, sounds about on the course. i’ve been here for six months now, working for a record company in the city to help young and unique artists on the rise.” she explained, although she released that joanne didn’t ask why she was here, she probably didn’t care anyways so the raven haired beauty rubbed her hands together out of nerves…only joanne could bring these nerves up, and it made her almost sick to remember that.
being here, standing in front of maureen — it made joanne question why she even left her in the first place. she could fall for maureen again so easily it terrified her. she was so unlike anyone she had ever met. maureen was everything joanne wasn’t, she had all the bravery and spunk joanne could only dream of having. she was always in awe of her. sure, sometimes it could drive her crazy. most of the time, however, joanne admired maureen. “ that sounds great, ” she said earnestly. she truly wanted the best for maureen. it also helped soften her guilt — maureen was doing well without her. her world didn’t fall apart when joanne left. at least that’s what she wanted to believe. maureen had been the first person that made joanne feel truly loved — something she wasn’t sure she would ever experience. it had its pros and cons. the cons — whenever she saw maureen flirting with someone else — hurt like hell. “ i’m glad you’re doing well. ” two little words had been boiling in joanne’s stomach. two words she’d been wanting to say from the moment she ended things with maureen, but had never had the courage to do so. she didn’t have the courage to face maureen back then — she ran off to europe. it was only when she was forced to look her ex-fiancée in the eyes once more that she realized she couldn’t avoid them any longer. “ maureen — i’m sorry. ” she hoped maureen knew she was being sincere — but she couldn’t blame her if she didn’t.

when the other mentioned that being a professional mermaid is not the job for them, the girl pouted. it was a shame, ariel could really use hanging out with some other mermaids. then, she waved a dismissive hand. ❛ i guess you could only do water jobs and put on a show in the mermaid tank. but no pressure ! ❜ she giggled. ❛ oh my god, you really think so ? that’s very sweet of you ! it’s lovely to meet you. ❜
bobbie chuckled in response — again, infectious. “ it sounds like a lot of fun, especially compared to representing people in their divorce, but not for me. ” they really couldn’t picture themselves doing anything but being a lawyer, despite hating the job sometimes. “ yeah, no question. i didn’t even know this was a job. i’ll definitely be coming around here more often. ”

❛ i like that bra too much, i just couldn’t throw it away. it’s … not in the best condition, though. luckily for me, i was alone in the dance studio when i ripped it. i’ll be forever grateful if you could fix it, although it looks a little hopeless, if you ask me, ❜ elise confessed. ❛ i have it at home, i can come to your place later if you want and i’ll bring it with me. ❜
“ i understand completely, ” she said with a knowing smile. anita was the kind of person who would hold on to clothes until they were ruined way beyond repair, refusing to get rid of something she believed could still be fixed. “ i’m sure there’s still hope, ” she said confidently. “ worst case scenario, i can try to make you another. bring it by my place or the shop, whatever works. ”

“ good decision, they’re the worst. like a whole breed of idiots walking the face of the earth. ” tilly threw a sort of hybrid of a smirk and grin to the person beside her, before taking a long sip of the drink she’d managed to get herself. currently she was just a tad irritated by life and by the way things were panning out for her, she didn’t really think men were the worst. “ i mean, i got a drink and you got a compliment. it could be going worse. ” a soft shrug of her shoulders followed. “ i’m tilly, by the way. not just his balls. ”
a warm chuckle escaped joanne’s lips at the woman’s words. “ so i’ve been told.” joanne was grateful she wasn’t even the tiniest bit interested in men — really dodged a bullet there. “ fair point. i wasn’t expecting to get hit on tonight, much less by a dude, but i guess life’s full of surprises. ” joanne’s plans were to have one, maybe two drinks and head back home. “ it’s nice to meet you, tilly. i’m joanne. ”

EVELYN NODDED SLOWLY when bobbie claimed she was special and interesting. she could not suppress a smile which was clearly fueled by awkwardness. “ i’m not all that special – trust me. “, she mumbled, wanting to crush those expectations straight away. the last thing she wanted was to be a disappointment to another person. “ oh – you’re a boxer, then ? “, evie wondered, lifting a brow. “ just a coffee. black. “, the brunette explained, pushing a lock behind her ear.
bobbie didn’t know evelyn well — still, they didn’t buy her protests. “ agree to disagree, then, ” they said with a smile. “ oh no, not at all. ” a breathy chuckle escaped with their words. while bobbie enjoyed watching sports, they weren’t very athletic. they played baseball in high school, but that was the end of their career in sports. “ my dad was a fan, though. too me to see trinidad v. hopkins at the garden when i was a kid, ” they explained, before addressing the barista. “ make that two, ” they said, handing over their card.

