The last among the nine forms of Maa Shakti is Goddess Siddhidatri who is worshiped on the ninth or final day of Navratri.
‘Siddhi’ is a Sanskrit term which means ‘perfection’.
Goddess Siddhidatri has four arms. She holds a Chakra in her right lower hand and a mace in the upper. In the left lower hand there is a conch and in her upper left hand a lotus flower. She is seated on a lotus flower with the lion as her mount.
The eighth day of Navratri or Durga Ashtami is dedicated to Goddess Mahagauri, who is the eighth Avatar of nine goddesses. Goddess Mahagauri has other names also which are Shwetambardhara (dressed in white clothes), Vrisharudha (rides the bull), Chaturbhuji (have four hands) and Shambhavi.
The name, Mahagauri is derived from ‘Maha’ means ‘great,’ and ‘Gauri’ means ‘complexion.’ It is believed that the planet Rahu is governed by Goddess Parvati.
The 7th day of Navaratri is dedicated to Maa Kalratri, the 7th Avtar of Maa Durga. Here, Kaal means time and death and Kaalratri means the One who is the Death of Kaal. Maa Kalratri destroys ignorance and brings light into the dark. Well, this form also depicts the dark side – the super power that creates havoc and removes all things bad and dirty. But to Her devotees, She brings calmness and courage.
Goddess Katyayani is worshipped on the 6th day of Navratri. Devi Katyayani is the sixth manifestation among Navdurga. Mata Katyayani is known as the Warrior Goddess among nine Goddess.
Devi Katyayani has ended the torments of devils and demons with her divine power. It is believed that the planet Brihaspati is governed by Goddess Katyayani.
Goddess Skandamata mounts on the ferocious lion. She carries baby Murugan in her lap. Lord Murugan is also known as Kartikeya and brother of Lord Ganesha. Goddess Skandamata is depicted with four hands. She carries lotus flowers in her upper two hands. She holds baby Murugan in one of her right hand and keeps the other right hand in Abhaya Mudra. She sits on lotus flower and because of that Skandamata is also known as Goddess Padmasana.
Goddess Kushmanda is the 4th form of Maa Durga revered on the 4th day of Navratri. She is said to have created the universe with her radiant smile. Ku refers to “a little” and Ushma refers to “energy or warmth” and Anda refers to “cosmic egg”. She has the power to live inside the sun, to empower the sun to radiate energy and effulgence to the universe
Today is the third day of Navratri and devotees worship Goddess Chandraghanta. She is also known as Chandrakhanda, Chandika or Ramchandi. Goddess name resembles crescent moon which is worn by her on the head. It is said that Goddess Chandraghanta is totally different from that of Goddess Durga, who shows her angry side when provoked. Devotees believe that this Goddess blesses them with a lot of courage and bravery
On the second day of Navaratri, Maa Brahmacharini – a manifestation of Maa Durga – is worshipped. The form of Goddess Brahmacharini is extremely radiant and majestic. Maa signifies love and loyalty, wisdom and knowledge. She holds a rosary in her hight hand and a Kamandal in her left hand. She wears Rudraksha. The word “Brahm” refers to Tapa (penance) – Her name means “one who performs Tapa (penance)”
The first form of Maa Durga is Shailputri, who was born to the King of Mountains. In Sanskrit, Shail means the mountain and ‘putri’ means daughter.
