Use the reflection entry to share your own personal State of the Semester. Most of you are first semester students at FSC. In what areas have you thrived, enjoyed, done well? In what areas are you struggling? What could FSC do to make your first semester/first year better? What could I do to help you navigate this first semester?

- Well so far fall semester was me learning how everything works in college. Learning where my classes are, learning which way is the fastest way to class, learning the different places to eat and their menu’s and also getting to met new people and get engaged. I got a taste of which ways to study for a test. Learned how to fail and get better at something. Learning to not give up when i don’t understand something because their is a never end source of help at fsc. I honest love fsc and the way things operate. My only concern and dislike is the lack of varies of food. I stay on campus and right now i don’t have my own vehicle so i rely on campus food. I’m not going to lie i love the food but i wish there was more to choose from! Difference flavors and different cultures.I wish there was CFA on campus or a chinese food truck or something. Eating the same breakfast every morning makes me not even want to eat but overall everything academically is great and i wish to continue to do well in my classes.

Well these past few weeks in class been good. I think that class is going well so far. I don’t really like the peer reviews sometimes but most of the time they are helpful. Honestly i think discussing our work in a group will help everyone be able to hear others opinions. I think the assignment tab helps a lot but sometimes i do miss some of the information because assignments are added after class ends. Overall i think that the assignment tab made things easier to understand. I think that sometimes we should do more exciting assignments that really gets everyone interested in the topic. I don’t know exactly what we could do but i think making everyone more comfortable would make the class discussions more intriguing.

the past few weeks been eye opening. The things that I’ve been learning in class are teaching me to view things differently. I realize that i actually want to be a difference in this world. I want people to see that this world is filled with racism. We are currently learning about how comedy can have an impact on race. Watching the NSL videos were uncomfortable because in my point of view, i feel they were trying too hard. I hate when non color people see us colored people as violent or dangerous. They treat us like we shouldn’t belong here and if they had the power they would erase us. Although i loved the key and peele videos because it just something that i relate to and it very true.

Have you ever heard of the term "intersectionality"? What might be useful about this concept in helping you understand the topics we're discussing in this class? How might it help you understand the complexity of racism? Do you have any reservations about this concept? Does it seem confusing to you?

- No I’ve never heard of that term until taking this class. I wasn’t aware of how it effects each and everyone of us. White or colored. The way that intersectionality was used in the book “so you want to talk about race” i found it very fascinating. She really goes into details about what it is and ways that it works. Yes I’m still a little bit confused on the whole term but as i listen in class i hope to understand it more in depth.

Hey it’s me Neissa! I’m very excited to start this semester because as a freshman i want to meet new people and very excited to join all the different clubs that fsc offers. I also love the independence i have staying on my own and having to be organized and make plans. I’m a very outgoing person! I love going out and just having a good time. I enjoy watching Netflix, right now I’m watching Arrow, it’s a very intriguing show. I’m very big on posting pictures and being active on instagram. In this course as an African American i want to learn more about being vocal about my race. Also being able to address situations that occur on a daily basis.