“Hmm?” Cady almost didn’t hear the person behind her, taking out an ear bud as she waited for them to repeat the question. She was on her way to work and was honestly running a little late. “Oh? Jeeze, let me check…” Taking her phone from her back pocket, Cady smiled as the date popped up on her screen. Of course, how did she know know right away? She pocketed her phone once more, turning to the person with a small yet knowing smile…
“It’s October 3rd.”
it had been a crazy couple of days for joanne. she was finally settled into her apartment, but things were picking up speed at work. this sometimes made her forget that there was a world beyond her own work, a world outside of london. “ are you sure ? ” she asked, completely seriously, as if this girl had any reason to lie to her about the date. “ shoot, i was supposed to call my mom, i’m never gonna hear the end of it now, ” she muttered, reaching for her own phone before sighing and giving up. “ it’s probably way too early for her anyway. timezones, right ? ”

looks like hadley’s walking down the street, exept … every few steps, he’s taking a coin from atop a small pile of change in his hand and placing it on the sidewalk. in his other hand, he’s holding a small journal and pen, which he occasionally pauses to scribble furiously in before setting more coins on the sidewalk and continuing the cycle. it’s hard to tell how many coins he has in his hand or if he plans on stopping soon, until … he drops all of them while trying to pick up the journal. he stares down at the mess he’s made on the sidewalk by dropping all of the coins, eyes closed tight in embarrassment. “does anyone want to … help me. …pick these up?…”
joanne wasn’t exactly following the man — she wouldn’t go out of her way to stalk some guy dropping coins on the sidewalk — no, she was going in that direction anyway. she is suspicious of him, so she keeps her eyes on him the entire time. who does that, even ? what was he writing down ? white people are weird. he seems harmless, but she doesn’t trust him, which is why she doesn’t bend down to help him right away. “ you’re a strange little dude ... what exactly is all ... this ? ” she asks, making vague hand gestures at the mess.

Donna was a one woman show, even though she had a plethora of help. She was bad at asking for it, which often times got her into bad situations when it came to the inn. She had given Sophie the night off, however now she was swamped. Still, Donna would make it work. She always did. Hearing a ding from the bell in the front lobby, Donna put down what she was working on and rushed to the front. “Sorry for the wait,” she breathed out, running her fingers through her hair. “What can I do for you?”
anita hated asking for help. she was the oldest of four — she learned how to do things for herself from a very young age. she did everything in her power to never depend on anyone. and yet — when the shop is closed, her phone dies, and it’s too late to catch a bus home, she stumbles into the villa donna. “ oh, don’t worry about it, ” anita said with a dismissive wave of her hand — she shouldn’t even be bothering the nice woman with her problems. “ do you have an iphone charger i could use ? i just need to charge it a bit so i can call an uber. ”

moritz loved a drink, but when it came to a house party ? well, he wasn’t quite so certain. maybe that was why he’d managed to get himself a fair few drinks down in a short space of time. the boys artistic fingertips ran along the countertop for a moment as he examined his surroundings. however, when he met the gaze of someone he knew, he sighed ( somewhat dramatically thanks to his alcohol intake ) and bolted over. “ hey, ” he slurred, taking their face in his hands, “ what’re you doing here ? you look pretty. ”
@musicalstarters
anita wasn’t sure whose house she was in ( something about a cousin of a friend of a friend ), but she was going to make the most of it. rummaging through the cabinets for something just a little more sophisticated than cheap beer ( there was always something better in the kitchen ), the boy’s sigh startled her. “ jesus christ, ” she whispered, “ i thought i was busted ”. anita wasn’t expecting this practical stranger to hold her face, but it just made her laugh. “ i think you’re confusing me with someone else, but i’ll take the compliment. ”
