report: finished in the flesh. this is the most artful, most heartwrenching, most gutting exploration of trauma, grief, marginalisation, religion, and the saving power of love I have personally ever seen onscreen. this show is everything. TV shows have exhausted me recently (everything’s bigger, and everything’s bad to scale,) but i am reminded once more of why I actually love the medium. long-form storytelling with real psychological depth and cutting, revelatory social commentary. if you haven’t watched it yet literally it will change you on fundamental levels and you will experience emotions the likes of which not even shrimp have dreamed

randomly thinking about In the Flesh this morning, and how almost all the characters are motivated by love in some way. even the season villains' actions are all motivated by grief and loss so that, however reprehensible, they're still understandable. and then there's Gary.

ah yes, in the flesh is always useful for a good cry.

but i will never literally ever never ever forgive them for canceling it after s2. we're just supposed to accept this?? just move on with our lives without wondering if Amy comes back? who the undead prophet is? what the fuck those suits' deal is? how Simon the Traitor copes when it turns out Kieren is coming back to life but he isn't? god-can't-love-you-any-more-or-less-than-he-already-does Simon? i-killed-my-mother-and-the-only-photo-i-own-is-of-me-and-her-together Simon? one-look-from-bambi-over-there-and-i-abandon-my-faith-and-my-redemption Simon? and without watching Jem recover and face all the goddamn trauma she's been through? without Steve and Sue ever acknowledging the part they played in letting both their children destroy themselves bc they just didn't notice? without Shirley getting a goddamn trophy for being the best person ever? without seeing Philip's face when Amy comes back and she IS coming back fuck you where is my season 3!?!

spoiled rotten by in the flesh giving me zombie protagonist boy with such a good kind heart he mostly just doesn't want to harm anyone anymore + angsty zombie cult leader gay love interest who throws aside everything he's ever believed in because of LOVE!!!! no one's doing it like them :(

In the flesh still feels particularly poignant and important to today's society. Its themes of homophobia, discrimination, mental illness, religious extremism, and bigotry are still heartbreaking and rewarding in so many ways. It's just still such a good show.

Day 6 of #9DaysOfITFArt

I’m so glad I had to draw Jem, since she’s one of my favorite character due to her strength and for being Kieren’s sister. I hope that if the series continued, they would give us more of this strong female characters.

Because I think the world needs more of Jemima Walker and Harriet Cains. Just sayin’.

9 Days of ITF Art - Day 2

And here we are with my favourite character in the show! I love Simon Monroe because of everything he had gone through before his death, as if he was living as a character of Bret Easton Ellis’s Less Than Zero, living his life on the edge and eventually falling apart.

I think that we still need to know more about Simon and that’s why I want this series to continue!

Day 5 of #9DaysOfITFArt with Philip Wilson!

Alright, today I’ll be very brief since it’s late and I really need to sleeeeep… So, I didn’t like Philip at first, but then I started to like him more and more and I eventually fell in love with him and his clumsiness. And don’t you dare think that I I didn’t cry at the funeral when he didn’t know whether to put the muffed tiger on Amy’s coffin.

(By the way, I did cry. A lot. Shamelessly.)

So, that’s all. I suppose.

Day 4 of #9DaysOfITFArt

Well well well, here we are, Rick Macy!

I didn’t like his relationship (or what that was) with Kieren, since everything he did was toxic to our doe eyes zombie due to his fear of fighting his father’s opinion. I’m not saying that he didn’t love Kieren, I’m just saying that he didn’t love him the same way Kieren did.

But in the end he tried to tell his father that everything was okay, that he was okay, and doing that he tried to protect Kieren. In some way.
